I thought I was the ultimate flyers fan. A fan since 1970.
Bad team
No talent
Capped out
Nothing to trade to better the team
I don't know if I can follow this team anymore. It's heartbreaking.

they have always been a cap team. Always. why do you keep mentioning that like they weren't?

Also what grade would you give Ronald in what will be his last trade deadline as the Pens GM

- hello it's me 2050

The Flyers were not a cap team when Hextall was GM, one thing he succeeded at was getting the Flyers out of cap hell. When Fletcher took over the team the Flyers had plenty of cap space, $13 million.

It's not a magical fantasy land where you can do whatever you want. It's the NHL and in order to move a player and get a future asset. You need a buyer. You can't trick, sell or cajole another team to take a player. I thought that JVR would be traded for a 3rd or 4th rounder but other than that. About what I expected from the Flyers deadline.
- MJL

Thanks for admitting that Fletcher’s deadline fell short of even your expectations.

That was the main someone the Flyers had to sell. Something would have been better than nothing, and there may be something to the “not-many willing to deal with the Flyers conspiracy theory.”

One thing that is very important in trades is leverage. One thing the Flyers and Fletcher in particular are very bad at. After moving on from Hextall and announcing to the entire league that they thought with a few moves they could be right back in and that they want to be a cap team. Other GM's ears perked up and it was like sheep to the wolves. When you trade from a standpoint of having to make a deal. Chances are you aren't going to make a good deal. I knew when Fletcher dealt for Ellis and got a RH top pairing defenseman that cheap. Something didn't smell right. Same with Ristolainen and how he had to have him and outbid other teams. Buffalo was licking their chops. The Flyers have put themselves in that position far too often. I told another poster when those moves were made, including Atkinson who believed the Flyers were on the path to the cup. That those moves were more likely to hurt the Flyers than help them. It's a pretty sad affair when the fans seem to know more than the GM.

And what moves have put the nail in the coffin? Dare I say risto extentension and coots extension

For poops and giggles considering how bad this team blows… I’d gladly give Connor and Matthews both max deals and field the rest of team as possible. Would be more interesting than this crap

Ahh, the Edmonton approach. Works well.

A fan since 75-76 season when I went to my first game. I, and pretty much almost of us, are feeling the same way. The saddest thing is I’m no longer angry. I fear I am becoming completely indifferent. Invested so much in to this team for almost 50 years and the feeling is this organization just doesn’t give a poop about it’s fans or it’s brand and clearly is completely ignorant as to how to run an NHL franchise. The Flyers are irrelevant in the NHL.

No one wanted to give up a 3rd for him. Not unlike the Wild. No one wanted Dumba so they will let him walk.

That's the worst thing. I used to get upset and depressed if the Flyers got knocked out of the playoffs. Regular season losses where they played like crap, stuck in my craw. I'll never root for them to loose but when they do now. It's no big deal. This franchise is so dysfunctional and poorly run that apathy sets in. Or is it withdrawing in disgust.

The deadline as a whole did not. I wasn't expecting much. Sometimes I wonder if there is something wrong with the memory of Flyers fans. In the recent past, the Flyers were able to trade with Buffalo, Columbus, Nashville, Carolina, Florida. Now because they didn't trade JVR. There may be something to the "not-many willing to deal with the Flyers conspiracy theory".

1. then switch the pick. you get the gist

2. excuses it still can work. you know this.

3. wrong 100%. getting something for him is a win. even if trading a 5th to get a 4th. try again.

4. who give s poop about the fanbase when trading a UFA to be. you take what you can get. simple as that.

- hello it's me 2050

IIRC Chuck said the cost to retain in his presser: 3rd-round pick.

You just traded a 3rd for a 4th. Good job.

That's the bar that I usually use. Where does a team rank up against the Flyers. McDavid has been in the league for 8 years and Draisaitl 9 years. They haven't got it done. The best team wins.

It is known. It’s absolutely a nail. Sadly could’ve been such a big jumpstart to a rebuild

Will we continue to hear about what Ron Hextall did 5 years ago? Does today not top Chuck Fletcher off as this franchise’s worst GM ever?

That’s not what I said. I said for poops and giggles sign Connor and Matthews. Not some rookie or as a plan to try to implement. If in a couple years they both Fa it was just scenario because this team blows. Look at it this way. Which team would be better. The flyers with whatever they do next few years scenario. Or. Sign Connor and Matthews max deals and full roster out?

Ummmm only a dum dum would choose go with the Philly roster

I’m truly curious since we all know you will die on the coots hill. If he’s out for the next 6 years and comes back in last year of deal and semi produces does that mean he wasn’t a nail?

That doesn't make any sense. My post was a follow up to your Edmonton comment. Your last sentence is incoherent.

You have to build a complete team. Signing two players to almost 40% of the cap is not a good idea.
