I have to say, Jonathan Quick going from LA to CBJ immediately to VGK is frickin awesome. How much fun would that series be?

Yes. Though 2 of them are closer to 3rd in terms of value.

Lafferty was well-worth the extension. It was a reasonable contract and he surpassed expectations this season.

We know he's an awesome tearer downer. (Though I guess he's running neck and neck with )

As much as it is bad, its the right way to do it if your going to do a tear down and rebuild for the long term.

Have to figure that extra year at 1.15 gave him a pick a round or two higher than it would have been.

We like to focus here on high draft picks who don't succeed, and allege that the "cause" is a rush to the show (rather than just not being good enough).

How, then, do we explain Cale Makar? Drafted in 2017, he played two years in college, then jumped right into the NHL Playoffs at age 20. He has been great ever since. Never played in the AHL or any other pro league against men. Jumped straight into the men's league as a boy.

He was the 4th pick in the draft; Dach was 3rd (as was Cam Barker, I believe). Makar plays defense, which is supposed to take longer to develop. Dach has developed at a slower rate than Makar. Is it caused because he was "rushed", or is it correlation? Most 1st round picks don't live up to what is hoped for them (stardom) whether they were rushed to the show or not.

This is gonna be kind of a lazy post especially how signifigant this topic will be concerning the Hawks and their fans the next 3-4-5-6 yrs but I wanna touch on it.

No, Makar didn't play against pro men but the NCAA is filled with 22-23-25 yr old men. For every Fantilli or Eichel who leaves the NCAA after a yr you have 5-10 Guttmans who play all 4 yrs NCAA after 4 yrs of jrs..

Point is IMO the NCAA path is more competitive vs Major Junior and it is filled with more mature, bigger players including a great deal of them are men.

Heard an NHL manager once say you never hear anyone say he stayed a yr to long in the AHL, MJ or NCAA but you often hear a kid was brought along too quickly/early to the NHL.

That said each case is different but all things being equal you leave a prospect down too long as opposed to bringing him up too soon.

The Athletic has a good article by the DET beat writer on what Stevie Y might be up to after the Hronek trade, and before the Bertuzzi trade, as far as collecting draft picks when he seems to have turned the corner from the rebuild.

Like was mentioned here he may be packaging picks to move up in the draft or that he was gonna go after Chychrun but he was moved 1 hour after the Hronek deal. Might be collecting picks to trade for an already rostered NHL player.

Gonna be interesting watching DET thru the draft up to the start of next season.

Reichel - Kurashev - Raddysh doesn't seem too bad. I wonder if he had chemistry with Guttman down in Rockford, another option for him.
