The stats are skewed by volume, primarily from the 2nd period, and not quality. As someone that values the nerd stats they tend to overvalue the cumulative value of high volume low quality chances.

Yeah, pretty much every time Tom posts those charts they all line up reasonably well with what I saw. Except that Deserve to Win crap-o-meter. It's usually flipped exactly opposite.
Last night may have been a harder one to read, though. Detroit blocked so many shots AND passes that NY looked worse than they probably were.
Essentially never having the same line mates probably hampered our guys a little, too. They're pro's, but I know that playing rec hockey that way it never feels as good as set lines.
