If Torts were to be given a choice on his roster between Brett Hull or Jody Hull, Torts just might pick the latter because JH was a responsible checker and PKer and BH did whatever the hell he wanted. - bmeltzer

Shall we review again?
* Ghost spent much of his last two seasons in Philly injured and extremely inconsistent. I personally had an NHL pro scout tell me that he thought Ghost might be out of the NHL entirely within a few years.
* Ghost was waived. He cleared with no takers.
* Ghost was offered around the NHL shortly after the 2020-21 season. No offers.
* Ghost was exposed to the Expansion Draft. Seattle passed and took Carsen Twarynski instead.
* Then -- and only then -- did the Flyers pay the extortion Arizona wanted to take on his contract. Even as a cap floor team, they didn't especially want Shayne.
Thankfully for Shayne -- whom I like as both a player and a person -- he revived his career in Arizona and proved a lot of doubters who thought he was in freefall in his career stock to be wrong. But let's not pretend that every avenue wasn't exhausted first before the Flyers paid the premium to unload his contract. - bmeltzer
And replace him with defensive stalwart Tony Angelo??? Poor decisions all around. More excuses. |

Why wasn't the avenue of 'let's just keep him and the assets needed to trade him' ever explored? Now the Flyers stuck with Angelo for another season and don't have a second rounder until 2025 - TobyFlenderson

"A lot of it is opportunity from the coaching staff," Gostisbehere said. "They'll give you every opportunity. But when you fall back a little, they'll let you know. I think it keeps you in place to realize you're lucky to get this opportunity again. That's something I lost a little bit in Philly. The coaches and staff trust me."
That trust has been earned.
"One thing I did not know about 'Ghost' is how competitive he is," Tourigny said. "I thought point producer, offensive 'D,' but I wasn't sure how competitive he was defensively. He is really competitive. He cares a lot about both sides of the puck. He's not just a guy who tries to make points. He's really a new-age defenseman who cares about his defense and he's a really good teammate as well. He cares. He wants to get better. He's fun to coach." |

Why indeed? Because this team lacks vision. If they got rid of every player that has gone through a struggle of late then they probably couldn’t field a (frank)in team….was that just a fluke when Ghost put up 60 plus points? As well our GM can’t be viewed as being very bright. It seems he gets torched on every deal he makes…trades and contracts. Apparently “all the avenues” were looked at by the GM in Arizona. |

All it took was playing time and a longer leash. Something the Flyer’s were too concerned about being right and forcing him to play a more defensive role. |

Yes but wasn’t that all part of the grand plan to give up even more (14th overall and Haag) to get their current 3rd pairing RHD with a contract extension that’s like an albatross around the Flyers neck? Wouldn’t it have been better to just bury him on the Phantoms? It’s not like they were clearing cap space for Mario Lemieux or Bobby Orr? |

Exactly, and Arizona got 2 seasons out of a serviceable Dman the 36th overall pick in the 2022 draft (Artem Duda) and now a future 3rd. Talk about maximizing an asset, something Fletcher can't seem to ever do. |

Translation: Torts is playing head games with Frost. - Letterkenney
This! The question is does it help frost develop or does it cast doubt in his head?
As much as I hate to see him rag on frost I think the results have spoken for themselves.
The next question is when does he compliment the kid and leave him alone?
The rough love crap gets old kinda quickly, imo |

Amazing what a player can do when he is given confidence and put in a position to succeed by the coaching staff.
There was a report out there earlier this week about the Flyers wanting to take on reclamation projects. Does this staff really think they can turn around a reclamation project? The one player that fits that mold that they've acquired this year (Bellows) has played 18 games this year, mostly with 4th line types. He's also been scratched in favor of 7 D more often than not. |

Could have kept him and tried to build him back up instead of paying someone else to take him so you could trade for...uh...Rasmus Ristolainen.

No. You can't just bring back a player after you make it crystal clear you want him gone and tried 3 different ways in the span of a few months to get it done. At that point, you have to bite the bullet. The Flyers put themselves in a position of extreme weakness where Arizona knew they had no choice but to pay the ransom as their last resort after Plan A (waivers), Plan B (offered leaguewide for a pittance) and Plan C (Expansion Draft) all failed. |

Fletcher only “ talks” about maximizing assets. I mean you would think Tippet was having an MVP season if you listened to fletcher yesterday. I like the player…but that’s what the future looks like? That’s who this clown show is hanging his hat on? |

The Flyers quickly learned what the Islanders already knew: Bellows has AHL feet. He has good hands and a little bit of bite but he has slow feet and not enough hockey sense to compensate at the NHL level. |

Not shocked Chuck hasn’t done much of anything. Not a lot of teams are going to be lining up for slop from the leagues biggest embarrassments. |

Yep. I said for years Ghost had a confidence problem and AV purposefully made it worse because he had a problem with him. They should have kept Ghost and allowed him to get healthy. The worst part is AV was gone not long after.
Just one more brutal bit of asset management by this clownshow of an organization.
And now, after reading about Torts, Frost, Jody and Brett Hull, I am even more pissed off. Imagine how Torts would ruin Bedard if we somehow lucked in to drafting him.
They should change the name of the team to the Philadelphia Talentless Muckers and Grinders. As long as Torts remains that is what we will get.
