Didn't Washington and Colorado do this once with Brooks Orpik? I think it made the league mad at the time.

I think you're right, TJ. I remember something about not being allowed to pay less than 25% of the contract of a player on your roster. So, that would be 2 other teams at the max of 50% retention.
