Dallas has a #1 next year. They are desperately trying to find somebody to skate with Seguin. Have to think they'll be shopping hard for a F
Edmonton....agreed......
Vegas...I don't see a fit there.
Really to me, if I had to bet money on it I would say it's either
Dallas
or
Carolina
I think both of those teams are the most complete and give Kane the best chance to win. carolina is going to need more scoring to get past NY Rangers.
Dallas....question is does Kane think with him on Dallas can they get by the Avs in 7? If so....likely best chance to get to the cup final as I don't see a Pac team beating Dallas or Colorado. I would love to say Winnipeg but like Carolina they just always seem to lack scoring come playoff time. - SteveRain
I don't see a fit in Dallas only because of the lack of 1st round draft pick this year and the fact that they are a division rival. Don't want to take any chance(s) of giving Dallas a leg up in extension discussions.
Edmonton is who I am rooting for most because they will likely have the best 1st round pick available to offer (highest) and McDavid/Kane is must-watch television.
Carolina is the most logical as best fit, but Carolina has historically been stingy with blockbuster-types of deals and they like players with term so don't think they're particularly keen on bringing 88 in when someone like Meier is available. |

If the Hawks put Toews on LTIR and with his consent trade him to say the Rangers, could New York use the LTIR cap relief to obtain a certain player also with a 10.5M cap hit? |

This would be subject to some real scrutiny by the league. Especially since both KD and Coach R said the team was looking to get #19 back into the lineup in March if his medical condition and treatment allowed for it.
Plus, I don't think a team can trade an injured/unable to perform player without medical clearance by doctors at the league level. Otherwise there would be all kinds of cap circumvention stuff going on.
Edmonton had an issue last week - Yamamoto was ready to return from IR and they were forced to send 2 players to the AHL who could clear waivers and allow them to be cap compliant. So they have played the last couple of games short of a full lineup. |

Chicago will always be able to sign players if they really want to.
I think the short term issue for management will be that they have to put a team on the ice that "somewhat" resembles an NHL team. Losing is one thing, but being unwatchable gets expensive. 5000 sold tickets per night against the cap floor is a financial mess. Not something the NHL wants to see either.
How about this - throw a f$ck into Yzerman and the Red Wings and float his agent a message that there is a huge McDavid type $value contract available for Dylan Larkin if they wait until July 1. Overpay yes, but he is just replacing #19. And add some players from there. - RickJ
20,000+ at the UC last night, second biggest crowd of the season, after the Hossa jersey retirement. And the attendance has been on an upward trend all season. Based on what I've seen at the games I've been at this season, many fewer 60+ year old white males, many younger families, women and people of color. |

Ironic how over the past few years the team has gone from cap hell in one direction to cap hell in the other direction.
Let's say the Hawks only trade their upcoming UFA's Domi, AA and maybe Kane and start next year with the players they have under control (including Lafferty, McCabe et al. ) That's 12 players at 34.7M.
Include Reichel, Vlasic, Roos and Phillips on the team = 4M
Sign RFA's Mitchell, Kurashev and Soderblum for say a generous 5M total.
19 players so far at 43.7M.
Kane 7M ?, resign Domi or take on a cap dump at 4M? take on another cap dump at 5M? = 22 players at 59.7M.
Still under the cap floor by 2-3M with 1 one roster spot left. Maybe Bedard at 1M or another veteran vet. And that is if you don't trade McCabe and his 2M or $M depending on retention. - boilermaker100
Maybe they can get Seabrook back from TB? |

What does Coach R know about health issues? He thought Toews had the flu.
Let the league's medical staff review Toews' health situation. He sat out a whole year with his first occurrence. Seven weeks til the end of the regular season is nothing.

Division rivalries just don't hold the same meaning anymore. Besides the Hawks sent MAF to the Wild last season and back in the Norris Division of the Campbell Conference days the Hawks, Jets, Stars and Leaves would exchange players and they were all in the same division |

Yes, cap doesn't count during the playoffs. Would be similar to Kane's injury in 2015 and Kucherov a couple of years ago.
Edit - I suggest NY waits til the 2nd round to activate Toews. Don't want to make it look too fishy. |

I’m surprised the NHL hasn’t tried to close that loophole. |

I'm still annoyed with Tazer deciding to take that whole year off because it forced the Hawks to sign that useless t$t Dylan Strome for another year.
And Coach R knows something about health issues - he carries a sack of Tylenol around with him that he chews during a game while he is forced to watch Connor Murphy and the Jones Bros. in action. |

Thats the good news, its a great hockey market with big fan interest not just within Chicago but across North America. And its so much better for the league when they are a decent team.
I happened to be at the train station in downtown Toronto last Wednesday when the Hawks were in town. Huge number of people wearing Hawks jerseys wandering around Union Station prior to the game. Same thing happens when they play in Montreal. |

I was at Union station around 5:30 on Wednesday night. We were meeting some friends for dinner. I saw a bunch of people in Hawk Jerseys as well. One guy in particular I thought may be you. He had a number 9 Hawk jersey on, was using a walker and was muttering about how useless Strome was. |

While true, I think circumstances were a little different:
For starters, MAF was a goalie, so by default he already had a more limited market (even though both him and Kane had NTC's). Secondly, he wasn't having as good a campaign at the time (more of an indicator of the team in front of him), and lastly, he didn't have the emotional connection to Chicago the way Kaner does as he was only here for half a season.
I'm not ruling out a trade to a division rival - because at the end of the day what matters most is the team receives the best compensation package they get - but I'm sure they'll be prioritizing other teams all things considered. |

Maybe he did know and didn't want to put Toews personal life out there. That's not his story to share until the Captain felt comfortable to make that announcement. It wouldn't be the first time a coach wasn't honest at the mic. |

That probably was me, I got very confused and ended up at a curling rink asking for Patrick Kane's autograph.
Loved the Leaf's excuses for the loss last night - very tired because they played the night before. Meanwhile it was the Hawks 4th game in 6 nights.
But maybe they had an excuse - the Toronto media were inducting Ryan O'Reilly into the Hockey Hall of Fame right after his first game and whole team had to attend.

Well that didn't end well for the Ducks. They still pulled off an overtime loss so now we have three loser/winners tied at 41 points but the others have games on hand.
Sharks are quickly catching up with the pack.
After the TDL these 4 should be significantly worse and the tank even more. |

Curious if Dubas is still looking to bolster the defense? Since they signed Tavares they have needed to upgrade the defense and that weakness is still there. A few years ago I thought Reilly was going to be a solid defender, he really isn’t that good and he’s probably their best guy. As Hawk fans we were spoiled with Keith, Seabrook, Hjalmarsson and Oduya. |

Not sure if Kane would waive for the Isle. Not a popular place to be sent to. That said, we could send Domi there. |

Barzal is injured, supposedly week to week. But why would Kane now want to go there where the Islanders might not make the playoffs? |

Reilly has not been very good since coming back from that knee injury and he doesn't do much for them on the PP. But they are stuck with him forever now with that contract.
And when 40 year old Giordano is your 2nd or 3rd best Dman and goaltending is iffy, they should be worried going into the playoffs, games are won and lost behind the blue line.
Mattias Ekholm would fit perfectly for them, but Nashville isn't giving him away cheap. |
