Late. But better than never.
Going to be interesting to see how the pairings work and who is going to sit.
Surprise myself by thinking maybe there is a place for Hamonic on this team next year. Sens numbers still look really good for next year. And, if Hamonic takes a discount to resign, it would be a great depth add. He is solid in the dressing room and with the young guys. - spatso
Chabot Zub
Sanderson Chychrun

It will be interesting to see how things shape out. Will he play with Chabot or Sanderson? Or develop a system with one of Chabot, Chychrun, and Sanderson are always out there on the left side? Will be interesting. Also Chychrun has not played a lot of hockey this year. Some rust might be reasonable to see early on. Great move of the future of the franchise. Let's face it, the picks the Sens are giving up are not going to be ready to contribute with this current squad. Chychrun at his age is essentially a 1st rounder in itself.
Short term vision, if a playoff run is wanted, would be nice to see a quality, cheap forward picked up to slot easily on the 3rd line.
Bring on the Rangers. |

Don't mind the player. Don't mind the price. Like the message it sends to the team and fans just after the two big wins vs Det. He eats minutes which keeps Chabot fresh. And i like we take him away from Pitt, who we are chasing. May not push them into the playoffs this year but u can dream
The only thing I don't like is the fact he is not a true RHD. And that we should have done it in the summer.
No more excuses for DJ. |

36 games, 7 goals 21 assists for 28 points and a +8 on a bottom 3 team.
as for those who said he is/was injured often, so was Chabot

Is the default assumption that we'll be seeing Chabot-Chychrun as the top-pairing? It will be interesting to see if they stick with Sanderson-Hamonic, and put Brannstrom-Zub together, given that Brannstrom is quite often paired with Zub when Chabot is injured. It's maybe not what you'd do if you were in training camp, but given that they're mid-season you have to consider whether you really want to scramble all 3 D-pairings at the same time. - khawk
Challenging. I was thinking they might ease Chychrun into the line up by pairing him with Brannstrom. Sanderson and Hamonic have been solid. The better Sanderson gets, the more we see Hamonic providing solid support.

In terms of defence pairings, I would definitely put Chycrun with Chabot. Chabot has not had great chemistry with Zub according to the corsi stats. My pairings for the rest of this season:
Chabot Chycrun
Sanderson Hamonic
Holden/Brannstrom Zub |

Is this a reverse of the Duchene trade? A player rumored to be traded for a long time, only this time the GM waited too long, and got less than they were worth. And with Ottawa.
Arizona may have over played their hand. They fet they had to trade him this year, but had too high an ask, and all their potential trade partnrs made other trades, so they were left with less than what they could have had. |

100% - if this was the asking price the whole time, the deal would have been made in the summer. ARI was pretty clearly trying to get something like a Pinto, a 1st round pick, and another pick/prospect, and thought someone might go over the top if they held on long enough. Worked against them in this case, though at the same time it may have cost the Senators a playoff appearance in the process.

Arizona overplayed their hand and needed to trade him in order to continue with the tank in a draft with a very high top end that run 4 or 5 players deep. The plus side for Arizona is that the Ottawa pick has a very high probability of being a top 16 pick.
If you go back to the Mark Stone trade at the draft, I think it came down to Dorion holding out for too high a price, with teams walking away and Dorion staring into the abyss. Brannstrom was the best that he could do in the end. In my view, the proudest day of my life comment was in response to the relief he felt in patching a deal together at the last minute.

The Mark Stone for Erik Brannstrom trade was finalized around 15 minutes before the trade deadline. I have always felt that Dorion had pushed for too high a return and the teams interested in Mark Stone traded for different players instead. When the market collapsed, Dorion was left scrambling for any kind of decent return. Brannstrom, to him was the last minute deal that got him that decent/solid return to show to the owner and fanbase. The "proudest day of my life" comment was said after a highly stressful few hours to patch together the trade. That has always been my opinion or take on the comments. |

Very clear now OTT not needing ARIZ to take money swung Chychrun in their favour. |

that is why Dorion traded zeitsev to CHI when he did, to remove the cap o he can take Chych without having to send Zeitsev to ARI |

Hope he fits in well! I hope Sens pull off a mini-hamburglar.
17 of Chychrun's points were on 5-on-5. Hopefully he helps there.
Also helps that another D can be on the PP. Chabot is usually the only D on the PP most days. |

Dorion did such a good job he demolished the Sabre thread. Multiple bans have gone down. It cats and dogs over there. |

Liking this more and more, especially in not givong up a roster player or something from the prospect pool. To think in the summer some of us thought it would tale Grieg or Pinto and one of JBD or Thomson PLUS a first to get this done. |

I just hope Chychrun doesn't go 'Talbot' on us and wants to GTFO in a year's time. Also hoping his past injuries don't catch up to him too fast. |

If he does, you trade him for something similar to what we gave up or better.
This is a serious underpay like the cat deal.
If things go sideways, flip him. This is very good asset management. |
