Agree with what you are saying, to an extent.
There is no way KD is going to use all of them to draft players and hope to develop them all. That takes forever. If a team gets 2 NHL players per draft they are doing fantastic, far better than most of the teams in the league.
Some of these draft picks will be going in trade to teams with cap problems or with good young players they don't have room to promote from the minors or to pick off good NHL players currently playing in the league.
Trading and accumulating lots of picks is great, the real test for KD is coming down the road with how they will be used to build the NHL team into a contender. - RickJ
Or multiple picks can be packaged to move up in the draft.

Man, we are a long way away from those amazing years when everything was going right. How did it get so bad so quickly? Proof that a badly managed team even one as talented as the Hawks can be taken down. What a waste. Too bad cause handled differently this wouldn't even be a conversation
Hopefully it gets better but lots of uncertainty and lots of rebuilding of the brand and the team. As a fan it really sucks. Long road ahead indeed with very little guarantees that we land the Connor or make the right picks.
Time will tell if this new management have the ability to turn it around? I certainly hope so! |

It's kinda stupid to rig it for the Oilers four times over a six year period, and to always deny the Yotes since the lottery was instituted. I mean if they are serious about hockey taking hold in warm climates. Maybe you can read their minds better than I can. Until proven otherwise, I assume it's random. There's an argument to be made for "It's rigged!" for any team who gets the first pick. If it's ever the Yotes, it'll be because it's Bettman's team. If it's an original six team, it's because they need the ratings. If it's the Oilers or Buffalo, they can't let an important franchise be forced to move from an otherwise smaller market. - 333inthe3rd
The Red Wings got jobbed 4 years in a row with the ping pong balls.

From Pierre LeBrun:
My sense is the ask right now from Chicago on pending UFA Max Domi is a second-round pick that's down the road, similar to the price Colorado paid on Lars Eller
At the prices being paid, why a 2nd? For a "stacked" 2023 draft, why not 2023 picks? Not understanding - ikeane
I'm on the fence about trading Domi vs re-signing him.
The Hawks need to get to the cap floor next year (I never thought I would say that) and Domi has been productive and had a positive attitude. At some point the team needs to reward players and send that positive message to the team.
If another club offers a 1st round pick then take it immediately. If it's a 3rd round or later decline immediately. A 2nd round pick would be decent, if they could bring Domi back next season. It would likely be a mid to late 2nd round pick and I don't think the draft is that deep. A late 2nd round pick in 2023 will be like a late 2nd round pick any year. |

Panarin was in his mid-20's when he came over, Bedard will be 18. Doesn't matter, the Hawks are not getting Bedard anyway
. I don't see the ping pong balls going the Hawks way. - LAHawk
I think with the revenue questions they'll probably win the lottery, or maybe get stuck in 2 just to give them a little spanking for the 2010 fiasco. But the NHL needs the Hawks to be successful sooner rather than later.
I dunno that Cbus or Anaheim even would move the needle like a relevant Hawks team does. |

Exactly right. A large test will be getting rid (in a timely fashion) guys that he drafted.

But if there is a year to be jobbed it's this one. Yeah you lose out on Bedard, you'll still get a star, someone who would be #1 in their respective year. |

Kane rewarded, J. Johnson rewarded, McCabe and Lafferty rewarded all by being sent to a playoff team. Gust rewarded in a way to by being signed to a NHL contract. How many rewards have to be given out by KD to show he is looking out for the players. If there is an offer on the table for Domi that KD deems reasonable, he should jump on it. And yes, I wouldn't mind Domi back next year. No rule saying he can't be signed as a UFA after being traded. |

The Yotes just picked up Voracek's contract. Gotta stay above the floor so they can trade more players. |

Unless he has a 1 way contract which I doubt, he is making AHL money when playing in Rockford.
Thats part of the Blackhawks being nice when they bring up a player for a few games - they get NHL money for those games. Most AHL players make $85,000 - $150,000 per year. |

I agree. Man talking about someone who is out of the public eye since retiring. You would think he could be a Hawks goaltending consultant, or at least give him his one more shift.

For such a late pick and another year left on VoracekÅ› contract? How much does this benefit the Coyotes? |

Showtime is over, at least in Chicago, and a seemingly bright future is, well, way off in the distance.
Kinda been off in the distance for a while, no? - Chunk
The talk and reporting of the Hawks are doomed and rebuilding this week is mind numbing.
No poop Sherlock, where have you all been for a year. Probably the same talk show hosts and columnists who were female doging about Stan when he tried to retool.
Eddy O on the score this morning was the only one to get it right, he said probably is happening at least 3 years later than it should've. |

the way Domi talks about playing for Richardson, seems only logical that he would re-sign next year.
i think he'll get a great deal as they need to get to the floor. In exchange for that, moving on this year for an additional pick also only seems logical. |

So I know its sacrilegious to question the greatest GM of all time, but does it make sense when rebuilding to extend Larkin and trade away your other better players for future picks which we've all learned over the last few days won't be any good or contribute for years from now?
Will they be any good during Larkins reign?

Good question. I assume he has his reasons, but we're not going to be privy to them.
One thing I am sure of, though....this joint will melt the (frank) down if in three years KD trades a couple of his decent players for draft picks. |
