crazy how we all lived this collective dream yesterday about a fictional hockey player Timo Meier being trade to the Devils. - Pomegrant
I guess this means no Bedard? This all seems so foreign to me. This is the time of year I am usually looking at every article on draft prospects I can find. I just don’t know what to do. |

We have Timo Meier. Not Boeser, not Garland, not Niederreiter.. not nobody but the big fish. |

Great news. Its all good. It'll happen.
I cannot believe Nico, Jack, Bratt, Timo, Hamilton all locked up.
Luke and Nemec soon.
Hopefully Holtz gets more time.
We will be the new Tampa Bay.

Prior to this, he was asked what other area he'd like to add. His response: "I'd like to get a little grittier, and i'd like to build some depth. I'd like to see if I could create some cap space to do more things first. So thats what I'm working on now, some different ideas with teams." |

This is exactly who I immediately thought of, especially after seeing what Tanner Jeannot got in a trade yesterday. Will be interesting to see what else Fitz does and if he can work out some deals in the next few days. |

Question for all you north jeresy (bergen county specific) Devil fans.
Is there a solid "Devils" Bar in the area? It's hard enough to get hockey on TVs at times. Then, its having to compete with Ranger fans for the TV..... just wondering if anyone knows a good spot to watch games at. |

In a piece with Ryan Novo, Fitz says they have "plenty of room" to sign Bratt and Meier, and he believes that several upcoming free agent players could potentially "reprice themselves" to stay with the Devils. And when speaking about the upcoming salary impacts Fitz says, "We've done our projections. Those margins might shift here and there. My team has done a really good job with the projection of what certain salaries will look like...we've got a pretty good handle on it. I believe the core is the obvious, and adding to them, we can do that. The cap will go up. We've got that in our back pocket."
I believe this is Novo speculation, but he said Nick Bjugstad and Max Domi are two players to keep your eye on who fit the mold of what Fitz is looking for before the deadline. |

Love the confidence in his process - so far it has panned out.
I'd take either of those guys at the deadline if they could be had for cheap. They would be an upgrade over anyone currently on our 4th line.

Fitz is talking about Severson and taking a discount. If Severson does this, it's huge in my book and it would endear him to all the fans regardless of his brain dead moments. I'd have no issue signing sev to 3x8 with a NTC to sweeten the deal. His talents on the 3rd pair at 3 mil would be a perfect scenario for him and the team. I'd love for him to stay, but can't be for more than he already makes.
Would be like Dano staying with one team his whole career. Playing through the bad and good. Ultimately paying off towards the end. |

Mostly Fitz has done a good job with getting all of the players who aren't part of the core to have their contracts expire this season. Gives him a lot of space to work with, which you spend on getting the big contracts done and then you fill up the rest of the roster with cheap young talent as well as depth players in FA who want to win cups and will play for cheap. |

Theres no world Sevo signs for 3M lol, even if he took a discount. His discount would be closer to 4.5-5M, because he probably gets ~6 on the open market.. Could be Sevo, could also be Graves and/or Tatar too. |

You might think that's crazy, but if he's offered 3-4 yr deals, getting 8 yr guarantee and also knowing you'll never get traded from a perennial cup contender could mean more to some people. I'd like to think someone like that exists.
But who knows what these players care about these days. But with that statement from Fitz, he's clearly setting the standard early pre-negotiations, saying they'll have to take less to stay, otherwise see ya later alligator. |

Well yeah, that's obvious with the fact that Hughes and Nemec are in the wings and will be full time NHLers in the near future. This reason alone is why I think Sevo is gone no matter what, even if he would take a big discount. He just blocks Nemec, with Dougie and Marino ahead of him. Graves is the one I really think that statement is about, because he and Luke can both fit on the roster long term.
I think their plan if it goes according to what they want is to roll out a D next year of:
Siegs-Dougie
Luke-Marino
Graves-Nemec
Definitely risky running two rookies, and it requires Graves to take a discount and for Nemec to actually be ready for a full time role. Smith/Bahl as the insurance I guess, maybe they add another depth D in free agency too just to be safe(especially if both Graves/Sevo leave). |
