Said he didn’t understand the extent of unnecessary, entitled people around the dressing room when he took the job.
Said he didn’t know about the dysfunction in the training staff as well as lawsuits.
Said he believes the chain of command is NOW Scott, Fletcher, than him. Implying their were other voices in between.

Somebody better tell Torts what happened to Hexy when he cut the alumni out of the loop

Well based on what Fletcher stated the other day, you are getting what you have wished for, the Flyers drafting and developing. I'm fine with it as long as Fletcher also frees up cap space, so if there is a deal to be made the Flyers can at least be legitimately in on it.
- jd250

That's a fair assessment to make. That while drafting and developing, start creating some cap space. Identify who won't be here for the next "core window" and remove them when the opportunity arises.

I kind of said this with the canucks but it might apply to the flyers too. I don't know how long it's been these players around, but it's kind of like the leafs when they had Kessel/JVR/Bozak. They weren't terrible players individually but the collective of that team they just didn't work. For whatever reasons it didn't so they had to fix it. Flyers could be that. TK/Sanheim/Provo all could be decent players but they don't work altogether so time to move on.

The Flyers are the pre-Shanny Leafs. So many parallels.

He knew imo. He did his homework.

He saw 16 million and not one other team showing any interest. He is just buying himself more time by saynig it.

Similar to the conversations here too

It only makes me feel better that fans of other teams feel/felt the same as fans of the leafs. What's sad about it is the teams take FOREVER to see how much the fans want something/just want to see real competition and to stop being sold a false idea of competitive.

Yeah, the Flyers need to realize that the hole is just getting deeper and deeper as each season passes.

They need a Shanny figure to kick all the meddlers/grifters out of the room and put up a firewall between corporate and hockey ops. Then just do the hard work of building a team back up, the right way, from the ground up, no shortcuts. And for the love of god, put the Bullies glory days to bed and fully embrace 21st century hockey and team management.

My vote would be Chris Pronger in the Shanny role. Everybody is intimidated by him and his rep around here is unimpeachable.

Looking like the Flyers are sitting this trade deadline out. Maybe Fletcher has overplayed his hand a bit with the little he has, but then again I really don't blame him. Its not Fletcher's job to help other teams get better so he should demand as much as he can for what little he has. JVR, Braun and Brown just don't add much to another team at this point, just like they add little to the Flyers. They are all off the books after this season, so if Fletcher does not trade them does it really matter? I'm not going to miss the 4th or 6th round pick anyway. Heard LA is interested in Provey but Fletcher asked for Byfield in return, if true, again good for Fletcher. Screw LA, if they want Provey they are going to have to pay a steep price. That's the way it should be.

I would rather have something than nothing, absolutely. There's no moral victory to walking away empty handed.

I would love to see Pronger here but why would he come and why would he be hired if those making the hiring decisions stand to lose the most.

I don't get why the Penguins hired Hextall in the first place. When they hired him, I figured they were going to start rebuilding not keep hanging on for one last chance. Whether it was good or not he had a track record for clearing space and gathering picks. There is no record on him building up a contending team.

If you want a break from the Flyers misery, go read the comments on the Penguins blog......

There was no track record of him clearing space and gathering picks before the Flyers hired him.

That is true, but the end of his tenure, what was the biggest complaint (besides the office environment)?

What's the biggest issue with him in Pittsburgh over the years?

There's a reason why same teams deal with each other. The Flyers don't just need a new GM, they need a respected around the league GM.

If the Flyers wanted to dump a salary of 1yr/5.8m while retaining 50%...what do you think it would cost them? Do you really think it would only cost them a 7th? I wouldn't be surprised if it would cost them a 1st or 2nd.

- Glak18

I don't really buy the respect angle. I want new blood. Not a respected retread for a GM. Same with the coach.

You'd hope that Spectacor would eventually reach the limit of their patience (like MLSE did) and just do a hard self-assessment that paves the way for a house cleaning.

I'm not holding my breath tho.

Sounds like Torts and Chuck will be trusted to oversee this latest "rebuild". Torts said that they met w/ Scott last Sunday and they're all on the same page now. Oh boy.
