So, the Hawks had 11 picks last year. They currently have 11 in this draft, and two firsts in the next two drafts after this year. KD has also shed everyone except for Murphy and Jones who would "block" a prospect. Now that the Hawks have amassed all of this draft capital and roster flexibility, at what point does Kyle start actually building the team he wants? Does it start this offseason? Bring in some young-ish guys that actually have some experience and build the room up so that the kids have something to be part of instead of having to make it themselves?
They likely won't be competing for a PO spot next year, but I would expect that they actively try to be notably better than this year, no? I can't imagine that they would actively try to be the worst team in the league two years straight for the lottery. - Chunk
I suspect next year will look a lot like this year. Except Reichel, I don't see any of the high-end prospects playing in Chicago next year (probably the next year as well), especiallyat forward. I think some of the Rockford defensemen will come up, but not sure they'll move the needle much.
I'd expect them to sign a few flippable free agents and take on a bad contract or two to fill in the roster. In short, at least a couple more years of pain. |

There were several minor league trades with most late reporting. Sikura was traded. But what is KD objective? Try to build a certain kind of team, and knowing style/ skill of prospects who likely will receive AHL time? Amazingly all the deals and Teply still at Rockford. He has barely found the scoresheet this season. The Icehogs have experienced a lack of top offensive centers often the past few years.

I agree - I think next year we sign a bunch of vets to short term flippable contracts, and tank again for a top prospect. Next year will be really tough. The following year is when I think the front office looks to start actually building.
The question is, if the hawks actually land Bedard, what do they do with him next year? If he plays in the NHL is he getting thrown to the wolves with poor teammates, or does it not matter for a player of that caliber? If he isn’t in the NHL, not sure where else he could be to develop.

Hey jhawk, your favorite ex-Rockford player, Dylan McLaughlin was just traded from STL to DET. STL receives Jakub Vrana half retained. I just thought you would like to know.

If the Hawks get the lucky ping pong ball, IMO you will see at least 2 NHL calibre players (probably using some draft capital instead of the UFA market) signed in order to play with Bedard for at least the first couple of years.
You will also see a face puncher or 2 like Tinordi/Englund for protection,

Any team that Bedard is drafted by either has or will go out of their way to get at least one complimentary forward for his line so that Bedard will have some success his rookie season. I have seen projection of a good year being roughly a point per game. Might be a tough challenge for KR to find a good (proper) linematte. I know we had a RW who would miss about the season injured but we traded him to the NYR |

Set the bar kinda low don’t you ya Hoser? I’d expect 2 firsts, 2 seconds, the top prospect and Dallas taking the Jones brothers as a sweetener. |

WOW did Vrana fall out of favor fast with the greatest GM of all time. He traded Anthony Mantha last year to get him.

So Kyle Davidson has until 2 PM CST to continue the purge.
I'm not sure who the hell is left that would bring back anything or anyone of value. Seth Jones is untouchable (contract/NMC); Murphy is most likely not desired by any GM in the league; AA is all run and no gun and it's obvious that his one 30 goal season was an anomaly. Anyone else the Hawks have, other teams have an equivalent already in their system.
I must admit this tearing down to the studs is pretty entertaining and is really quite laughable at this point.
I just hope KD has revamped the scouting staff and system that they hit on some NHL players with all these picks. |

Thanks appreciate the news. There is an underdog for sure. I have no idea how he had fared this season. But I know he was injured either last year or early this season.
Maybe your underdog is Teply?! |

He has played 6 games with Springfield all year with a goal. If he plays anywhere next year he should look at the KHL or the Swiss league.

All he needs to do now is get another 1st for 26, and he'll have at least 4 picks inside the 1st 2 rounds of the draft the next 4 years. |

Vrana was only part of the package. Stevie Y also got a 1st and a 2nd in that trade. And an old Hawk favorite, Richard Panik. https://www.capfriendly.c...rades/players/jakub-vrana |

Looking at all the Hawks draft picks over the next few years, I wonder if the opportunity rises, if KD will offer sheet some good young player. He could use Chicago's own picks as compensation and still have the left over 1st, 2nd, and 3rd picks he has accumulated. |
