81-80-27 was a great line!! Maybe our best all year and bones changed it to try and get the other line going.
Our PP has also been best when 27 is on the top unit.
This teams problem for the past 3 years is over accommodating Wheeler and always changing things to try and get him going, when in reality he is now a third liner who shouldn’t be on the PP - Ross77
Ross, what dynamic has changed from first half of season to the second half ?

Looks like Julien Brisbois (Tampa Bay GM) is drunk or something. Tanner Jeannot just got Nashville a 2025 first round pick, 2024 second round pick and a 3rd, 4th and 5th round 2023 draft picks + Cal Foote.
Imagine what Adam Lowry could have fetched the Jets? - TheUltimateJet
I agree. This is a serious overpay ??? He is a borderline 2nd-line LW with .25 points per game . Chevy got an almost equivalent player albeit with a higher salary cap for a mere 2nd.
The Eastern Conference will be a complete war zone with some of the prospective matchups and their newly beefed-up lineups. One wonders if the team that gets through it all and into the final will have anything left in the tank.
NJD vs NYR
Leafs vs TB
Hurricane vs Islanders
Bruins vs Pens |

that trade was nuts!!! completely nuts what they gave up. if that's what Jennault got, what can we get for PLD??????? |

Unfortunately this is the teams second biggest problem. The biggest problem has been guaranteeing Lowry’s position as the third line center. - TheUltimateJet
Lowry should be fourth line center , but where bottom 6 players play will never be a bigger issue than top 6 guys. |

Ross, what dynamic has changed from first half of season to the second half ? - jetsnation
lots!!
Heinola played more in first half
Stanley didnt ( hurt )
our bottom 6 was scoring
our D ( not named Morrisey ) were scoring
the team was working harder, back checking harder, overall playing harder
Ehlers was on the top unit, the difference from Ehlers on the top unit to off it , is night and day results wise

OK, you make some good points and I agree with what you wrote.
But, Ehlers was out till what, Jan 9? Also, don't forget that a good part of that that timeframe was that Schmidt, Perfetti, Wheeler, and Maenalanen were also out.
Did the replacements work harder while these guys were out? Did Mikey Esseymont bring a harder work ethic prior to being waived and claimed? Even PLD paid homage to these guys that were plugged in recognizing their contributions.
Obviously this is a serious slide and fans are booing and Bronx cheering them at the game, which is not good. The players need to look at themselves in the mirror as how is it a coaching issue when you go from 1st to worst in 6 weeks? I am not saying Ehlers is the main problem but there are some body language this guy is displaying that suggests he isn't either happy or something is up.
His playoff performance are nothing to get excited about either, 12 pts in 31 games, although his advance look decent. But, if we continue sideways, he is a gonner and should get a good haul at some point. |

I do agree with your statement here. His contract is now detrimental to the club. |

you are right, we were better with Wheeler and Saku out of the lineup. its the focus on Ehlers thats killing me.

I get it, definitely going against the grain. Maybe the consistently changing linemates is screwing him up, which alludes to coaching, don't know. But, something is up and this continual looking to the rafters when you fall down is infuriating to watch.
I know how Messier would handle that in the dressing room. We will see, they tried to trade him before....... |

I agree. Fly appears to be quite the head case. His antics can't be good for team morale having to watch it game in and out. You don't see anyone else on the team doing it except maybe Appleton once in a while.

I disagree. The fact that we still have a top 6 and bottom 6 is a major part of the problem. The fact that Chevy has not been able to adapt to the new NHL where there is a top 9 and bottom 3 is the major part of why the top 6 bottom 6 idea is a problem.

