adds a different dimension than clague and bryson. and it was an nhl player for a long term prospect.
gonna have to disagree with 'lateral' - TheSabresTaco
We will have to wait and see if this is even lateral imo |

Bloom is a 19 year old big bodied winger who can shoot and can move. There is a model out there that showed Josh Bloom as 2nd line potential, I’ll see if I can find it.
That has to have more value than an AHL d-man
Vancouver just acquired Stillman and were very quick to move him.
I’m going to wait until the TDL to fully evaluate but on The surface this makes no sense. |

yeah, we can only guess at the reasoning here.
we all know all these forwards, with this young team, are probably going to have a very difficult time cracking the lineup in the next, what, 8 years?
We have 3 'A' list guys in Kulich, Savoie and Ostlund. A ton of 'B' guys in AHL and over seas. Who knows what this '23 pick is going to be. I'm fine giving up a probably bottom 6 guy, who can be bought for a few million dollars anyway, for an NHL player.
The concern, on both sides, is why is Josh Bloom, a player a lot of folks like, with a low ceiling, only be worth a depth defenseman?
We know he's probably 3 years out from ever putting on an NHL jersey, so that could be part of it. The other is like I said before, bottom 6 wingers are dime a dozen. One would just think a player like that is worth a bit more.
Apparently not. - TheSabresTaco
Here's a fun one to ponder: Who had a better chance of making it on the Sabres long term - Bloom or Rosen? |

Don't sugarcoat it Hank. Granted I don't follow the Sabres that closely but Adams seems to be doing a tremendous job with the team. I'm going to assume he knows if his team requires some sandpaper and give him the benefit of the doubt. Sabres have turned the corner. The future is brighter than it's been in quite some time. Buffalo is a town that always seems to get the short shift. Go Buffalo!! |

The Devils just used the equivalent of
Bloom
Asplund
And some other throw ins along with picks to acquire Timo Meier and a bunch of other assets.

I see where you are coming from. Sabres are going to have to use some of there better prospects in the Bottom 6. They just don't have the spots for them in there top 6 at this point. That could change over the years as they develop more. That's why I keep saying the Sabres in 2yrs will be rolling 4 lines of skill and speed. Or else you have Rochester filled with 8-10 prospects wasting away. |

Darcy whispered in GMKA ear to DO SOMETHING, and he did.
But seriously, I have no idea why that trade was made, I guess for a little grit? 7th dman that will play 5 min a night?

You got it.
There seems to be clear openings long term in 2 to 3 seasons for the 4th line, and that's where players like Bloom, Nadeau and Rousek fit.
The top 9 is super crowded with players like Quinn, Peterka, Krebs, Kulich, Savoie and Ostlund.
Where does Rosen really fit? Feels like he would need to really outperform a number of players to have a role available to him. |

I'm not too concerned about it, though it does look like a favor. All depth defensemen are depth defensemen for the same reason: they're not very good. |
