Wonder if one of the “bad contracts” next year to get to the floor would be signing Toews to a one year $ 5 mil. Contract even if he doesn’t suit up for another game?

How is this for a scenario?

Kane walks in to Davidson's office and tells him that he loves the organization and wants the rebuild to succeed ASAP. So Kane says trade me to any interested contending team that offers the best return, but guarantee to sign me in the off season. Kane says he would be willing to sign, in his eyes, a relatively team friendly deal - 3 or 4 years at 7M.

I would love that, but that rarely happens 🤞

It'd be fun to see Bedard and Kane on the same line.

Toews is an honorable guy. I think he does not sign anywhere until he is pretty sure he can play at a fairly high level. Maybe he waits until just before camp or even after the season has started.
There will be plenty of bad contracts the Hawks can pick up along with other assets this summer to get to the cap floor.

He wasn't on the same level as Kane, but Vermette signed back with PHX after winning with the Hawks.

Can't remember any other similar situations in recent history though.

Difference is most of the other stars (Giroux, Thornton, Marceau, Iginla) were chasing their first cups. Kane would be chasing Blackhawks all time records.

Kane is a different animal. Lots of things could motivate him to resign with the Hawks. Bedard? Fantili? ADB? Domi?
Also does his nagging chronic injury require surgery? If so when does he have the surgery and when will he be ready to play? If he is not ready to play at the start of camp does he wait to see who the Hawks draft and what their roster looks like, and what other teams rosters look like before signing anywhere?
I would think 3 years max. $7 to $8 mil seems right for a year or two IF he is healthy. For 3 or 4 years the cap hit should be less.

Well if he trades McCabe, Domi, D ickinson, Lafferty, Kane he is going to have to do something like that.

Seth Jones and Tyler Johnson would be the highest paid player left.

So....was that the Toews news around the Leafs game you were expecting?

If that was the last time Kane was a Hawk at home....what a performance. Big FU to all the media members blowing this injury out of hand, saying teams had concerns....looked to be the best player on the ice for long stretches last night.

As far as Toews goes....it's just time to retire. The guy can't stay healthy and if he is still battling health wise the time away isn't going to help and a large body of work he'll need to put in to look anything close to his old safe given his age.

No definitely not.

Johnny is a big supporter of Misericordia Heart of Mercy in Chicago. It is a great organization that provides better lives, jobs and residences for people born with various disabilities. Years ago most of the residents would have been just written off as retarded. Somebody very close to me has a mid 30's daughter who lives in one of Misericordia's residences. She has a useful life despite her disability.

Anyway, #19 does what he can and helps raise money for Misericordia. They were selling raffle tickets on a meet and greet with him after the game last night. Winning ticket got to bring 3 others to meet him, get autographed jerseys and a photo op with him. The goal was to raise about $50K for Misericordia. I thought it was his fairwell gesture before he moved on. (I don't know what happened after his announcement yesterday but will find out).

Johnny brought the Stanley Cup to Misericordia a couple of times and to see the joy in the faces of these residents was really heartwarming. It makes you believe there is still some good in the world.

So it isn't just a "drive what Kane and Toews drive" commercial for every player. Some of them do good things

I'm with you - I think he retires. Nothing more to win.

Ironic how over the past few years the team has gone from cap hell in one direction to cap hell in the other direction.

Let's say the Hawks only trade their upcoming UFA's Domi, AA and maybe Kane and start next year with the players they have under control (including Lafferty, McCabe et al. ) That's 12 players at 34.7M.

Include Reichel, Vlasic, Roos and Phillips on the team = 4M

Sign RFA's Mitchell, Kurashev and Soderblum for say a generous 5M total.

19 players so far at 43.7M.

Kane 7M ?, resign Domi or take on a cap dump at 4M? take on another cap dump at 5M? = 22 players at 59.7M.

Still under the cap floor by 2-3M with 1 one roster spot left. Maybe Bedard at 1M or another veteran vet. And that is if you don't trade McCabe and his 2M or $M depending on retention.

I am not worried at all about the Hawks hitting the cap floor if Davidson were to go nuclear and find buyers for McCabe and Murphy. LIkely retains $$ on at least 1, if not both. If teams like Arizona can hit the cap floor, the Hawks will have no issue. Teams will be looking to dump bad money contracts this summer. Always a constant in the cap world.

Lets just focus on 3/3 and then see what is left heading to the draft.

Yep, I'm sure KD has a plan for hitting the cap floor, and I hope he maxes out on TDL deals.

Chicago will always be able to sign players if they really want to.

I think the short term issue for management will be that they have to put a team on the ice that "somewhat" resembles an NHL team. Losing is one thing, but being unwatchable gets expensive. 5000 sold tickets per night against the cap floor is a financial mess. Not something the NHL wants to see either.

How about this - throw a f$ck into Yzerman and the Red Wings and float his agent a message that there is a huge McDavid type $value contract available for Dylan Larkin if they wait until July 1. Overpay yes, but he is just replacing #19. And add some players from there.

What a great position for them to be in considering cap hell that's going to continue for so many teams, for so many years. Although the rest of the league is going to feel enormous pressure from the teams that have the money and want the cap to go up.

I really don't think that's going to be the case Rick, the poopty west side where the Chicago Stadium used to be is gone as well, it's beginning to get a feel of the Wrigley Field area. It will take a long string of horrendous years for it to go back to the way it was. There's only so much entertainment in the Chicago land area in the winter and plenty of disposable income.

And if they win the Bedard sweepstakes then they will continue to almost sell out.

Dallas doesn’t’t have a #1 pick, Vegas has no prospects, and Edmonton needs a defenseman way more than Kane.

Dallas has a #1 next year. They are desperately trying to find somebody to skate with Seguin. Have to think they'll be shopping hard for a F

Edmonton....agreed......

Vegas...I don't see a fit there.

Really to me, if I had to bet money on it I would say it's either

Dallas
or
Carolina

I think both of those teams are the most complete and give Kane the best chance to win. carolina is going to need more scoring to get past NY Rangers.

Dallas....question is does Kane think with him on Dallas can they get by the Avs in 7? If so....likely best chance to get to the cup final as I don't see a Pac team beating Dallas or Colorado. I would love to say Winnipeg but like Carolina they just always seem to lack scoring come playoff time.

Meh, I don't think getting to the cap floor is a concern. Plenty of free agents this year they could throw money at for 1 or 2 year deals.

Grammar police...and common sense....It's bad enough that you can't spell absence, add in that you can't spell the player's names correctly either and you have poor journalistic skills. My God, if you are going to pretend to be a sports writer then at least spell check your articles.
