Speaking of development issues in this organization. To memory, the only 2 players to memory since 1999 that I felt developed to their highest potential were Simon Gagne and Claude Giroux. Am I wrong?
Jeff Carter as a sniper hit 40 plus once and never sniffed anything remotely close to it since. I felt Couturier took along to develop his offense. Laughton’s road to the NHL at all was a long one. Provorov and Konency I keep waiting for more from. Agree or disagree? Should we have gotten more out of these players? - SuperSchennBros
Coots was held back by Chief's lineup decisions/usage, otherwise he's easily hit his career potential. I'd argue that Laughts hit his (meager) potential too.
Guys like Sharp, JWill and Bob... if they had stayed in the Flyers system I doubt any of them would have hit their ceilings. The Flyers did Carter and Richards no favors by letting them run rampant. Dry Island came too late.

There doesn't have to be a name. The Flyers have a list of young players that would be better to give a shot to. Again, should the Flyers in their position be leaving roster spots open for young players to compete for a spot. Or taking on players like Greenway for 3M a year? Again, this is not hard. - MJL
If it's "not hard" than just name one of these players in the organization you're referring to. Literally just name one. You've had several opportunities and just keep re-typing the same sentences over and over again.
So again, I'll state that EVEN IF one of Foerster, Desnoyers, or Brink are ready for top 9 time next year, none of them are the kind of player Greenway is.

Are you sure about Couturier? He saw almost zero time in the AHL. When you have Giroux at center, nobody was gonna top G but I do think Couturier saw second line duties under Berube, no?

This roster will (hopefully) look very different this time next year in terms of personnel and cap commitments. So while I technically agree with you right now, the hope is that by next fall what your saying isn't true at all.

It will be true. The Flyers will not be significantly better next year.
The Flyers went from being last in the league to winning the Conference finals once. I'm not expecting such a drastic improvement by next season, but there needs to be a concerted effort to ice a better team next year. It seems hard to believe right now, but I want the Flyers every year to at least strive to be a bubble team if theyre not quite ready to "contend".

Different time and situation. Not going to happen. This team is looking at a 5 -10 year journey to becoming a legit contender. They can get incrementally better in those years but it's not going to be quick unless they get really lucky with a few draft picks.
If Hayes and say one of Provorov, DeAngelo, or Sanheim are moved, no one is even going to notice Greenway's +3mil because our cap situation will be vastly improved. Your concern isn't completely falling on deaf ears. I get in general what youre saying. - mochoson
Moving another player does not in any way justify acquiring Greenway. It is a mistake.
Just a reminder that there's no leash for posts that break the CoC on deadline day. People will just get a time out and you can enjoy the discussion from the sidelines. - Aaron_85

It's not necessary to name a player. The point is that the opportunity needs to be there and they shouldn't be spending that cap asset on a player like Greenway.
I would hope that they're not the kind of player that Greenway is because he's not a good player.

NO FANBASE WOULD ACCEPT A 10 YEAR REBUILD

Well to be honest, people rarely put their failures on their resume. He has to crow about something regardless of how minuscule or silly to pad their pathetic resume. And also, some people will read that and say "gosh he's done a great job" because some people are so easily coaxed into a false narrative. - RustyPipes
I can’t believe anyone could be that stupid to actually to hear those words and not call him out on it. It’s embarrassing that no one there actually questioned this rediculous statement.

He also said the team is fifth in the NHL in win-percentage improvement from last season.
That won’t excite a fan base that has seen one playoff series win in the last 11 years, including this season.
“It’s going to be a longer process than maybe what we want, but we’re starting to build the right way and integrating a lot of young players on the team,” Fletcher said.
He will be out “more than two weeks” and “we’ll have an update in three weeks,” Fletcher said on TK - wcorvette
Visions of reporters snorting their coffee out through their noses with that remark.
5th most improved at what metric ? Alcohol sales so people at the game can get through it comfortably numb?

The full quote. (not much better)
"We're not making the playoffs this year. Again, I can throw numbers all day… on a points percentage basis, I think we're the 5th-most improved team in the league. That’s nice, but we're still not good enough."

I don't have the temperament to press play. - Pelle31Forever
The quote from earlier is getting the headlines, but the standout thing for me was that Chuck basically admitted that the "retool" is dead and they've downshifted to a league-standard rebuild posture. Talked about maybe moving older guys out and getting younger, giving more prospects a chance to win a job in the lineup. All things we've wanted to hear for awhile now.
Yeah, Coots was with Read and Downie/Raffl and absolutely buried in the dzone. No PP time. Hard to score under those conditions. - Tomahawk
Flyers absolutely hurt his offensive development as he was so good defensively that they refused to put him on a scoring line and kept him on the shutdown line. Short term thinking that had long term consequences for the Flyers and Couturier.

Agree with you.
If the Flyers wanted to reclamation project, I think Tolvanen would have been a better choice when he was on waivers. No need for someone like Greenway.
