They still have their 1sts... Owen Pickering, Filip Hallander, Samuel Poulin aren't really top tier prospects... so ya, not the best trading partner for prospects

1. Owen Pickering, LHD, 18 (Swift Current Broncos)

Pickering’s offensive production still doesn’t jump out at you, and I felt (and feel) that No. 21 was a little too high for him in the draft, but there are plenty of things about him and his game that do jump out at you. He’s an extremely intelligent kid with a long, effortless skating stride that is atypical of a 6-foot-4 defenseman. He’s got an extremely smooth glide to his stride and through his pivots and backwards crossovers, moving from forwards to backwards with ease for a player his size. He’s still really lean and has struggled to add muscle to his frame, but his north-south game is impressive because of his first pass and skating ability. There’s some work to do to add elements to a smooth but unremarkable game inside the offensive zone but he was productive on a low-scoring team last year, has taken a step on a mid-table team this year, his point shot is hard, and his skating will carry him to the NHL. He’s not likely going to be a big point producer at the next level, but he should have two-way value as a second-pairing type at his ceiling and a third-pairing guy at his floor. Nobody who has ever spoken with him was surprised he was named Swift Current’s captain this year, either. Great kid.

Hoglander is gaining value playing in Abby. I heard that a few teams have asked about him but Canucks still want to hang onto him and feel he is heading in the right direction.

Hallander already 22 and seemingly not getting time with the Penguins. Poulin entered the substance abuse program did he not? Player assistance? is that the official name?

Pickering yeah, he's not having a very good year. Long term prospect.

I don't value Miller as a cap dump as some people who just want him gone for the sake of the grass is always greener on the other side.

I was at the Abby game last weekend and Hoglander's skill and speed was very noticeable every time he was on the ice. His confidence will be boosted by being down there

Rags have sat out Schneider for trade reasons – most likely going to the Hawks for Kane, but if a deal centered around retention + Hoglander for Schneider, I would make that move.

One thing I have noticed in the last few weeks is I like the Joshua Aman line. Agitate and creating scoring chances. I am finally beginning to like the line progression. It has a different feeling.

It is starting to lose the Country Club feeling and more than stern looks retaliation.

I don't think Edmonton could afford lose anyone that's decent at playing defence and I don't think Carolina needs to add more defence to their lack of offence
