McCabe and Lafferty in the lineup for TOR tonight against EDM. Should be a good game.

Buffalo traded Portillo to LA for a 3rd round pick. Another KD fail.

Maybe Domi to VGK? they are looking for a middle-6 forward. They are a little low on draft picks (no 2nd this year).

To VGK:

Max Domi
Jujhar Khaira

To CHI:

2023 3rd
2025 3rd

Maybe they could find a prospect from Vegas instead of one of the picks.

Not sure how many good prospects they have in Vegas. As you know, most contenders only have a couple of good prospects, and due to lack of quantity of good prospects, these teams seem to overrate said prospects and end up holding on to them far too long. Sound familiar?

Hey Mo, curious if you hate Stevie Y, the Wings, the people who like either or parts of all of that? No right no wrong, just curious is all .......

The Wings look nicely positioned to me. Fine offensive core with Kasper on the way, Seider and Edvinson on the back end to build around, 1st rd pick goalie Cossa (I'm not a fan though) in the minors, a KD like stockpile of 2 1sts and 3 2nds in next yrs deep draft on top of his squad playing meaningful games late into this yr...... Looks bright in DET for all except for the haters to my eye.

One helluva haul for Hronek today.

- Mr Ricochet

I used to despise the Wings, but that has cooled considerably since (1) the Hawks won three times, and (2) the Wings moved to the East.

I kinda like Stevie. He did a great job in Tampa, although he had some good fortune, too. What I enjoy highlighting is the exaggerated double standard used for him compared to the Hawks (both under Stan and KD). The NTC highlighted above is an example - Stan does it with Cup winners and he's a dolt; Stevie does it with a good (not great) player, and it's "what all GM's do".

Stevie is now in his 3rd or 4th year of the rebuild, and only Montreal is behind Detroit in the division (as of yesterday). KD is ten minutes into his rebuild and this joint is already going bonkers, while Stevie remains the Golden Boy (who, BTW, just signed Maata, a guy Stan was lampooned for signing years ago).

That's the gist of it.

Hurricanes once again go shopping in the cut-out bin. Find Shayne Gostisbehere nestled between Foghat and Blue Oyster Cult 8-Track tapes.

Possibly eventually. I still thought Yzerman pushed his chips in a bit early with some of the signings he made in the offseason.
- HawkintheD

Yea D, one of the very interesting, no fascinating, things about any rebuild is when the GM decides it's the next phase. Not an easy call but something I like to watch for.

Making a difficult decision more so is often times the GM is pushed into changing his timeline by his bosses which of course can easily effect the rebuild...... Think it was Mo who mentioned that Danny's promoting and extending StanBow after 6 yrs of failure is that kinda signals patience on ownerships end.

Had not thought if it that way but maybe. Of course ole Rocky could waddle in and 86 those plans at any time in the future but at face value maybe Danny will give KD the runway needed, how ever long that is.

Look forward to the day that KD switches gears to win now.

Interesting Stevie decided to add a Copp, Perron, Chiarot and Fabbri (who I wanted the Hawks to draft instead of Schmaltz) and to a lesser extent Kubalik. The first 3-4 guys listed are gamers that youth can really learn from and aren't overly expensive. I liked the moves but then he trades Hronek today. I think he liked Hronek but could not pass up what VAN was offering. A 1st and 2nd, making 2 1sts and 3 2nds in a loaded/deep draft this yr may have been too much for Stevie to pass up.

Thought Vrana was a coup too but I guess not. Can't figure that out yet..... Will be watching what he does with Bertuzzi before, and after too, the deadline. When healthy a legit power forward.

I think this might be a more realistic return for Domi than most here think. He's a flawed player really. Really poor defensive numbers his whole career, not a true center and offensively spotty.

Can be useful though. Gritty, secondary scoring, plays at pace well enough. .... A 2nd would be marvelous but probably a 3rd is realistic IMO.

He's good for several "Holy Craps" every single game. Electric player. Imo, it would be good for the league for him to at least play for a Cup.

I wanted Dach more than Cozens during that draft (another reason it’s a damn good thing I’m not trying to make a living at hockey). I still maintain that had Dach been properly developed/slowly moved along - he’d be comparable with Cozens’ production now.

I think that Yzerman might be trying to trade up in the draft. They’re a bubble team right now. If they end up with the 14-17 pick and a very late first, maybe someone trades back and takes both picks so Steve can get ‘his’ guy similar to how he grabbed Seider despite most scouts having him later.
In a recent interview Yzerman said he wasn’t trying to win trades or sign guys for cheap, but simply trying to add good players when he could. So he could just be making a move he likes, but for some reason I think he’s trying to crack the top ten picks to finally get his star forward.

5 straight games with 2 goals.

If Bedard is even 80% the player McDavid is for the Hawks....

What in the hell is VAN doing trading their 1st and 2nd round picks? Aqualung the owner must be flip-flopping again with impatience?
