Depends on how much he likes playing with Panarin and what type contract he will want. He will not be back with Rangers if he wants more than 3Mx 3 yrs - hfc355

He's a good player, and this is part of the process of the rebuild, try to sign good players on 1 year deals and trade them at the deadline for picks and prospects. KD seems shrewd enough to do this. - BetweenTheDots
Why is this part of the process with a rebuild? Having a mercenary come in and at the TDL say I want to go elsewhere where I can win instead of this team? i suppose you would make him captain too?

With what was going on with the Beach incident, who knows if the pivot didn't come from Wirtz ? - LAHawk
Have been saying/wondering that all along. It’s a weird thing to say or at least hint you’re rebuilding, then spend the Summer trading a high draft pick and making some splash trades/signings like their contenders.
We’ll never know but I still think those moves were made to stave off the impending poop storm they knew was coming due the Beach situation.
I think the Wirtz’s thought that if the team was doing well it would minimize some of the eventual blowback…all speculation and my .02. |

Why so sensitive? You're just lashing out now. So he signed Domi and AA to 1 year deals to keep here? Although it is looking that way.
As most say, it's not personal it's just business. |

The Hawks are a hockey team, not a daycare center. I sure wouldn't want to be the coach trying to build a culture, and have someone who you know could care less about the team just there so he can pick where he wants to go to play in the playoffs.

It wouldn't offer him a NMC? He'd have to go where KD trades him |

I waffled a bit on bringing him back and at certain points thought it was a good idea.
Have come around to your way of thinking. Would rather they sign some vets to help shepherd whatever kids matriculate from RFD.
Let them build their own culture without the specter of the past to hang onto. |

I would think that. Look at last night, yes they lost. But they looked more like a team
then they ever did with Colliton, even with 2 guys who were barely there a day, and 2 career AHL players.
Full disclosure I was one of those that for most of his time here, said it was the players and not JC. I was dead wrong. The way LR (and his staff, have to give them credit too) have handled this year, both on the ice and off, no wonder Domi wanted to come here to play for LR. - LAHawk
Me too, that's why I'm so impressed with Luke.
Again, I believe culture and doing things right is as big of a factor during a full rebuild. |

I think if you told Quenneville in 2017 that Murphy would not only be extended for more than league minimum, but wear an A for this franchise… he’d probably laugh for a solid five minutes. How far we’ve fallen. - ObeseOprah

I'd be fine with them signing Kane to a 1 year deal. With the understanding I'm going to trade you at the deadline, would Kane do it? Blackhawks have lots of money to spend? - BetweenTheDots

Where can he go? Cap goes up a whopping $1 million per team, he's not getting any younger. - BetweenTheDots
And evidentially, he can't sign anywhere that his dad can't drive to.......

Per Ben Pope: Chicago Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson on pending UFAs Max Domi and Andreas Athanasiou: “We didn’t sign them just to be traded. We signed them because we liked them as players… It’s a business, so we have to do our due diligence. We’ll see what comes, but nothing planned right now.”

So you would sign a 3 year $12 million dollar deal instead of 1 year at $8 mil?
He'd be traded to a contender anyways. - BetweenTheDots
There are quite a few large expiring contracts after this season that will create cap room. Plus teams like the Hawks over the summer could take on a large expiring contract (with other assets) freeing up some room. I would expect Kane to try for $8 mil plus minus for 2 or 3 years plus minus. Maybe less dollars for more term or vice versa. It depends on how he and his team finish this season. He will not want to be a vagabond or relocate his family every year.

He can stay with the Rangers 3 x 3. It is apparent winning trumps all. He is (should be) set for life, I doubt his decision has anything to do about money now - LAHawk
I just don't see Kane or Brisson settling for $3mil. |

Finally. I was waiting for someone to suggest the Wings. I have been wondering is SY would swoop in and work him. Detroit is 1/2 as far from Buffalo as Chicago is so his dad could drive that no problem.

The analogy was him signing something like an incentive-laden 1-year $4mil deal to a contender like Vegas, NYR, Car, TB, etc. for another Cup shot and then signing a 4-year $24-28mil deal with Buffalo to finish his career. His style of play will allow him to play at a high-caliber for the next 5 or so years. - chitownfan92
He will be 35 in November. He is a small guy that has a lot of miles. No way I give him 4 years at $6 mil a year in the summer of 2024 when he will be turning 36. I would give him 2 years at $7 mil or 3 years at a lower cap hit (maybe $5 mil).

It’s very hard to compare the two GMs. Yes to this point KD is showing to be much more adept at drafting and building a team, although he hasn’t built a team just yet. Also part of building has an element of luck, ie: drafting first overall and getting a potential superstar, finding a gem later in the draft and getting a Duncan Keith. Bowman balanced cap problems while finding the right guys to win an additional two championships. Bowman’s task wasn’t to stock pile the prospect cupboard, but to try to keep winning. KD is tasked with building a team from the ground up. - paulr
We don't know anything about KD's drafting? Don't forget Stan drafted Terrvainien, Schmaltz, Danault, Ryan what's his name. All with fairly late first round picks.

They may have liked them when they signed them, but they cannot be liking AA now. I would say no chance that he is resigned (especially at $3 mil). I would be fine with Domi coming back. (Also would be fine trading him for a 2nd round pick in 2023 or the future.) |

I stand corrected. That KD had me completely fooled, i guess we'll be hearing about Domi's 5 x $5 contract soon.
