They there really isn't much to discuss. Davidson was smart to get something even if it is low value.
- jfkst1

Agreed, part of something is better than 100% of nothing, which is exactly what KD would have gotten had he let Kane sleepwalk and/or pout through the remainder of the season post fire sale.

While many Blackhawk fans have been viewing his trade value based on the whole of his career, the '22/'23 version of Kane has been pretty underwhelming, especially prior to his pre-TDL hot streak.

The Rangers top six average age is over 30, yes they have the kid line, but their window is only open for a bit with that top six. Hopefully we do make them pay in a couple of years. In the meantime, I hope they get to the conference finals, then get their a$$s handed to them.

Hereā€™s what the Blackhawks look like next season based only on players they own right now:
Reichel Domi Raddysh
T Johnson Guttman Kurashev
Katchouk Richardinson Blackwell
Entwhistle R Johnson Anderson

Korchinski Jones
Vlasic Mitchell
Phillips Murphy

Mrazek
Soderblom

I do expect Korchinski to make the full jump. Heā€™s not AHL eligible and thereā€™s nobody keeping him from being the top dog on the left side of our D. Vlasic adds needed size to the group, and balances out Mitchellā€™s mobility. I donā€™t expect Nazar to make the jump because he just started playing at Michigan. Nobody else is really kicking the door in from juniors or college but training camp could surprise. The left side of our D has so much in the pipeline, I wouldnā€™t be shocked if KD starts evaluating trade options in the next couple of years because the free agent forward class is a barren wasteland.

I definitely think Kane gets much more if there were at least a number of options instead of just one. A 2023 first and third are probably fair value even if he isn't playing at 100%. I just hate the scum rags benefiting yet again from a player wanting to go there. I'm sure you all want them to make it to the conference finals, but I hope the Devils humiliate them in round 1.

i don't see them getting out of the division. As you mentioned the top 6 is not young, they have a lot of star power, but I do not see them winning many board battles, and lack of depth on defense. Shesterkin has to go back to last year's Seisterkin for the Rangers to get out of the division IMO.

Not sure that lineup gets them to the cap floor, theyā€™ll need to sign a couple of free agents.

You forgot ZAITSEV (red font)

The other thing, that roster doesn't get you anywhere near the cap floor, even if you give Domi $6 million, and Ziatsev $4 mil, you are shy over $15 mil. to hit the floor.

You can get much closer if you sign Toews for $10 mil. just to sit on IR

Korchinski isnā€™t ready and if he's on the Hawk roster more than 9 games, the team is flirting with him going the Dach route and not being able to develop, especially on a horrendous team that has no support system for him. Besides, Del Mastro is far more ready than Korchinski and he should play in the AHL for a time to learn the pro game. There are lots of mistakes made in the last five or six years, cap issues, too many MNCā€™s, bad contracts with too much term, mortgaging the future trading away draft picks and prospects, not developing talent and bringing up youngsters before theyā€™re ready. Hopefully KD doesnā€™t make those same mistakes.

Think we are prepared for the Rags not to get us that first after watching MAF not get to the WCF or Keith to the SCF last playoffs and thus not succeeding on the contingencies.

Happy to get at least a 2nd in a strong draft class of this as KD really did not have much leverage given the circumstances.

I also think we'll be taking cap casualties on from winners for either 2nds or trades for our 2nds to move up to 1sts like Mrazek last draft.

So far Davidson has been the anti-Bowman - tearing the roster down completely, trading star players, not obtaining reclamation 1st round picks.

I doubt if he brings Korchinski up full time next year. That would be something Stan would have done. Korchinski, as some wise poster recently mentioned, will be on the Magical Mystery Tour next season - 9 games in the NHL, interspersed with time in the press box to observe things, then an AHL "conditioning" stint, then off to WJC camp and tourney, then back to juniors.

Hawks aren't going anywhere next year. Why allow him to go through next year's dumpster fire here?

As some have said, itā€™s sad to see Kane go but more because he, along with a few others, represented the best period of Blackhawk hockey. Iā€™m sure KD could have played hardball and chose not to trade him because of the terrible return but there will be plenty of time to make New York pay, when they get in cap hell. For now those days are behind us and I think all we can do now is get behind KD and his rebuild.

Those are similar to my observations too. Average defensively as a team and that won't improve with Tarasenko and Kane. I would have them fourth or fifth in the EC. They are contenders, but I like Toronto's forward lineup better, Carolina's team defense better, and Boston's goaltending more. Shesterkin has been solid but nothing special this season. I expect they'll need elite offensive production to advance.

That LHD core is making me nauseous. Can't wait to see Nick Holden signed to hold down that 2nd pairing slot.

Also wouldn't rule out Colton Dach starting the year with the Indian Head on his jersey.

Was Kane open to going anywhere else?
- jfkst1

Scott Powers, at The Athletic, reported that FRIDAY Kane finally gave KD the ok to move him to only the Rangers. That's when they sent him home from SJ.. By then many teams had moved making trades using top assets, including the NYR.

Iā€™m a big KD fan

I know you guys feel sour and I probably would too but hopefully in time you guys enjoy seeing him another jersey. I felt this way about Leetch. Iā€™m super excited Kanyr (sorry lol) is in NYC. And I expect good times ahead

Youā€™re likely right. I just think Korchinski might make it impossible to send him down when training camp comes.

On a totally unrelated note, wouldnā€™t be shocked if Toews signs a one year deal as a player/captain/assistantā€¦ the first in a long time. They value what he thinks, and even though he likely retires I wouldnā€™t be totally shocked to see a unique roll like this suit him well.

Because Kane (and probably his agent) thought the NHL GM's wouldn't move until he made his decision.

KD will get more castoff #7+ Dmen. Not his MO to play that many kids. KK will play in jr's again.
