A great debate, who do folks think have a better roster, Vancouver or the Flyers?
- ClaudeFather

Lol, are you being serious? What's there to debate about??

Many Blues fans think the team will resign ROR to a team friendly contract in the summer.
- Minnyhock

Lot of Flyers fans thought Claude Giroux would do the same.

Leafs don't have to sign Nylander. Matthews may get an extra million or so? Plus cap goes up. Honestly, people said years ago when they all signed the team would be in cap hell and they'd never amount to anything because of it.

yet here they are. Making good trades and being a top 5 team in the league on a consistent basis.

If only it translated to playoff success

Aaron,

I think the Leafs got fair value in the trade. However, with their goaltending issues and injuries, plus their defense being average, it might be tough come second round. I don’t see Tampa as strong this as in previous years, but I can’t see the Leafs beating Boston. Time will tell, as injuries, etc always add uncertainty.

As far as you saying Willie and Auston only getting an extra million or two, I disagree. Cap will go up, and those players will command hefty raises of three to five mil more.

As of this moment, the Leafs improved. How much will be determined in April. They still need reliable goal tending and a stronger back end of they want to finally capture the Cup

Matthews wants out of Canada. He won't resign. Why should he when he can get max money to play somewhere in the US with max money in a no income tax state? He'll take home millions more over the life of his next contract. Of course, he'd NEVER say this publicly while in TO, but it makes perfect sense for him to leave.

Cap should go up 4-5M when they have to re-sign Nylander and Matthews. What's the story with Muzzin? Is he done?
- MJL

Muzzin sees his specialist next week I believe.

I think he's done. His injury is super dangerous and has been fatal in the past. There was also an older quote from him that after his concussion last year he thought about his life after hockey so I randomly guess he's doing the same thing again.

This gets touted a lot about the leafs. D and G aren't good. Except Samsonov is like a top 10 goalie this year. GGA is 6th in the league (with 10+games played) and his SV% is .918 which again is like 11th. Murray is something else but when he has been healthy his numbers have been steady. Without trading for Vasi or a Hellebyuck it's as good as it'll be.

Team is 5th in goals against so the defense isn't a slouch either. If it had maybe one more defensive minded player it would be better but it's a pretty solid D at this time.

With the trades the team defense got better. Again health is a question mark but that's for any team and any player. Especially a vet.

Leafs COULD beat Boston but it very well could be Bostons year.

Want to put money on it since you seem so certain? $20 for a season ticket holder. I'll buy you one if they lose first round and if they goto round 2 I pick the person it goes to.

I like Canucks younger players but neither team is amazing. The pieces as a collective don't work in Vancouver. Time to move on.

All I can say is Hey Fletcher! That is how you maximize your assets and kick off a rebuild! The Blues are the easy winner in this trade getting a 2023 1st round pick.

Why would he want to play in the US? He could move to a market where Hockey ranks just behind college bowling? Lol…….or he can stay in a market that hockey is 2nd to none…get more then enough endorsement deals to easily off set any tax issues…maybe He has his eyes elsewhere, but $ wouldn’t be the issue.

Exactly, Minnesota could win this trade. They traded a former 4th rounder and $74,000 in cash to get a future 4th rounder. That 4th rounder could turn out to be another Kaprizov.

The bottom pair should scare any leaf fan. I agree on your goaltending…if both guys are healthy. Adding O’reilly and Acciari helped address the physicality issue they have…I like that Dubas is addressing the issue. I still think they should add a top vet d man that can eat minutes…give them that and they have a fighting chance versus ant team in the NHL.

Yeah they could still make another trade but what player is available that "eats minutes" in a top 4 role?

I'm not overly concerned about the 3rd pairing.