Look at the Leafs usual ice-time stats. Take the last game for example. Almost every forward was around 14 minutes. No one beyond 16 and no one under 12. Thats rolling 4 lines perfectly evenly.

come on!!!
How many ex Jets have to come forward and discuss the real issue in that locker room??? how many??? stop pointing any fingers at Ehlers when you know where to point them, we took a letter off a jersey, when we should've removed said jersey from the locker room |

Your point is well taken. Definitely the contract is now an albatross and the team needs to move on from 26. The season is going sideways after a hot start, and the jury is still out if they can even secure a playoff spot. 9-11 in the last 20 is not trending the right direction.
If this team makes the playoffs, likely they don't go to far leaving the door open to get picks and prospects to re-build as we know PLD has one foot out the door, 26 needs to find a new home, Ehlers should bring a good haul, Helle another big haul.
Pionk, Schmidt need new homes, maybe Dillon. |

Leafs get McCabe and Lafferty. Amazing how Dubas can get all these players when he was pretty close to the cap going in. The future is now for the Leafs !
The trade :
Maple Leafs’ 1st in 2025 (top 10 protected), 2nd in 2026, Joey Anderson and Pavel Gogolev coming back.
Blackhawks send Jake McCabe, Sam Lafferty, a 5th in 2024 and a 5th in 2025 to Toronto.
Also hear NYR will get Kane right at trade deadline due to reducing his cap value as long as possible while running at minimum roster this week. |

- I don't think Heiola made much difference.
- Stanley played more in first 40 games and very little since due to injury.
- Correct on bottom six not scoring but they are essentially the same guys.
- Team did work harder in first half....an obvious motivation problem or falling back to old habits and systems. No wonder Maurice left when he did. Bowness might be having the same problem now.
- I think Ehlers is a problem ( Wheeler been also for a while for 75% of the games)
I believe the biggest problem is that the Jets won a lot of one-goal games , OT games, and comeback wins in the first half. They might not have been as good as they looked and now due to not playing the new system the proper way and getting sloppy they are losing . Those squeaky wins are now losses.
I see no way they are going to beat the beefed-up teams in the east. They don't stand a chance in a 7 games series against the Leafs, Hurricanes, Devils, Bruins, and likely NYR. They also were totally outclassed by a relatively healthy Avalanche. Short of getting Karlsson or Chychryn , plus Schmaltz , Chevy might as well throw in the towel . |

I don't think that Lowry, as much as your disdain for him comes clearly through and you like everyone else is frustrated, is the biggest problem for this team. 3rd line or 4th line, look at the slugs he plays with. Kuhlman, Malenaiean, Appelton, etc, none of them have any scoring touch. Gagne has a few points, Gustafson can't stay in the lineup and when he is in, produces nothing.
I do however agree with you that a GM has to be better than what is being offered today. You bet he needs to think outside the box but I have to wonder if Chipman is too involved watching his pennies? I mean, whats the point having a franchise here if you are basically a Montreal Expo's type of team? In the leaque but totally incapable of competing due to the conditions of small mkt, #1 on the no trade list etc, etc.
His asset mgmt is not good, any player with a long term contract is basically married to the team and can't be traded to bolster picks or prospects, drafting outside the 1st like you say is horrible, except maybe Samberg, and seems to only make deals when forced.
So, I threw in the towel on this mgtm group.
Like Jet Fuel said, it is the same team as last year sans Stats and new coaching. |

If the Jets are facing Eastern Conference teams in the playoffs that means they made the final. Giving more reason to go all-in. |

This is the excuse I have been hearing for Lowry over the past 7 years. He is a 4th line energy player/penalty killer and nothing more. If he needs players around him to make him better then why don’t just get those players and dump Lowry? It is clear that he does not make players around him better.

I will quote Jet Fuel here.
"This team only has four legit top 6 players, Perfetti and Wheeler are 3rd liners, Appleton is a 3rd liner and the rest are 4th liners or AHLers, sorry but thats not the lineup of a champion. The D core is middling at best and even thats a stretch, Helle isn't a miracle worker!"
I would argue with Jet Fuel however that Appelton is a 4th liner. Never could figure out why they traded for him to come back here. |

Sorry,
I’m no longer all in!! Chipman doesn’t have the balls to go all in. And make no mistake Chipman makes all the decisions. Chevy is just a middle man with no power,
Trade them all!!

Helle
Wheels
Stanely
All of them…..
You’ll get more now than at the draft!!
Just do it and stop pretending to be trying to win, you clearly are not |

Chevy has got the best job in the world and after Poile retires will be the second longest serving GM in the league. Love all the banners that are hanging from the rafters during his reign….

I agree. And, add Ehlers, Lowry, Heinola, Gus, etc. Keep Connor as you need to put some a$$'s in the seats.
