Yup $4.1 million offer to either of them, if Rangers sign, puts them in more world of hurt cap wise. If they decline, they get back a second round draft choice. You can include Lafreniere in the offer sheet category too.
Then KD gives Drury no choice, who holds the cards then?

So, the Hawks had 11 picks last year. They currently have 11 in this draft, and two firsts in the next two drafts after this year. KD has also shed everyone except for Murphy and Jones who would "block" a prospect. Now that the Hawks have amassed all of this draft capital and roster flexibility, at what point does Kyle start actually building the team he wants? Does it start this offseason? Bring in some young-ish guys that actually have some experience and build the room up so that the kids have something to be part of instead of having to make it themselves?
They likely won't be competing for a PO spot next year, but I would expect that they actively try to be notably better than this year, no? I can't imagine that they would actively try to be the worst team in the league two years straight for the lottery. - Chunk
This seems right to me. They are about $40m below the cap right now, and I would think they would want to be well over the floor next season, if only to have flexibility for more moves. That would be adding $30m or so in salaries.
So not only taking some bad contracts (could be happening today), but finding some decent players in their mid-to-late 20s and signing them for 2 or 3 years. Those guys could help the prospects as they come in.

Some chatter with less than 4 hours until the deadline:
PIT still looking even after Bonino add
Seems EDM is likely done
OTT could add bottom-six centre
Believe VAN & CHI checked in on Turcotte
WAS F Sheary has generated interest
Eyes on Klingberg/Kulikov/Grant/Henrique in ANA

I checked cap friendly. They have 15 signed for next year. Including the McCabe retention, Keith recapture and Borgstrom and Connolly buy out the total cap hit is 43M. The floor is around 62M so they have to spend 19M on the 8 needed spots to fill out the roster.
A few RFA's will be signed and probably be on the team - Mitchell, Kurashev, etc but they won't be paid much. That leaves room for obtaining a salary dump or two from cap strapped teams as they rework their rosters this summer and a couple of UFA's that could be flipped at the TDL. Maybe Domi comes back on a 3 or 4 year contract. And where does Toews fit into the picture?
The TDL trades are about over, now it's time to look forward to the summer trades, signings and draft. |

Orr wait a year and offer sheet Lindgren or Kakko.

Roles reverse for the NY and Chicago GMs. Payback time (unless Kane signs with the Hawks during the UFA period). |

AA, 2nd round pick and higher prospect for Turcotte? |

Any team that Bedard is drafted by either has or will go out of their way to get at least one complimentary forward for his line so that Bedard will have some success his rookie season. I have seen projection of a good year being roughly a point per game. Might be a tough challenge for KR to find a good (proper) linematte. I know we had a RW who would miss about the season injured but we traded him to the NYR - jhawk59
I wonder if Kane strongly considers coming back to Chicago if Bedard is drafted? Kane seems to enjoy mentoring and learning from young players. Couldn’t ask for a better option.

He has been dead for over 80 years. I think Arizona has the remainder of his contract on LTIR. |

Waaaaayyyy too much for Turcotte. I’d do AA and a mid-round pick or lower-end prospect. LA would likely want more, but he’s too much of a risk to give up significant assets for. |

If Mitchell is on the "outs" as has been speculated, what about Mitchell and a 2024 4th?
He is a risk, but might be worth the gamble. |
