No but it's the most realistic thing I could come up with looking at a lot of teams cap situations. We've probably missed the boat on a Hayes trade for now.

Indeed I did. I think the best case scenario if the Flyers wanna trade Hayes is probably something close to that. I'd need at least two guaranteed 2nds coming back and something else small to sweeten the pot (like Lycksell for Lind).

Otherwise I'd rather just keep Hayes and accept the reality he's a little overpaid but still productive.

No, he's correct. Capfriendly is showing Deslauries buried.

This is why guys like Deslauries are given extra term in FA when an organization likes them and deems them reliable. They can be turned into 15th forward very easily without much of a cap penalty. The term typically prevents other teams looking for depth from grabbing him as you move him up and down. Spacing out their salary over more years also makes it easier to front load and then easier to buy out if that gives you more flexibility down the line.
