Here’s what the Blackhawks look like next season based only on players they own right now:
Reichel Domi Raddysh
T Johnson Guttman Kurashev
Katchouk Richardinson Blackwell
Entwhistle R Johnson Anderson
Korchinski Jones
Vlasic Mitchell
Phillips Murphy
Mrazek
Soderblom
I do expect Korchinski to make the full jump. He’s not AHL eligible and there’s nobody keeping him from being the top dog on the left side of our D. Vlasic adds needed size to the group, and balances out Mitchell’s mobility. I don’t expect Nazar to make the jump because he just started playing at Michigan. Nobody else is really kicking the door in from juniors or college but training camp could surprise. The left side of our D has so much in the pipeline, I wouldn’t be shocked if KD starts evaluating trade options in the next couple of years because the free agent forward class is a barren wasteland. - ObeseOprah
I like this!!!!!!! Definitely another Top 5 pick!!!!

cap compliance penalties
Potential punishment options include:
a. A fine of at least $1 million and no more than $5 million dollars, with an equal amount of reduction in cap ceiling for the team the next season. This punishment is mandatory for violations of the Team Payroll Range (i.e. cap floor), the only type of Circumvention that has a mandatory punishment.
b.Forfeiture of draft picks (Gary can decide how many, from what rounds, and in what draft years). |

Couple things dont add up. To me sounds like Kane had decided weeks ago he wanted to be a Ranger and KD was trying to get best possible deal from Rangers which he should do. Think Rangers threw a wrench in things when they signed Tarassnko and at that point were out on Kane. Thus the reaction of disappointment by Kane when he heard of Tarasenko deal. Rangers were moving on filling other needs but Kane pushed KD to get him to Rangers. The Kane to Rangers was going on for weeks prior to Tarasenko move. Think KD just misread things this the low return. Either way he did Kane a solid and hoping he signs a team friendly deal to stay. Good luck with Bedard hope you get him kid looks like a generational talent - hfc355
Nah, Kane didn't want to leave Chicago

Was looking at the bio for the player acquired from Phoenix in the Kane trade - Vili Saarijarvi.
https://www.eliteprospect...er/122954/vili-saarijarvi
Medium sized RD - 5-10, 183. He was in the Detroit system but didn't get a second contract, then went back to Europe and has been scoring pretty well the last 3 years (about .6 PPG), 2 yrs in Liiga, this year in Swiss league. Pius Suter was about 1 PPG in the Swiss league.
He might be a 3rd pair guy or someone for Rockford. They have his rights until summer of '24.
KD occasionally does these head-scratcher type acquisitions (like trading for Liam Gorman at the last draft), but maybe there is something there. Gorman is having a pretty good year at Princeton also. - totem
Both players Hawks acquired are just AHL fillers. Many times GMs just throw in those guys to bolster their lower teams (LIke Rockford)....sometimes it is the OTHER GM that wants such a player in a trade to get rid of a "glut" in their system...or to stay under the 50 contract limit. There are a multitude of player additions or movements that have little to do with helping the parent club, but just a shuffling of chairs at the dinner table, because there is not enough food for everyone....

No surprise.....hardly an established player out there who signs a 7-8 year deal at 7 million + who DOESN'T have a NTC or a NMC. It just comes with the territory now.

I'm currently in Europe and figured I would throw up my Vili Saarijärvi profile from his draft year that I wrote.
The hawks saw a little of him while they shared Toledo Whale ECHL I believe.
Vili Saarijärvi
Undersized dee-man who is a good puckhandler and up-ice puck carrier. Very competitive and fearless in his play. Reads the ice well in both ends. Can avoid pressure from forecheckers and make the transition pass. Has good vision. QBs the powerplay. Has strong recovery speed to get back after activating. Despite his size he comes ready to play against players larger than his stature
Guys like this are placed in trades for another purpose that has nothing to due with any NHL pro scouting. they usual are the way to transfer the Cap $ that the teams cannot cover, or to housekeep.
My 7 round 2023 Mock Draft is up on Lines.com
If you are going there, and see any trade mistakes leave me a IM here.

