I would agree if his cap hit was double what it is. But his cap hit makes that factor negligible at best.
- MBFlyerfan

The cap hit makes it easier but it is still a factor for teams that may want a depth player for this season's playoffs but not for the next season. Future years on a contract always limit the market at the deadline to varying degrees.

Sure, but in this case I think the degree level is small. As was said he could easily be sent to the minors with no cap penalty.

With Fletcher saying today that they are sellers I’m just assuming nothing will happen this week. For other GMs, the Flyers being sellers is like driving by a garage sale that’s only selling VCRs, CRT TVs, fax machines, and broken plastic lawn furniture. They might slow down for a second and glance over, but once they see what they’re selling they just keep on driving.

No cap penalty but still takes up a contract spot. For a player that they only wanted for depth for a playoff season.

If Friday comes and goes and the Flyers still have JVR, Braun and Seeler? Is that enough incompetence to get Fletcher fired?

Why would fletch make any changes….we have the 5th highest increase in win% from last year of any team in the NHL….you don’t make deals when any this much success!!

No, it really doesn't add value. It subtracts value at the deadline. He is a depth defenseman. At best a #6. Teams aren't looking to take on future years for that kind of player.
- MJL

So, he's valuable to us, but not to the team he is traded too because he's signed for next year?

Who's gonna fire him? Scott and Spectacor don't give a (frank) about hockey. Fan complaints don't even register.

I'm not sure Fletcher and Torts can coexist past this season. All year Torts really has said nothing on Fletcher or pretty much took a dump on all of Fletcher"s moves last summer.

People should really give up on the idea that Fletcher is going to get fired any time soon.

He doesn't care anymore, or he is legally insane. That comment just belittled the flyers fanbase. STH must feel sick spending money on this product and management.

It should.

It LOOKS to me on the outside looking in that Fletcher has too much of an old school mentality. Older GMs sit on their guys for far too long and try to hold out until the last minute to somehow increase price. Newer GMs are seeing you strike while the iron is hot.

Dubas, Davidson, Poile, Washington's guy all recognize this.

Washington and Nashville both recognized it was time to cut bait and re-tool instead of pushing for a potential 1st round exit. They entered into the sellers market and have made decent moves. Philly had less sellers 2 - 4 weeks ago. They should have shipped JVR out when he had like 10 points in 11 games off injury. Moved him out.

So the Leafs added toughness/ sandpaper and attempted to address the backend. All good moves ? Considering you didn’t think they would do much? At least I have a team to watch now in the playoffs.

Luke Schenn is so terrible and yet Cup contenders such as the Bolts and Leafs are willing to trade for him.

Takes two to make a trade. I don't see JVR as player other teams are in a rush to acquire. Not with all the players available that were likely to be traded. JVR is more of a consolation prize.

Or if JvR fills a need/hole. Luke Schenn you wouldn’t think is a player anyone would rush out to get but a contender was willing to grab him 3 days before the deadline.

Man I kind of feel he is a bit overrated but whatever. Deal is done. He's a rotating guy, like a 7th dman.
