For those asking, purpose of not playing those two is to protect them from injury. #NYR want the option of sending one down tomorrow. They can't demote both because they need a minimum of 20 players on the roster. My guess is Schneider goes down, then swaps with Carpenter on Wed.

The reason why Schneider has been forced to miss not only this game, but also must be sent down to Hartford are:

1) We know the trade for Kane has been agreed upon, but without its details.
2) Even with Leschyshyn clearing waivers today, and then loaned to Hartford, the NYR would still not have enough cap space accrued yet to fit in Kane's 25% portion ($2.625M) they are responsible for retaining. The maximum accrual of Leschyshyn's cap hit would not be in effect until March 2nd, resulting in the Kane trade likely not being officially completed until the following day of the trade deadline.
3) Due to the early starting time, along with needing to be both cap & roster compliant per their official roster today, the Rangers were not only forced to sit Schneider for out this game, but also forced to send him down to Hartford until the sufficient cap space can all be accrued to fit in Kane.

The question is why Schneider being the one for both instances?
The reason is he is currently the only WAIVERS-EXEMPT player on the NYR roster not having to be exposed to waivers to be sent down & clear them to remain a Ranger.

I Want this weird (frank)ing era of rangers hockey to be in the rear view already. This being the era of gaming the cap for 2 weeks by playing like 7 players

-Send Schneider down Mon/Tues, back Wed
-Call up another D for Game on Wed (Hajek)
-Thurs trade for Kane @ 25%, send Carpenter & recently called up D back down

I hate all of this

So tj's dream cost the Rangers to play with a short roster for 3 games thus far, and possibly another or two. Imagine if the difference in 4 points lost during this stretch thus far resulting in part in an 0-2-0 record turns out somewhat to be a determining factor for postseason position.

At least we're ahead 3-0 in the 2nd with Shesty playing like last year's Vezina winning Shesty up to this point.
