Bill,
Have you noticed that any time when Frost's name gets brought up in pressers, including this afternoon, Torts speaks about him in a way that casts doubt on his future with the organization?
Tippett, York, Cates... none of them are spoken about in that way, even when they're struggling. Frost was one of the team's most effective players in Dec and Jan but you rarely heard any praise from Torts.
Do you feel like it's Torts just not liking the player fundamentally or do you think it's just a continuing head game that he's playing with Frost for the sake of motivation? Or something else? What do you think the deal is? - Tomahawk
I’d be curious to hear what is said between the coach and player. Not sure if player interviews ever dive into it or what’s Torts communication style is with the players |

Actually, Torts said pretty recently that Frost has improved in a lot of ways this season. Still needs to display more consistency but he has seen there's a player in there. He pushes Frost hard (I guess because he thinks Frost needs it).
Yesterday, Fletcher listed Frost -- twice -- among the young players who've shown this season they are NHLers and whom he has no plan of trading.
Side note: Over the last 33 games, Frost has outpointed frequent linemate Tippett, 23 to 21. For the season, Tippett has outpointed Frost, 32-29. Either which way, it's not like there's some big separation between the two. Both are primarily relied on to produce. |

Torts basically said today that even tho Frost is improving he still has questions about whether he's the right guy for the team moving forward, if they should move in a different direction entirely. Not the first time he's mused about that openly.

Yeah, there really isn't a huge discrepancy between the two in terms of production, mistakes, lapses, consistency etc. No idea why there's such a stark contrast in the way Torts talks about them to the media. |

Fletcher, Flahr and Briere seem to feel differently. |

Hurricanes traded for Gostisbehere. I wonder if their return will be as good as what the Flyers got for him. |

Now all we need is JVR to Carolina and Hayes to Avs to round this one out. |

Same reason he had little use for Mats Zuccarello in NY. Not his kind of player. |

Torts seems to be winning all the little tug o wars this season on the player personnel front. If I was Morgan Frost, I'd be worried about my future with the team.

I'd agree but Fletcher twice mentioning Frost twice as part of the core going forward wasn't an accident. When I did the recent Prospect Pipeline interview with Flahr, I asked him an open ended question about most improved players. He cited Frost right off the bat after acknowledging a slow start. |

Yeah, that's the feeling I get too. Zucc barely got a sniff under Torts but he blossomed into one of the top playmakers in the league. Luckily they fired Torts before he did any lasting damage to Zucc's career. |

If Torts were to be given a choice on his roster between Brett Hull or Jody Hull, Torts just might pick the latter because JH was a responsible checker and PKer and BH did whatever the hell he wanted. |

You couldn't come up with a more mismatched, unfortunate combo to be running a NHL team in 2023 than Fletcher and Torts. |

Fletcher is gripping his pearls hoping there's something he can use as an excuse to keep the fans pacified. |

Shall we review again?
* Ghost spent much of his last two seasons in Philly injured and extremely inconsistent. I personally had an NHL pro scout tell me that he thought Ghost might be out of the NHL entirely within a few years.
* Ghost was waived. He cleared with no takers.
* Ghost was offered around the NHL shortly after the 2020-21 season. No offers.
* Ghost was exposed to the Expansion Draft. Seattle passed and took Carsen Twarynski instead.
* Then -- and only then -- did the Flyers pay the extortion Arizona wanted to take on his contract. Even as a cap floor team, they didn't especially want Shayne.
Thankfully for Shayne -- whom I like as both a player and a person -- he revived his career in Arizona and proved a lot of doubters who thought he was in freefall in his career stock to be wrong. But let's not pretend that every avenue wasn't exhausted first before the Flyers paid the premium to unload his contract. |

Why wasn't the avenue of 'let's just keep him and the assets needed to trade him' ever explored? Now the Flyers stuck with Angelo for another season and don't have a second rounder until 2025 |

And what team (that need scoring!!!) Choose York over Goal Caufield! And the goon scouts & brass only choose Ratcliffe because he close to 7 feet!!! - THE EVIL WITHIN
Don't forget Gauthier over jiricek, too.
Jricek would have solidified the top pair RHD for years to come
All we can do now is hope that cutter turns into a stud even after being moved to center even though he was drafted becauese of how good he was on the wing ...
Typical flyers move of destroying and inhibiting a player's natural talents |
