TSN did a fake draft lottery:

Columbus won 1st and Vancouver moved up to 2nd.

I want the Flyers to win so bad, but I also know that could save Fletcher. I'm torn, but not really.

- Glak18

Saw they have the Flyers at 8? Seems about right.

Well, someone else would get to make that move

No, you said they could move Greenway later. It would probably end the same like today.

We need to check ourselves here. I think it's quite possible that Fletcher passed up a low ball offer for JVR at some point. Hoping that he would get a better offer. So if you think that is worthy of criticism, then that would be fair. However this idea that it's his job to make something happen. Trades just don't work like that. What should he use a jedi mind trick on another GM? He didn't have much to trade and there wasn't heavy interest in anything they had to deal in terms of a deadline move. Other GM's have a say and it takes at least two teams to make a trade. Expectations set too high seems to be an issue.

No, I don’t think that is fair. My floor of expectation was a fourth rounder for anyone, any deal plus a few late rounders. Package, JVR, Seeler…whatever. He got the late rounders, but nothing better. It’s a D- at best.

I'm kind of hoping and expecting the Flyers not to fall below 7, unless someone behind them pushes them back. I don't see them making it in the top 5 either. 7-8 is probably right. They can draft someone decent, but it's going to take a few years to see them and knowing the Flyers they will develop them until they are 24.

Unless you think that was directed specifically at you then yes, it is fair. So you realistically think by sweetening the deal with Seeler would change a GM's mind to take JVR?

If a man can sit in front of the media and tell them all how bad he did and the mistakes he made then have the nerve to tell everyone he isn't worried about his job...well he's probably safe.

Well you also have to believe everything that comes out of his mouth too. He didn't throw any teams out there so no one has any reason to come forward, but just because he said it went a certain way doesn't mean it did either. So he's safe to say anything he wants as long as he doesn't throw another team under the bus.

Everything he has stated so far does not add up to go together. There are lies in there, but which ones are the biggest.

- Glak18

I think there is a bit of a semantics game going on. When he said no firm offers on JVR, I think he was referring to today. My guess is that at some point, Fletcher turned down an offer for JVR because he didn't like the offer. Hoping that at some point he would get a better offer that never came.

I didn't find anything he said to be unbelievable.

Not surprising that there was no market for JVR.

Context is important with that. I just listened to it. He didn't say that in terms of thinking he has job security. He said he's not worried about his job and whatever happens to him, happens.

I’m saying he needs to start getting assets for expiring contracts and anyone not in the long term plan. There was a minimum threshold to what Fletcher had available, and he didn’t even trip over it. He put himself here with trading away so many picks in the first place. It’s fair to say this was a subpar deadline for the Flyers.

It’s just that it’s so hard to believe that no one would take JVR with all the accommodations CF said he was willing to make. CF said something like, he received two calls from teams kicking the tires on JVR and made 17 calls trying to sell him. Maybe he’s just a bad salesman?

It's not a magical fantasy land where you can do whatever you want. It's the NHL and in order to move a player and get a future asset. You need a buyer. You can't trick, sell or cajole another team to take a player. I thought that JVR would be traded for a 3rd or 4th rounder but other than that. About what I expected from the Flyers deadline.

We will find out in the offseason with JvR, if some team signs him than that narrative gets thrown out the window. I wouldn't be surprised one bit if he gets a 1yr and we are talking about JvR dealt at the TDL this time next year.

I don't get this salesman angle. I really don't. Every NHL team has a pro scouting department that goes around to watch the players on other teams. I'm not sure how a GM is expected to "sell" a player in which there is little interest.

One thing I'm curious about that Fletcher mentioned in his presser were other trades he didn't make because they weren't good for the Flyers. It'd be interesting to hear who he did get offers on.

Lets face it. JVR is useless unless he on a hot streak (which have become rare this year). He has no speed, can't check, not physical, can't kill penalties. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt on the PPlay because the team as a whole sucked. But I don't know if he still has the skills. If your a playoff team do you want him as your 3rd line LW? I don't!

I'll never believe there was NO market. If hosers like MacEwen and Brown can find new homes, so could the dyke.

To come away empty handed with the only trade chip you had is reprehensible.

I agree. Fletcher is a master politician. Are we to believe other GMs just called to see if JVR was available? When Fletcher said "yes", the other GMs said thanks and then hung up the phone. "Firm offer" is just word salad. I can accept Fletcher being bad at his job and in over his head. Only 32 GM jobs, someone has to be the worst. The gaslighting really annoys me.

I believe Chuck when he says the offers weren't good, but who actually drew interest? What did teams think they could get the Flyers to accept? I'm so starved of anything interesting to engage with concerning this team, lol.

At the end of the day, $7M against the cap is hard for any contender to swallow. There were way easier targets out there that didn't require a bunch of cap gymnastics.

Not a reflection on JVR as a player.
