Good point.
That's another team that needs to add to the arms race in the east.
JTM for Kokeinami and a 1st. - dbot

Carolina Hurricanes
What direction the Hurricanes take next after missing out on Meier remains to be seen. There was speculation that Carolina was also interested in Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane, who can become an unrestricted free agent after this season.
Kane went back to Chicago before the Blackhawks' 4-3 shootout win at the Sharks on Saturday and signs continue to point to the 34-year-old landing with the New York Rangers. But the Hurricanes are thought to be looking for a scoring forward after losing Max Pacioretty for the season after he tore his left Achilles tendon for the second time Jan. 19.
Owner Tom Dundon told the "Daily Faceoff Live with Frank Seravalli" podcast Wednesday that the Hurricanes were "leaning more on the aggressive side than ever right now."
"I think we've got ourselves in a position, with the amount of assets we have for the future and the age of our team and where we are, that we can probably be a little more aggressive giving up something in the future to increase our odds today without changing the window much, whatever that means," Dundon said.
Would love for Carolina to go after JTM |

I would be surprised also but I am fine if it is true.

Would rather see him moved, I just think the timing/age of his contract is going to keep the Canucks in an awkward spot. Especially seeing what Tampa paid for Jeannot... hopefully the Canucks could get half that for JTM |

I like JTM but 8 years is four years too long. I would move him for a first round pick let alone anything else.

Pretty much. I think a 1st plus a prospect would be ideal. Anything more is just gravy. |

I would also be surprised, but also elated. I know some will think that the current prices that are being handed out, should increase his return, but different circumstances, as most are Pending free agents, so term isn't an issue, as it is with Miller.

Agreed. |

With most of the leagues heavyweights already making moves, Carolina, Pittsburgh, Dallas, LA, and to a lesser extent, Buffalo, Detroit and Jets(defenseman), should be the next ones up to try make a move or 2.
Maybe Edmonton might be able to get something done, as well, and of course Calgary, who badly need an offensive centre.
Edit; forgot to add Vegas, who always seem to be in the mix on everything. |

Weirdly enough, the 1st round pick the Canucks gave up to get Miller was used to draft Mukhamadullin, who was just involved in the Meier trade. |

I'm sure Allvin will spin it as we got 'three first round picks' for JTM technically.
Conditional top 12 protected and a 1st rounder roster player plus an AHL 1st round roster player...

Someone said on here, can't remember who, they read the Canucks can't retain on his 8 mil contract because it hasn't started yet? I'm sure they'd be happy to retain on this year... but don't know if it's possible to retain on the next?

Is Schneider really that good?I havn’t really watched him but I see his name here quite often. - Bettmanhatesus
He’s showing good signs at being a steady defensive D man. Offense isn’t a strength. Top 4 ceiling. |

I can't even think of a player with an upcoming extension who has ever been traded before it started, let alone having salary retained on it. |
