I think that sounds spot on Dozzer.

Edit: although I would argue you on Timmins. He's gonna surprise a few, I have a feeling.

Fair enough but I’m basing it off his last few games… offensively good, but has a large number of defensive mistakes.

He’s going to grow into something better but not by this years post season.

id think Kerfoot is the one to go and probably Holl
makes enough room for Murray and Knies

wonder if Duby is saving the 2024 1st for one more move

- senstroll

I think Kerfoot would give them enough room on his own

Which forward do you think sits Wednesday?

Normally I would think Keefe would be looking to try what the playoff starting lineup would be but I could see him being asked to play the guy Dubas might move.

Or do you think they’ll do that against Calgary?

Whatever happens, if anything, will likely be tomorrow or on the deadline day because I can’t see it being Wednesday or Thursday since those are game days… well maybe late on Thursday after the game.. I’m sure you get what I’m saying

Engvall for trade related reason ...

don't want him to get hurt or anything like that.

Is Jeannot really having an "off year"? That statement is based on one year's experience. There is 50/50 chance that last year was the fluke.

So with the arms race tightening up (let's assume Kane goes to NYR), what the hell is Carolina going to do?

JVR? Boeser? Schmaltz (apparently he's available)?

- AdamFrench

Bingo has been reallllllly quiet.

Kerfoot for a 1st or gtfo.

Yeah - this is a team that's typically looking for Offensive help, but I can't think of who they would get that would give them that edge. Domi II: Maximum Redux.

I can't think of any obvious target that moves the needle for them.

This would be a dream acquisition. Goaltending would finally be solidified. Thats not a slight on Samsonov, its just that Saros is an elite goalie.

I get the argument but what if it’s 2-3 teams interested and having him play is the only way to get them to drive up their offer?

It’s going to be an interesting next couple of days.

I don’t think it’s about having him traded to the leafs at all and he’s just talking about some pictures he keeps beside his bed

I don’t think there will be offers to drive up. We’ll pay someone to take the cap off our hands.

Engvall and/or Kerfoot definitely has value. Might not be a lot, but some.

Not sure whether McCabe is closer to Muzzin or to Holl - we'll find out soon enough - but if he's a legit top 4 defender and locked in at $2M for 2+ years ....that's the real win in this trade. That's huge in terms of filling out the roster in a poopty cap world.

Are there playoff teams with that $ available that would spend it on them? If not, they sit on a non playoff team’s roster till the season is over and then they’re free agents. At this point in season, I don’t know who is looking for one of them.

I think you get a mid rounder for Engvall but if not then you just waive him (or anybody else without a NMC) to the Ahl. You save $1.2M of his contract if nobody grabs him. Bob's my uncle.

There are some teams that still need an "add" of some kind. Maybe Kerfoot still has some middle six appeal to Avs (they've been quiet) or Seattle or LA. Calgary is looking for help on the wing. Leafs could even eat some Cap (up to ~1.5M) and still have room to call up one of the kids to be the new 13th FWD.

Praise be to Dubas:

Kerfoot's contract for this year: salary of $2,700,000.

$1,950,000 in signing bonus.

$750,000 in base salary.

He has a 10-team NTC, but other than that, it would be very easy to give him away for a bag of pucks.

Here's a decent way to look at it - Jeannot is generating about the same number of shots as he has in his audition year, his rookie year, and this year - 1.5 shots / game. His ice time is basically unchanged. His utilization is unchanged - roughly the same 5v5 deployment and 2nd team PP minutes (30 seconds / game). For the most part he has played with Sissons and Trenin both this year and last.

His shooting percentage has dropped from an unsustainable 19.4% last year to 5.7% this year. If he were scoring at the same rate as last year, he would actually be bang-on pace for another 24 goal in an 81 game season.

Here's the thing about Tampa's system - it works for some guys - Nick Paul left Ottawa with a career high 9.6% shooting percentage and an average of 7.0%. He has had an average of 17.6% in Tampa. Comparatively - Blake Coleman's 11.5% in Tampa ties his career high mark (some other guys like Goodrow and Maroon didn't or haven't fared poorly in Tampa, but they did execute better elsewhere).

If you took a slightly above average shooting percentage for Jeannot of 14%, you could probably put him in around 18 goals / year in Tampa. It's a drastic overpayment, but it is a piece they feel they need - and truth be told you could throw all 5 of those picks at the wall and probably not come out of it with a player offering them what Jeannot does.
