KD didn't misread things, Kane after the draft day deals decided hee was going to stick it to Davidson, and he did by being "torn" about leaving until KD lost all leverage. I am sure Brisson had a big hand in it too.

Hate to say it but it gives me a touch of wonder if Toews is not well enougt to play, or did Brisson have his hands on this so KD could not get a return on him at the TDL either.

Incorrect Dach was a good WHL player with an alleged NHL frame.

Korchinski is legitimately dominating. He has nothing else to gain playing against kids. He was excellent last year and consistently the best player on the ice now. He needs to take a step forward.

- fattybeef

And one is a 19-year-old defenseman and the other one was a 6'4 200 lb forward. He isn't making the Hawks and the management isn't going to make the same mistake. Bowman did

"First period, thought McCabe looked super nervous. A little slow on passes, at least three that weren’t turnovers but also weren’t completed, puck ended up coming Leafs way. I mean grade A chance, a penalty, dicey crosscheck on Nurse, was involved… really needs to settle in now."

Leafs are going to learn what we saw for about a year and a half.

No, just being observant. Have to question everything in a league led by Bettman.

I looked at the box score and NJ was pasting the Av's 5-1. Checked back 5 minutes later and now it's a 5-4 game. Av's with 3 goals in about 2 minutes. The goalies in the game have a cumulative 9 goals on 31 shots. Both appear to be backups though.

Heck of a game, much like those two games we played against the Stars.

It hasn’t been announced, but last year was May 10.

I did the draft lottery 10 times, the results were amazing:

4th - 5 times
5th - 5 times

Note: the Hawks had the 3rd best odds

Darth, have strong feeling we are getting Carlsson or Smith. Of course, it depends on if the Russian is taken.

Wondering how Bryam looks He is playing a lot after being injured for a while this season Kind of scary for Byram; he may have suffered a concussion.

Really rooting for Byram and Boqvist sort of players to show their ware before concussion ends their career

I used to despise the Wings, but that has cooled considerably since (1) the Hawks won three times, and (2) the Wings moved to the East.

I kinda like Stevie. He did a great job in Tampa, although he had some good fortune, too. What I enjoy highlighting is the exaggerated double standard used for him compared to the Hawks (both under Stan and KD). The NTC highlighted above is an example - Stan does it with Cup winners and he's a dolt; Stevie does it with a good (not great) player, and it's "what all GM's do".

Stevie is now in his 3rd or 4th year of the rebuild, and only Montreal is behind Detroit in the division (as of yesterday). KD is ten minutes into his rebuild and this joint is already going bonkers, while Stevie remains the Golden Boy (who, BTW, just signed Maata, a guy Stan was lampooned for signing years ago).

That's the gist of it.

I think that Yzerman might be trying to trade up in the draft. They’re a bubble team right now. If they end up with the 14-17 pick and a very late first, maybe someone trades back and takes both picks so Steve can get ‘his’ guy similar to how he grabbed Seider despite most scouts having him later.
In a recent interview Yzerman said he wasn’t trying to win trades or sign guys for cheap, but simply trying to add good players when he could. So he could just be making a move he likes, but for some reason I think he’s trying to crack the top ten picks to finally get his star forward.

- ObeseOprah

That's a good angle, Orca. There just may be a player DET/Stevie Y really covets and he's building the assets to move up and get him. We'll see.

Draft day, as someone mentioned here recently, will be like the Super Bowl for Hawk's fans the next few yrs.

I wanted Dach more than Cozens during that draft (another reason it’s a damn good thing I’m not trying to make a living at hockey). I still maintain that had Dach been properly developed/slowly moved along - he’d be comparable with Cozens’ production now.

Put me in this box too. I was paralyzed that draft on who they should take at #3. Thought they would go Zegras cuz he's the most Kane like player since Kane but I landed on Turcotte!!........ Not only that I didn't think Cozens' skills translated. Thought he was too stiff, too north-south, too predictable. .. Yeeeesh.

With the sheer volume of draft capital, and KD needing to not only ice a roster, but hit the cap floor, I wonder if he is considering offering a big deal to a RFA.

Chytil
Terry
K. Miller

Being a hockey GM is some tough stuff, imo, because there's so much that needs to be projected from 18 year-olds to the future 23 year-old. One is the desire to work at a level necessary to be great. Will their physical abilities continue to improve, or not? Will their skill set change when their body changes? The toughest, imo, is projecting whether the kid will have the mental processing speed to maximize his skills when he is playing against the best players in the world.

Tough task; one that requires plenty of skill and a good-sized dose of luck.

Couple factoids from the standings....

Boston has given up 129 goals, which is 25 better than the next best team (Carolina)

Boston has a goal differential of +97, which is 44 goals better than the Devils.

Al C (former poster here, and media guy) used to highly value those two data points. The Bruins are going to be a tough out in the playoffs.

If we were 1-2 years away from contending, I can see KD pulling the trigger on something like this. But he's still playing the long game, so I wouldn't expect anything of this nature. Why acquire the plethora of draft capital just to blow it on one player when you're still 4-5 years away from contending? You're gonna get Nick Holden, Andrew Cogliano, Justin Braun, and Pierre-Edouard Bellemare on bloated deals and you're gonna like it!

For sure, clearly the best team so far this season. Older team but lots of depth everywhere thru the lineup. And the way the playoffs are set up, they probably win 1st round easily vs Wild Card team in 4 or 5 games and watch NYR/Devils and Leafs/Tampa beat the hell out of each other.

The only thing you don't know about playoffs - playing up to 7 consecutive games vs the same team doesn't happen during regular season.
