tampa doesn't draft until the 6th round this year - TheSabresTaco
They are going to have nothing to plug in when Stammer and Heddy retire.
Tough times coming for them in a couple years. |

Atleast the players they have gone after recently are pretty young, that will help a bit. And Tampa still has a few good D prospects to use, Roman Schmidt and Jake Thompson. |

What is the condition on the conditional 1st? Seems a bit odd given the Devils record. |

SJ gets the 1st if NJ makes the ECF this year or next. If they don't it turns into a 2nd rnd pick |

Meier has to play 50% of the games, if not injured that won't be an issue
And
Only becomes a 1st next year if the devil's make the conference finals this year or next year
And if the devil's miss the playoffs next year, it is top 10 protected
The east is a friggin juggernaut no matter what team playing there is no east series this year
And it sounds like it's devil's vs rangers as 2 and 3 are pretty secured.
By the time it's the finals the western conference is going to be like wow the east killed themselves but at least they took all our talent in trades so they should be warn out
Going to be crazy |

Thought that was odd too considering their record, but teams just cannot resist the insurance that is a pick condition, no matter how foolish it may seem.
>>> 2023 1st round pick (NJD) [Conditional]*
2024 2nd round pick (NJD) [Conditional]**
2024 7th round pick (NJD)
*Conditions: If the pick is a top-two selection, New Jersey will instead transfer their own 2024 first-round pick.
**Conditions: If NJD make the 2023 Eastern Conference Final (ECF) and Meier plays in 50% of the games, or NJD make the 2024 Eastern Conference Final, the pick becomes NJD's 2024 1st.
If 2024 1st is top 10, NJD have the option to instead transfer their 2025 1st.
Should NJD transfer their 2023 1st to their 2024 1st (As it is top 2 protected), and they make the conference final in 2024, SJS will receive their 2025 1st. |

They wanted 2 1sts for him. Funny I did a fake AGM about 3 weeks ago and Nashville fans were accepting a 2nd and Kisakov for Jeannot. I like the kid, but Damn!! Crouse's price just sky rocketed. |

Could happen, but lately those trades have been for younger players who will be there for awhile. - Buff36
The crate of picks they gave up for Hagel and Jeannot is.. well it's something.
That team goes as far as Stamkos, Kuch, Point, Hedman and Vasy takes them. They have some years left.

As someone who spent a little time in law school, let me tell you what that is: billable hours. That's some lawyer or group of lawyers getting few thousand more dollars from the Sharks and Devils.
That is some madeup bullpoop right there. Gotta love it.

The Devils gave up a few picks and a group of players we'll never hear from for Meier. I understand San Jose's position, but we could have beaten that offer easily and San Jose wouldn't have had to retain salary. |

Call it the chicken little clause.
Some nerd in the Devils nerdery: Um, Mr. Fitzgerald, if we lose almost all of our remaining 23 games, we could still mathematically end up with one of the top 2 picks, so just to be safe, shouldn't we add a condition to our 2023 1st?
Fitzgerald: Sure, but I can assure you that the sky will not be falling. |

a crappy first 3 drafts from now and a crappy defenseman. Just the shear volume for a guy like that is stunning. If it was the Sabres giving up those picks, 3 of them would be NHL regulars. One would definitely be a top 15 goalie.

Funny for as strong as the Sabres prospect pool is it actually hurt us in a trade for Timo. The one weak area D pretty much ended that trade. |

In a couple of years Muk, while not a household name or anything special, should be a decent 2nd pair dman if it all works out, he has raw talent and has improved a lot but was expendable as he wasn't going to beat out Hughes or Nemec
Zetts is a decent 3rd liner that's responsible defensively and will chip in but you trade him for guys like Meier
It's going to depend on Meier signing and if the sharks hit on the picks
I think the sharks were holding out and realized that they weren't going to get what they hoped for and other teams didn't want to trade so much for a rental where some of those reportedly interested had no room for next season to sign him so they looked elsewhere
The devil's apparently were ok with doing the trade with no extension and will work on it now, and it helps having 2 other swiss (3:if you count schmid who is up with blackwood injured...again) |

I’d rather wait on Meier to see if he resigns. The asking price this deadline is absurd. Adams is making the right move. I bet we pop on a depth guy or 2 close to deadline end when asking price comes back down to Earth. |

It was one trade in NSH/TB where every other GM was floored by the return.
SJ got very little in return In Terms of quality for Meier.
Buffalos match to that
Asplund
Bloom
Johnson
Conditional 1 this year
2 this year.
That might even be more than what the Devils gave up.
Every other move has been average return.

That depth guy would have looked nice on Krebs wing, maybe Cozens if he finds his touch a bit from last year. And he would have definitely helped in "You Better back the F@ck Up" if you decided to breathe wrong on a Teammate cause I am gonna take your Head off. |

It seems more of a buyers market other than the Tampa trade
Or at worst an even hockey trade |
