This is the second time you've offered this crazy opinion that Calgary would've taken Provorov and Konecny instead of what they got from Florida. Seriously? Huberdeau was a two time 30 goal scorer, which Konceny has never done, and a hundred point scorer who just set an NHL record for most assists ever by a LW in an NHL season. Weegar is a significantly better defenseman than Provorov is. There is no way in a a bid against Florida that they would've taken that offer from the Flyers over the Florida offer.
- MJL

Ok, first Huberdeau had to be resigned, he was on the 2nd to last year of his deal. Huberdeau is a 20-30 goal a year player that they had to sign for $10.5M! TK is a 20-30 goal scorer signed for half that amount, and is a better fit with Sutter as the coach. Provey is not the offensive threat that Weegar is but is better defensively and again is a much better fit with Sutter as coach. And Provey makes around the same money as Weegar, so in the end the Flames would have got 2 players that better fit Sutter's style for much less money. So its not so far-fetched when you actually look at the facts! Also, the Flyers might have been able to throw in a couple of young prospects to make the deal work.

Tkachuk makes 9.5M a year. Konecny has never scored 30 goals in a season. Provorov is not better defensively than Weegar is. That they better fit Sutter's style is an invention on your part. It's extremely far fetched and flat out absurd to suggest that they would've taken that offer from the Flyers over the Florida offer.
Somehow in your world, that they better fit Sutter's style is a fact. It's also not a fact that Konecny is a 20-30 goal scorer. Not yet.

Yeah, they are looking good for the future for sure. I will forever hate that team for ruining hockey in the mid 1990's with their boreass trap and Mr. Cheapshot POS Scott Stevens. They are fun to watch, but it's a shame that they really don't have any fans. They win a Cup and they parade it around in a parking lot in the middle of a swamp with 30,000 fans. Too close to Rags and Flyers country. FIRE CHUCK!!
- Phillywhiteout

Yes, I hated the pre 2004 Devils, they almost destroyed the game IMO. Plus I hate Scott Stevens with every fiber of my being. The only way I could hate him more is if he was a Bruin. He was a dirty, low-down cheater I wish someone would have jammed their stick right down his throat because that is what he deserved! But I digress ...

This was what Weegar looked like at the time of the trade:

Compare that to Provy:

Its clear TK is not only a 30 goal scorer, but he is also a better all around player than Huberdeau! Also Huberdeau is not playing nice with Sutter in Calgary so far.

This is completely useless and misleading. How can you look at Provey's metrics from the past 3 seasons given what this Flyers team has been since Covid??

Sutter is big into analytics. There's no way he would have preferred TK/Provy over Huberdeau/Weegar. TK and Provy are both poor defensively and would have driven Sutter nuts.

Good players can still play well for bad teams... like Coots' and Sanheim's numbers were strong during Covid.

See there you go, I don't know if you got the memo but Sanheim sucks. I don't care what the metrics state, he sucks! He can't play defense, can't play the PP and his occasional rushes up ice typically end in nothing. Hands down the worst contract Fletcher ever doled out!

People need to lay off about the Ratcliffe deal and rationalize it. He is a player that has struggled here and was no longer in the teams future plans. It's reasonable to assume that Fletcher shopped him around the league. No takers for a draft pick. Do the right thing and give the kid a chance to play somewhere else where maybe a change of scenery might help him. It frees up a contract spot. The question is will Ratclife succeed elsewhere?
- MJL

Another botched draft attempt from the country club.

Both Provey and TK are old school players, play tons of minutes, in good shape and give maximum effort. That is why Tort's loves them and that is why Sutter would love them also. And besides, Huberdeau is a great defensive player now? Oh, that's right, I'm sure you have a stat for that also.

Do you want to actually talk about my point that players can perform well on bad teams, or do you want to dive into some tangent about Travis Sanheim?

Team struggles cannot explain away Provy's personal struggles. The guy just isn't an effective top-pair dman.

You apparently know nothing about Darryl Sutter.

And Huberdeau is about as bad as TK defensively but miles better offensively at the time of the trade.

Konecny is not a better all around player. Is this another jd250 fact?

At the time of the trade was any possibility that Sutter and Huberdeau would not get along known so it would be a factor in the trade?

It's laughable to say that they would've taken the Flyers proposed deal over the deal they took from Florida.

I'm still waiting for him to tell me who the shrewd free agent signings were in NJ.

Remember Ratcliffe was a 2nd round pick...that the Flyer ALSO spent additional assets to move up to draft. 3 picks I believe.

If that is confusing then take a seat next to Chuck.

- Glak18

The flyers passed on Robertson for him too
