Jhawk, I just wanna remind everyone that not missing the playoffs for 6 straight yrs or any hockey decisions cost StanBow his job it was all the Beach thing. In fact, it's important to remember that Rocky's boy was so enamored by not making the playoffs for 6 straight yrs, the hiring of Colliton by Stan and having a bottom rated prospect pipeline he EXTENDED and PROMOTED Stan the summer before the Beach story broke!
Think about that. This was the hockey side brain trust, promoting and extending Stan! ....... To endup with KD and LR being hired by that same brain trust in the aftermath is seemingly heaven sent, a stroke of incredible luck or both.
The book is still very much unwritten, but I could not have hoped for more from KD, LR, the plan along with any new hockey ops people.
- Mr Ricochet
Hello, Rico. I come in peace....
No need to rehash all the intricacies of the Stan experience; but I think there's something we learned about ownership in that last six years. They showed patience in their guy. I think they will show similar patience with KD. That's a good thing, imo; especially because I agree that KD is doing it right. Doing it right will take lots of patience. Seems like they can evaluate talent pretty well; they'll also need some luck in that area (just like every talent evaluator in every sport). More picks increases the odds.
One day I still want to have a beer at a Steel game.
- mohel
Hey, Mo. Not sure why you needed to qualify your post. Conceding my memory is horrid I do know during the Beach "debate" I was as silent over a longer period of time ever here at HB and as far as the StanBow debate my position was only on his last 6 yrs.
You either win or build a pipeline and he failed at both. I'm not talking about deep playoff runs either, as far as winning, just make the damn tournament. What scares me about that is the brain trust rewarded him for that with a promotion and extension and that same brain trust is still in place.
I posted I thought Danny and Co would hire KD as GM, path of least resistance, and was ok with that as long as he hired an experienced hockey mind above him as prez.......... My biggest concern, but much less now after seeing KD operate, was who the hockey mind was/is at the top of the of the organizational pyramid. I think that worry/concern was justified that a first time 30 something GM, and those who decided Stan's work the last 6 yrs warranted a promotion and extension, were the top of the hockey mind pyramid.
As mentioned I'm much less concerned now after seeing KD formulate a plan and is executing it. Whether or not the plan fails or succeeds is less relevant to me than simply having and executing an ORGANIZATIONAL plan, something the last 6 yrs under Stan was absent.
As far as the Steel, sure, drop me a line and I'll meet you there, but you don't need me to experience a first rate jrs organIzation. For 10 bucks a ticket, zero to park, 3 bucks a beer, 2 bucks a hot dog, go on a day when your kids can skate with the Steel for free after the game and see a team that develops 1st overall NHL picks. .... Go see the U-18's and you'll see 10-15 NHL picks that very game.
By the way Celebrini scored 5 goals the other day. Kid is ahead of Fantilli their 16yr old years. Kid is crazy good. |

He will be 35 in November. He is a small guy that has a lot of miles. No way I give him 4 years at $6 mil a year in the summer of 2024 when he will be turning 36. I would give him 2 years at $7 mil or 3 years at a lower cap hit (maybe $5 mil). - -Doh-
Some team will pony up the money. He still has the capability to produce 60-70 points a season with the right linemates and that's worth $6mil a year to some GM. Plus, whether he has miles or not, his soft-style of play is going to allow him to produce at a semi-high level until he's 40. |

I stand corrected. That KD had me completely fooled, i guess we'll be hearing about Domi's 5 x $5 contract soon. - BetweenTheDots
I could see 2-3 x $5M. |

We’ve seen what Kane can do when he’s motivated, just like last week. He can easily be a point per game player given a decent line mate. He’s been well over a point per game for the last seven years. |

