OKay that piece in SCH about why the Hawks should trade Domi for anything is why I am not a fan of the advanced stats crowd. |
|
|
|
Looking at their schedules for the rest of the season what is the under over for wins?
Hawks 4
Columbus 5
Anaheim 6
San Jose 7

The Hawks should keep taking on bad/expiring contracts from teams that need to clear cap space and continue to add draft picks in doing so. So happy they tore this completely down. Anything of value left, move and reset it all completely. - frafra
At this time the most value left for tomorrow is Domi. It might be wise to sit him out for tonight´s match. |

From Pierre LeBrun:
My sense is the ask right now from Chicago on pending UFA Max Domi is a second-round pick that's down the road, similar to the price Colorado paid on Lars Eller
At the prices being paid, why a 2nd? For a "stacked" 2023 draft, why not 2023 picks? Not understanding |

Reichel recalled - LAHawk
Poor kid, who's he going to play with? Probably wishes he stayed in Rockford. Better bring his big boy pants. |

Especially if they get Bedard, you need vets like T. Johnson (and I hope Domi is back) to teach him the NHL, not just on the ice, but off of it.
As it is he probably will be boarding with a vet for at least the first year, like Dach with Seabrook. He will only be 18 yo next year. - LAHawk
Let's see if Toews is done or not. And the vet with the long term deal is Seth Jones. I don't know how much more has to be allocated for the veterans to show the ropes. Tikhonov lasted here half a season as Panarin's translator. As cool as it would be to extend Tyler Johnson, the injury risk is too great for that. It wouldn't surprise me if he gets moved this summer or at the next deadline. Maybe Tampa comes calling for one more run for him there, at half retained.

Panarin was in his mid-20's when he came over, Bedard will be 18. Doesn't matter, the Hawks are not getting Bedard anyway
. I don't see the ping pong balls going the Hawks way. |

I'm sure KD wants someone to pay up for Domi if he's to be moved. He's a good candidate for an extension here, as he buys into the culture here already, and wants to play for LR. |

Reichel - Kurashev - Raddysh doesn't seem too bad. I wonder if he had chemistry with Guttman down in Rockford, another option for him. |

I hear that. Oilers could fall out of the playoff picture and lock up that first pick, amirite? (That never gets old.) Kidding aside, the worst finisher only has an 18% chance, so while they would have the best odds, it's still a crapshoot. |

We already have 6 picks in the first 2 rounds of the '23 draft. One of those possibly turning into a '24 or '25 1st dependent on what NYR does in the playoffs. You can stockpile picks in the upcoming years and use them as possible trade bait if the contention window opens sooner than expected. Especially if we win the Bedard sweepstakes. |

Before Boston traded for Bertuzzi, they offered the 1st and 4th for Domi, but KD turned them down because he didn't want to get a greater return for Max than Kane. Optics and all that.

Bettman already knows who is getting the #1 pick. If you really believe it is a random lottery, you must not exist in real life.

Because KD blew it up with them still under contract. - rpeters01
so he was suppose to do what? trade all our picks and try a poopty ass retool and possibly lose out on a generational talent. Sign a bunch of has been UFA's and maybe finish in or just out of the playoffs.

So the Rangers got Kane, Tarasanko and Motte.
Bruins got Orlov, Hathaway, and Bertuzzi.

They had 11 picks last year and have 11 (currently) this year. You have to space out the prospects a bit. |

Agree with what you are saying, to an extent.
There is no way KD is going to use all of them to draft players and hope to develop them all. That takes forever. If a team gets 2 NHL players per draft they are doing fantastic, far better than most of the teams in the league.
Some of these draft picks will be going in trade to teams with cap problems or with good young players they don't have room to promote from the minors or to pick off good NHL players currently playing in the league.
Trading and accumulating lots of picks is great, the real test for KD is coming down the road with how they will be used to build the NHL team into a contender. |

It's kinda stupid to rig it for the Oilers four times over a six year period, and to always deny the Yotes since the lottery was instituted. I mean if they are serious about hockey taking hold in warm climates. Maybe you can read their minds better than I can. Until proven otherwise, I assume it's random. There's an argument to be made for "It's rigged!" for any team who gets the first pick. If it's ever the Yotes, it'll be because it's Bettman's team. If it's an original six team, it's because they need the ratings. If it's the Oilers or Buffalo, they can't let an important franchise be forced to move from an otherwise smaller market. |

Boston just placed Taylor Hall on LTIR giving them 2.8M in cap relief so they got the cap space to make one more move.
The rest of the playoff contenders with substantial cap space:
Vegas with 5M. Can't see them not using it.
Leafs with 4.7M.
COL 2.8M
CAR 2.6M
NJ 2.1M
SEA 3.8M
LA 6M
MIN 7.2M
OTT 15.1M
CGY 3.3M
WPG 4.5M
NYI 7.6M
WSH has 7.3M in space but they've been buying and selling so who knows what they will do.
Should see a flurry of trades later today and tomorrow.

Showtime is over, at least in Chicago, and a seemingly bright future is, well, way off in the distance.
Kinda been off in the distance for a while, no? |

Yep. Draft picks, players, prospects and cap space are all prospects are all draft currency. It will take using them all to rebuild a winner. |
