Why would Bettman do that? He gave Edmonton McDavid, then gave Tor Matthews. Both teams are still a failure. Mtl would be next if Bedard went there. - powerenforcer
Nah they got the number one pick the year after going to the cup final, they’re fine. Everyone knows the league does better when Chicago is good. Montreal and Toronto buzz no matter what, here it’s not. Our attendance has been surprisingly resilient but not exactly buzzing in each town. I want the conspiracy theory to be true and watch our magnetically loaded ping pong ball get sucked up to that lotto slot. I’m not ready for April. |

What has he done for his prospect pool to be touted? You are aware that the evaluator was using Bowman's picks to help form his opinion, right?
I will wait for you to appeal to authority. - Elbows15
I’m aware and I’m glad he realized dach needed to be sold high. Debrincat sold high. Lafferty. Hagel. By the time they are good all of the above are either a shell of themselves or far too costly if they ever figure it out. He got a 2nd for taking on some hack defender. A 1st for McCabe. A2nd for laffferty both equal to what he asked for. Got more than tape for 8. Still has domi. Maybe more to dangle.
They are accruing picks. You said yourself gms don’t know jack so why not give professional evaluators multiple runs at guessing where a kids ceiling hits..3-4 years down the road?
It’s a long game now. You want to be pissed off go blame rocky Wirtz and McDonough and bowman who milked every $0.01 out of the core they could until they finally realized it was time to pivot and by then it was far too late. Nobody held a gun to Stanley “accounting wiz of the class of 1994 notre dame” bowmans head to give full nmc to guys who’s deals end in mid 30s and all signs pointed to playing a ton more playoff hockey? Great future planning there.
Biggest lesson this last month….never again give out a nmc. Term/aav. Sure. Nmc? Not a chance in hell. You eliminate all options

3 of the top 5 prospects or so are from guys KD just drafted. He also has one draft under his belt. Kind of silly to crap on the guy when he’s doing something that’s long overdue. |

He gets moved at next year's deadline if he's not injured. I'm guessing Seth wears the C if Toews is gone next year. They put him out there for the last ceremonial puck drop, so that sounds like a sign to me. Should they draft Bedard, all bets are off. |

GMs don't hand out NMCs for the hell of it, players and agents use them in negotiations. I'm pretty sure GMs hate NMCs as much as we the fans do. This is only a guess, but maybe a GM gets an extra $5M under the cap needed to fill out his roster by handing out NMCs rather than paying the salary requested by players X and Y. |

A late night deal has not popped up on most sites, but reportedly Kings acquire Korpisalo and Gavrisov with Quick going the other way. The report merely highlighted the components of the trade; I would guess a first round maybe ‘23 goes to Columbus. Yes, Kings traded their legendary goaltender who isn’t too good any longer. Maybe he will eventually sign a one day contract and retire as a Kings player
Perhaps Kane one day signs a one day Blackhawks contract too!
Anyway next: where does Chychrun land. Darn Toronto looks likely
ADD; A surprise suitor which makes sense is Carolina. You can say it is a trade keeping up with the Jones’ after other opponents in their Conference stepped up. However Carolina likes to have more skill, best athletes even more speed and overwhelm teams with their superior roster. So so I imagine that Chychrun would fit their mold on defense. Carolina has some prospects and young NHL players but I am not sure their own draft choices remain |

As I suspected, over the Kane trade now. Still think he screwed them a bit, but as others have said, he had a NMC, he can use it how he wants.
Serious question though, is a #1 next year or '25 better than a #2 this year? I guess future #1 is better as Rangers could have something go terribly wrong and be bad for a year.
Does anyone know what the conditions that make the #1 in '24 or '25?
Regardless there is still a petty part of me that will LOL if the Rags get bounced in 1st series, and Kane and Panarin repeat their performance against Nashville. |

You know that could well happen - it feels like the Rangers dropped all of their eggs in the offense basket. Kane definitely doesn't make them better defensively; add to the mix if pouty Kane shows up (which can and has happened when things don't go how he had them in his head ...) - I don't know --- the dispassionate part of me thinks this trade won't do much for the Rangers either way. Sure it will make their #10 happier -but I am not sure if a happier Panarin is more effective or not. He has been one of those nice pieces to have - but when it comes to crunch time in the post season -he hasn't been much of a factor outside of his teams winning a couple of series -- but never anything that comes with any silverware.
I don't actually know if there was anything on the market (or is still) that actually would be able to make much of a difference. Happy to be wrong - loved watching Panarin and Kane in the past --- think the Hawks should have built around a Panarin Kane model -but that ship sailed some years ago. Would have at least have made for interesting hockey games, if nothing else (and of course it probably would not have been anything else). Wasted personnel decisions. And just really like adding a strobe light to the dance floor of the Titanic ... flashy, but without point in the end.

If the Hawks get lucky and get Bedard, they will sign two or three free agents(not long term), they will bring up a couple of defensemen, one of their young goalies, and they will win some games(a guy can dream). Basically better than this year. Hope that happens because last night was unwatchable. |

Well, hopefully the Chicago Icehogs can do what they can to give us a very good shot at Bedard. However, I am looking forward to watching Reichel if and when he does get recalled. Plus, I don't think KD is done...I assume Domi, AA, and Stalock are the most likely shipped out by Friday. Stack up on some more early-to-mid round picks.
If we do end up with Bedard, I think it cuts about 2-3 years off the rebuild and it will allow KD to go after more top/middle-6 forwards and a top-4 pairing LHD in Free Agency. Also doesn't rule out the possibility of Kane returning, however, I think now that the band-aid is off you just let him go for good.
If we end up with Fantilli or others, I expect the 4-5 year rebuild to continue on course with KD using a similar approach to the off-season as last year with middle/bottom-6 forward and bottom-pairing dmen type of signings.
At the end of the day, you gotta commend Richardson for the work he and his staff have done this year with a JV roster. He seems like the right guy to usher in the new era of Hawks hockey. The next few years should be exciting for us fans. |

Where does this poop come from? His whole game is generating points. He's got 44pts in 50 career playoff games. Kane has 132 in 136.
He was a point per game in 2016 when they played the Blues, and had one point the year the entire team got embarrassed by NSH. Do we just throw out the fact that he was on average teams until recently?