Well I’m very glad he saved his job and won two additional Cups. And like you I’m very disappointed he was unable to draft well and stock up prospects to give the team additional depth. And it’s unfortunate that, unlike Boston, he wasn’t able to get the core players to sign smaller contracts to be able to ensure there was room available for additional better depth players.
At the end of the day I’m happy to have experienced the best and most successful decade in Blackhawk history. And like it or not, Bowman was a big part of that. - paulr
Its time to move on from Stanbo's era. he did some very good things overall and some stuff that now doesn't look very good on his resume - not only the Kyle Beach thing but getting hosed in trade deals. He became like a guy with too much money in his pocket and an ego that didn't seem concerned about overpaying on contracts and in player transactions. Stanbo and Q are now participants in the NHL Rehab Clinic because they both want to come back, we"ll see what happens from that.
I am now far more concerned about KD and the dark and sinister relationship that seems to have evolved between him and Kyle Dumbass. Both of these guys are from Northern Ontario and it seems like KD wants to help the Leafs out of every salary cap straightjacket they get themselves in. He takes useless Mrazek back to to move up 14 spots in the draft, he lets Dubas dump 2 AHL stiffs on him in the trade yesterday. What's next - taking Kyle Clifford, Alex Kerfoot or David Kampf back to help Dubas even more this week?
KD needs to be monitored closely for conflict of interest issues. I'm thinking he is a closet Leaf fan from his days of growing up in Sudbury and will never forgive him if I determine he has assisted the Leafs to win even 1 playoff series.

He can stay with the Rangers 3 x 3. It is apparent winning trumps all. He is (should be) set for life, I doubt his decision has anything to do about money now - LAHawk
I just do not see him accepting a 3M deal. My guess it will be at least twice that. |

What if Pat Brisson tells Kaner "its OK by me Patrick if you want to play with your BFF Panarin for $8.6M per year less than he makes". |

Have been saying/wondering that all along. It’s a weird thing to say or at least hint you’re rebuilding, then spend the Summer trading a high draft pick and making some splash trades/signings like their contenders.
We’ll never know but I still think those moves were made to stave off the impending poop storm they knew was coming due the Beach situation.
I think the Wirtz’s thought that if the team was doing well it would minimize some of the eventual blowback…all speculation and my .02. - HawkintheD
It never worked because Colliton was a horrible NHL coach…
Think if LR was coaching that group the results would be different?
Possibly/ maybe….
Watching him “coach” it clearly was not working, yet he was still behind the bench…
Heck, if it wasn’t for the Beach episode, he and Stan could still be employed…
Think about that…
Ugh….
Exhale….

That's an interesting trade for Carolina. I think of how the Finnish presence on the team was a big boost for Teuvo, and maybe it pays off again here. All they had to give up was someone they probably weren't going to sign. No draft picks given up here. And they still have $7 mill in cap space. |

Player A was Kane’s line mate, Player B misses his feeds. Kane is still > a PPG player with the right guys on his line. |

Per Ben Pope: Chicago Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson on pending UFAs Max Domi and Andreas Athanasiou: “We didn’t sign them just to be traded. We signed them because we liked them as players… It’s a business, so we have to do our due diligence. We’ll see what comes, but nothing planned right now.” - boilermaker100
I also wonder how much interest is in them. If I'm KD i say the right things and wait till the last minute. He's earned that position with the really really good moves he's made so far.

would make sense
they have almost no picks, what about their first for our highest 2nd and our lowest 3rd.
or do a player swap. Foudy or olausson - kmw4631

I can see the Av's dealing with Domi for 2C help given Kadri's absence. Domi plays with a bit of an edge when irritated, has a great FO percentage is racking up points on the PP and top line. I can also see the Cane's going after him again given the need to keep up with the East's arm race. |

My final prediction for the Kane trade is....
Rangers receive Kane @ 50% retained (25% from both the Hawks and Coyotes), and a 2024 5th Round Pick from the Hawks.
Hawks receive Jimmy Vesey, Bobby Trivigno, a conditional 2023 2nd Round Pick (Becomes a 2024 1st if Rangers win the cup), and 2025 4th Round Pick all from the Rangers.
Coyotes retain the other 25% of Kane's contract and receive a 2024 5th Round Pick from NYR as compensation. |
