A 5th and a 6th round pick is NOT a bad haul for the trade deadline by any stretch. The goal was for this team to get younger and get higher level talent. Now they have two more licks at the apple to do that.

FWIW... speculation on NHL radio was that the JVR deal was contingent on Detroit moving another player, which did not happen.

I think Flyers overvalued JVR. Were shocked by the lack of interest, and the quality of return being offered. I would not be surprised at all to find out that Chuck did JVR a solid by not making him move for return that he really didn't want to accept anyway. Would rather do right by a good soldier like JVR

We've reached a boiling point where it's become plainly obvious that Fletcher needs to go. Just several months ago, he was saying that the Flyers were only 5 points out from a playoff spot...a not so subtle hint that the team in his opinion was closer to competing than the fanbase broadly speaking believed. Fast-forward to last week and CF is now admitting in so many words that the team is not ready for a push and essentially needs to re-build.

To go from that one position to now so shortly shows that a) CF was bordering on delusional b) because of a), he's purely reactive instead of pro-active. A very bad combination in a GM. He got caught behind the 8 Ball when Torts admitted to everyone that the team was not ready to compete and he was left scrambling in the dying week(s) of the TDL. Enough's enough

Did you see the names on who got traded today? Plenty of so-so guys get moved at the deadline. You can't keep making excuses for a GM to not try to upsell his guys.

EDIT: As Bruce Boudreau said on TSN. He would have taken an 8th round pick for JVR. Likely a 9th for Braun.

CF could have traded JVR 2 weeks ago for a 3rd at the least. Just like last year he waited until everyone was done and then he tried. What an incompetent GM.

Agreed. Not only that, overplayed their hand and then other sellers entered the market in the past week and a bit and they didn't drop their price fast enough.
