All this wont matter if the top 4 dont turn it on in playoffs. - Fakepartofme
I know we all hate Simmonds but he nailed this point the other day in his article. The stats are pretty bad for our "best" players. |

Either one, Engvall or Kerfoot.. One of them has to go.. Once Murray is back, the Leafs are over the cap..
So, someone is being moved..
I suppose the could try to waive ZAR, but even that's not going to be enough - PatC80
According to Siegel, only by $1M:
"The Leafs will be approximately $1 million over the cap whenever Matt Murray is activated off of LTIR, which means another move (trade or waivers) is coming." |

Can one trade put the Leafs under the CAP and also have enough room for Knies when he's finished school?
'Cause if it can't, it'll probably be 2 traded. |

I haven't fully back read but great trade! Fills the line up in quite nicely. I could bump a line up I posted a while back that had McCabe and Lafferty in it but I'll just do another.
Lafferty can replace Kerfoot or Engvall. If I had to guess it's Kerfoot since he's the higher $ and Engvall can slide back down to the 4th line or out the (frank)ing door for all I care.
Lets go with Kerfoot to Van for Schenn + 2nd. Clears enough for Murray and gets us a pick back.
Bunting, Matthews, Marner
Tavares, RoR, Nylander
Lafferty, Kampf, Jarnkrok
Engvall, Acciari, ZAR
Holmberg
Reilly, Brodie
McCabe, Lily
Gio, Schenn
Sandin, Holl
Samsonov
Murray
That's (frank)ing NOICE!!! GLG!!! - underhill14
Schenn is not a legit Top 6 d-man. Even TBL used him sparingly when they had him (he played 19 of 49 playoff games with very limited mins).
Jordie Benn as our #9 is fine if we need some grrrrrit.
If Dubas feels like Murray is irrevocably broken, he'll need to make a G trade. Here' shoping Matt will be okay come post-season time. |

I know Kerfoot is from Vancouver, but even with that fact, there's no way in hell Vancouver accepts him in a trade, let alone also giving up a pick.
Vancouver will only take pieces for their rebuild. A UFA means nothing to them. |

Apparently he can play both. - Atomic Wedgie
He almost never does - and not with as much success.
This year he has been almost exclusively left-side.
Last year he did have some time on the right side - with Caleb Jones and Calvin DeHaan - but that was maybe 200 minutes out of the year (he was +1 with both, but that was in more sheltered minutes). He also played up with Seth Jones and Murphy while spending over 800 minutes on the left side - when playing in the line-up he was absolutely murdered (-26 with those two), but again he has been better this year.
Even if he ends up being a 3rd pair guy, we have him at only $2m and he is a very effective defenseman against lower calibre competition. |

A decent trade. It makes a forward and a defenseman expendable. Don't worry about the lost picks, they can be recouped after the season, when the Leafs decide to move away from some of their players who underperform. When the Leafs realize that they're not getting a hometown discount from Willy or Austin, Willy is probably gone and draft picks will be forthcoming. The Leafs will probably allocate some of the saved money in keeping O'Reilly and pick off another middle 6 winger in free agency. The Leafs will not keep Nylander for the simple reason that they don't want to lose him for nothing. It's too bad that the Leafs couldn't get the agents for Matthews, Nylander and Marner in the same room and drop $34M on the table and say hash it out and everyone gets a new contract. Better to take the money sooner than later with the loss of revenue coming out of the Bally fiasco and their looming bankruptcy. Teams need to get smart and stop going with the conglomerate Sports Networks and either build a model for their team only or join an established company that's been around for a while. |

Lafferty is a real good edition..20 points in 31 games since he came back from a back injury this season.
Back injury history is scary but if he is healthy he seems like a big bottom 6 upgrade.
Also, Leafs need an insurance goalie or need to move Murray. Can't go into the playoffs relying on him not being fragile. He was great early in the season and looked unbeatable at times but there is too much uncertainty.
Sammy has won the starting job with his play for me. |

Bally Sports Network started as the Fox Sports Network in the mid-1990s.
You really think the Arizona Coyotes are going to build their own network?
And will it come on before or after LIV Golf?
