Holland: Oilers would not have qualified Puljujarvi

"Holland said Tuesday he informed Puljujarvi the team would not be issuing him a qualifying offer this summer to retain his rights as a restricted free agent.

The Oilers offered to negotiate a contract extension with Puljujarvi at a reduced salary at less than $2 million, but Puljujarvi and his agent felt a change was best.

This says all you need to know about Puljupoopty.

Yeah I'm gonna trust the evaluation talents of a gm who gave 28 year old Justin Abdelkader a 7 year deal with an NTC

The Oilers are also looking at Jakob Chychrun (Coyotes), Mattias Ekholm (Predators) and Vladislav Gavrikov (Columbus).

Whether they can make it work financially with them remains to be seen.

the first 2 will cost a lot more than Edmundson would

even at 2M... still overpaid imo

Agreed ... not the type of player I'd want on my team at any price frankly.

He's the same player he was here. He's a third liner at best, and he will never be anything more.

Which is totally fine. a 35~ point defensive 3C is fine.

At that price and for that long? Oh, and btw, he's not so good defensively. Jordan Staal is a great defensive center. KK is no Jordan Staal.

You haven't watched him much this year I take it. His defensive stats are trending towards J.Staal territory.

Also J.Staal was making $6 million per for the last decade to fill essentially the same role they have mapped out for KK going forward.

i think there's more to give offensively, he's made some strides, but I doubt he'll ever reach above 45 points.

You can take whatever you want to. And his stats can trend any way they want to. They can map out anything they want to. This player was drafted in the wrong spot. Your owner's pettiness did the Habs a huge favor, and that's the end of that.
I get that the team and fans have to talk him up and try to justify the horrific contract he was gifted. But he's not, and never will be what the Canes will tell everyone he is.