I honestly don’t know who they pay this offseason. Pastrnak and Larkin likely aren’t making it to market, O’Reilly, Tarasenko, and anyone on the wrong side of thirty likely doesn’t want to suffer this team being awful next season.
You could try to throw huge shorter deals at Klingberg, Kuzmenko, Killorn, Nyqvist, Dadonov, Monahan, but none of them move the needle aside from Klingberg. The rest of the list is rough and old. Probably have to look for teams trying to shed cap and get a solid sweetener that way. - ObeseOprah
Certainly not Larkin....just signed an 8 year extension today.

That's the weird part of it - Saarijarvi isn't under contract so it wasn't ARI trying to clear a spot. Don't think ARI was required to include anything but just the salary retention - so it looks like it was a specific ask from KD. The other guy - Welenski - is not a prospect, but just balances Zech going to NYR.
Anyway, just a curiosity for now. If he gets an invite to prospects camp, we'll see if there is anything there. |

Not a worry, can easily pick up 3-4 duds making 5-7 million each. Boom. Cap compliant.

Nah, Kane didn't want to leave Chicago - BetweenTheDots
Unless he thought Davidson was delusional and would pay him 10 million in a couple re-up (which was never going to happen with this GM or any)and I don't thin k that was the case.
Case hates losing and the turn over and he was always more interested in post season heroics over throwing himself in the line of fire with this group, and that is probably natural in most case.
Your statement is partially true Kane didn't want to leave Chicago f or ANY playoff contender

I guess KD saw a scenario in which he's possibly in the mix for a bottom-4 pairing RHD spot heading into next year? Especially if Murphy is traded off. Then again, 90% of the roster is going to be experiments to see who sticks once the new core is ushered in. |

"That is a big support system she will not have in New York, so I think Kane gave that a nanosecond of a thought."
You make it sound like the US east coast is on the moon or something. I'm sitting down here on the west coast of Australia ... NY is perfectly manageable- trust me on that one. |

Bizarre that the rebuilding Canucks would do this. Hronek is a solid defender, but giving up one of the main pieces in the Horvat deal? |

I think Tarasenko was always the Rangers first choice. - Ztra
Idk about that. I think they just didn’t want to wait for his decision, without prying. Respecting him. But they needed to strike early, Drury was pretty sly I think. I definitely feel a bit bad for Tarasenko, he must be like wtf. He hasn’t been great btw. He hasn’t scored since his first shift in time tho hopefully he will click |

Hope the new core is better than that Dach, Nylander and Boquist new core PR was promoting prior to the 20-21 season.
Don't have the Bedard vibe, feeling we'll end up with Carlsson or Smith. That said, either of those two have to be better than Barker and Skille in this strong draft. Assuming this pick will be part of the new core with KK. Nazar has 3 points in 6 games but he's still recovering after the surgery.
Over the years, I've seen high picks start out- Dykhuis, Bell, the two Russians, Ruutu, Skille and Barker- which Reichel seems to play like in his limited time with the Hawks. On the other hand, JR, Kaner and Toews played like stars right away. There's always the later bloomer though like Thompson, O-Reilly and Sharpie though so I'm hoping Reichel can round out to a top 6. |

Wow LA. That's a WTF move. I guess the Canucks are going for a retooling too? I had them pegged for a rebuild.
Hronek has good stats this year- 9 G 29A and had 38 points last year. Maybe the Canucks feel they are catching an Adam Fox. He's only 25. Watching him 4-5 times over the years though never got an impression he was worth a first round pick. Maybe the Vancouver analytics guys see something. |

Dach was rushed to the NHL and while he might be a 50-60 point a year player, the Hawks expected an heir to Toews, too high expectations. Disappointed, and perhaps worried he'd be a Strome, KD traded him at what he felt was the highest they could get- a decent first round pick.
