ROR absolutely kills the Wild. I think they wanted to get him out of the West. When they meet the Leafs in the Stanley Cup final it will backfire on them. - Minnyhock
Love the way you think. Yes Minnesota vs Toronto in the finals. Book it!! 😇 |

Leaf fans PLEASE let's put this trade into proper perspective. This isn't the Raptor situation in 2019 where they NEEDED to acquire a pure superstar. We have our top stars already.
I look at the Leafs in 2023 similar to the Islanders of 1979.
Islanders coming off back to back playoff dissapointments despite having the stars in Trottier, Bossy, Potvin & Smith in net. They obviously lacked a key piece to the puzzle. So they finally found it in a 1979 trade deadline deal for the Kings Butch Goring. He was the ideal support player/catalyst for their top stars. The Isles as we know went on to Cup successes.
Do not think of O'Reilly as a Kuwaii Leonard but more of a Butch Goring. O'Reilly isn't coming to TO to be our superatar. He's coming to be the perfect support player for our top stars as Goring was for the Isles. Obviously the last 6 playoff Leaf failures, a big reason was the lack of the right support players to our top stars. I believed several months back that O'Reilly if healthy & playing his game could be the " perfect" support player for the Leafs. If your going to battle the gritty players on TB & Bos you need gritty players like O'Reilly. So the Leafs are now solid on the forward lines. Now my only questions are in goal & on defense. I don't think it's bad idea to acquire a cheap backup goalie making under $1 mill. Lots of times have done the "three" goalie thing. It's good insurance in case Murray remains unhealthy. But the defense is the biggest question mark. Not enamoured with this core as a unit. - GCHonda
Excellent take.
I see this as a triple win situation. Leafs get the players(s) that could be the missing piece to put them ahead of their competition. Blues get lots of draft capital and a prospect. Wild get a pick for cash. How is that bad for any team, given what they're each looking for? |

I'll be there among about 13,000 Leaf fans and 6,000 Sabre fans. These games are always wild. |

How could you possibly determine a trade winner before any of the players have even played a game or before the draft picks are made? |
