If Tyler Motte is unable to play in tomorrow’s game in Boston, it will count as the #NYR’s first emergency contest. So they won’t be able to call anybody up until the Montréal game.
I don't really see that hit as much different than a lot of the ones Trouba throws that everyone (incorrectly) whines about. He hit him square and the shoulder was the initial contact as far as I can tell, so the head contact is irrelevant (unfortunate, obviously) and I don't think he left his feet until the follow through which has been pretty consistently not considered leaving the feet.

If trouba did this to someone i would call it out in a heartbeat. what he did to crosby was illegal and suspendible. Every other trouba hit was nothing like this

I mean, Trouba's feet came off the ice and he hit Dal Colle in the head and concussed him. No suspension there either. And the way that rule is written it was the right call.
Partly. But also, how can they not grant they a skater vs Boston being down 3 players potentially. How is that not an emergency? - tomburton99
Well we have 2 injuries and a suspension. We're supposed to be able to carry 23 players but can't because of what we did to ourselves. Think about it if it were another team that was in this scenario. (frank) em I'd say. You play with fire you're bound to get burned

That was shoulder on shoulder. Pause it and screenshot it where you see contact with the head. I got it at 50 seconds exactly when contact is made and it's shoulder on shoulder. Or where his feet came off the ice before contact. Forget about the watson hit for a second. let's just be real here

Hey, Ive defended some of Wilson's hits against you so I'm certainly not a homer, but that was a straight up head shot And him leaving his feet was to drive his head into the boards. It wasn't a momentum thing like in open ice hits

I mean, his head moves before literally any other part of his body. And I didn't say his feet came off the ice before contact, that was my point. Watson's didn't either.

I mean it's not like I'm just saying it because he is a Ranger either. Reaves' hit on whoever it was on DET was clean and people (in general) were all up in arms about that one too
And having an issue with the rule itself is a whole different thing, but as-written I don't see it as really breaking that rule.

that is shoulder on shoulder. look at the picture you posted lol. am i on crazy pills?
it's more than fair to discuss whether those types of devastating open ice hits need to be mitigated, but that was an elbow tucked, feet on the ice (i know you said that), should to shoulder hit.
Watson crunched motte into the boards with his elbow shooting up into mottes face. also, while technically watson's feet left the ice after contact, he was in the process of jumping into him. it was dirty and intentional

I don't totally understand how getting hit in the shoulder and not hitting your head on the ice gives you a concussion. And again, I'm not even criticizing Trouba for the hit. I think the right call was made.
Watson's should objectively hit Motte first and the elbow came up later. I mean, look at Tom's screenshot. It's clearly his shoulder.

When did this one happen? I don't remember it.
Regardless, from what you're showing, it looks bad to me.
I don't see any reason to defend the Watson hit, though. I think he pretty clearly made contact with the head first. And after hitting the head with his shoulder, he proceeded to make contact with the head again with his elbow.
I'm not making a judgement on a length of suspension. But, I thought kicking him from the game was justified.
