Dumb question but is there any chance that Brind'Amour still thinks fondly of McGinn? Like fondly enough that if we ate $1 million/year of his contract in a trade, they'd take him off our hands?
Like I said, DUMB QUESTION. |

Not until the summer and even then probably not. Have young guys coming up to fill those spots going forward. |

Carter doesn’t have the legs to play bottom 6 minutes let alone top 6. Even for a few shifts - jchst22
He doesn't have to carry the puck. Just skate into the slot and let Crosby or Malkin feed you.
Like people said, his mitts look cooked so I agree, chances are low but...well, what do they have to lose? |

If there’s a team McGinn would fit in with I think Carolina is it. I just don’t see there being a hole there for him to fill. |

Problem is the entire 3rd line needs to be changed. Can’t trade for a winger then slide down zucker with Carter/McGinn only for him to be useless. Need to trade for a competent 3rd line center and a top 9 winger at least.
I seriously think the HBK line at their current age would be better than this poop show |

Ok, so I don't post in here often, if at all really, but I agree with the consensus that this team cannot keep going the way it's constructed. I honestly think that Sully is stale and past his expiration, but the players aren't off the hook either. But something needs to give. Hextall needs to make some moves ( even though he probably won't) and I've been wracking my brain as to what they could do to try and salvage this season, and in my mind it's either go hard or go home. Does this move the needle?
Kap and a 2nd (2025) for Puljujarvi and a 3rd (2023)
Pettersson, DeSmith, Pickering/Smith, and a 1st (2023) for Chychrun (1.6 retained), Velmejka and a 2nd (2024)
Carter, McGinn, Dumo and two 2nds (2023 & 2024) for McCabe and Domi
You end up with
Guentzel-Sid-Rakell
Zucker-Malkin-Rust
Heinen-Domi-Puljujarvi
Archy-Blueger-Poehling
Chychrun-Letang
McCabe-Petry
POJ-Rutta (when healthy)

So, Jeff Petry is on the block. He has a fifteen team no trade clause, according to CapFriendly. Does that mean he is willing to expand that to more teams?
Does this mean the Pens are now sellers? I think it does, because Friedman nor Ruhwedel are better players than Petry. It also tells us Rutta is ready to return and the Pens do not have the cap space to place him on the roster. Finally, it could mean management wants to play Ty Smith. |

Who is this outside chatter you speak of? No names or specifics, is it media, players, rumours, front office, team employees, who?
We've lacked toughness for a long time. Even when we get a decent tough guy, Sullivan benches him or gives him five minutes of ice time.
We don't have anywhere near the cap space to acquire Tom Wilson.
You really don't need to be a good fighter anymore. You do need to slow the other team down a bit. Watson can do that. The problem is he'll be alone on an island and therefore won't be effective.
Truthfully the fanbase and media around here don't want physical hockey teams. This is basically the team we want. Guys who have good fancy stats. Doesn't really matter if we outscore teams, just get more shots. - Thunderbolt
hahaha should I take offense to this? I'm like the only one posting underlying stats around here usually. Nah, its all good. I love hard hitting physical hockey players but they also have to be smart and productive too..in my opinion smart and productive is far more important than just tough n rough. Truth is every NHL player is tough to a degree and most likely tougher than you or me.
Pens are 4th in the league in hits...and yes, I know, rarely do we see massive hits from the Pens but can you point me in the direction of the team that is laying massive hits every single game? Like for instance, Rangers have Trouba...he's not laying big hits every single game. Its kinda funny...of the top 15 teams in hits only 3 are currently in a playoff position.
"....Doesn't really matter if we outscore teams, just get more shots." hahaha you off your meds, or what?

Honestly? I am hoping Hex is following Doug Armstrong's playbook for the Blues (apparently they are working on a deal to try and land Meier). Pretend you are shipping off some pieces. Stock up a bit then make a larger trade. |

Personally I love this scenario. It allows us to get younger. I doubt we would get a 2nd back in the Coyotes trade (since they are asking for a kings ransom for Chychrun). I think it would bring some different elements. I could see Domi, Heinen, and Puljujarvi being a sneaky good 3rd line and provide good secondary scoring. Chychrun would just be the next generation for us and would bring an additional all-star talent to the blueline. Velmejka could end up being a steal of a goaltender. McCabe would be quietly solid as a pickup. |

There is a guy that posts around here sometimes, used to a lot more, that has a friend in the organization and he said around Christmas time the Pens were trying to acquire Domi and McCabe in a package deal...no idea if thats true or not but I'm pretty sure he's been right before.

I actually had a dream about the deadline which we made a huge trade with Vancouver which included Myers, JT Miller, Hoglander, it was either Garland or Boeser as well and we sent Rust, Petry, Kap, and I believe Dumo plus some picks and prospects. TSN was going nuts in my dream with the news. Then I of course woke up lol |

I am hoping we do bring them both in. I know rumors have us tied to Chychrun as well. So I am hoping his scenario comes true! It would definitely make us a younger and deeper team. |

Spoiler alert.
Hex waits till last minute to make a deal.
Nothing happens and at a press conference he says, we’re happy with the roster we have and need to play to our strengths. We’re excited about our picks in 22 making an impact and we can bolster our roster in the 23 draft.
Pens get the last wc spot. Lose in 5. Hex blames energy…just not our year |

All the pens need is another injury prone player like Chychrun. It’s a perfect fit. |

Church Run is another LD though....If...big if....the Pens wanted to and could get rid of Dumo we'd still have Petts, POJ and Smith for the left side. Unless of course they packaged POJ or Smith in another trade. You also want McCabe as well...another LD....I see no scenario where the Pens end up with both Chychrun and McCabe...they are also a combined 8.6 mill cap hit...Smith and POJ's are around 1.6 |

I really dont know much about Church other than he's a talked about available good Dman.
With PHX i dont think its unrealistic to make Dumo part of hte deal. PHX is all about cap floor. They won't re sign him next year.
either way i feel like by the deadline, hte big moves will be done way before then. |

These aren't unlike moves a bunch of posters here were hoping for in the offseason. Could have been done then. Or in Nov/Dec. Hex sat on his hands and did nothing. It would be hard to integrate an entire new 3rd line in March. 1 of the positives of GMJR was he made trades early so the player had time to build chemistry, and it allowed time to further analyze the roster to see what holes truly remained. We have 4 holes. We could have filled 1-2 early in the season and addressed the other 2 at the deadline. Now way hextall makes 4 trades in 1 day. |
