If Matthews does not re-sign and somehow becomes a UFA, they are all in to try and get him to join the Sabres.
There's a connection with Tage and Matthews that they believe helps, and they know the impact it would have on Matthews current team.
It's part of the reason why they're trying to maintain as much cap space as possible going forward. - kingcong39

Don't hold your breath.
GMKA: Savoie and Kulich were "non-starters".... Adds, "I'm really excited about our prospect pool -- and so is the rest of the league because there were a lot of questions." - Powerslave

Rivet called VO the softest player ever to wear a Sabre uniform. I think he's probably right. - Lunaion
It would be a baker's dozen of games if Olofsson does not score a goal tomorrow.
I remember when the speculation was about Olofsson maybe getting 40 goals, before his recent drought.
Will he even get 30? |

This week was a strong reminder how hard it is to trade for D. Learning opportunity for KA. I'm sure he listened and took notes. - Lunaion
Also a reminder how difficult it is to make any kind of trade for a top quality impact player without a good defense prospect in your system to use as a trade chip. |

I could deal with him getting cold, but we know it's not just shooting with him. His effort dips, the soft D starts leading to chances and goals, stops getting to the net....vicious cycle with him. Don't think the increased stakes/intensity of these games does him any favors.
Time to move on from a couple guys this summer, but also easy just to do nothing. No clue which way they are leaning.

he didn't get rentals which is a good thing
if greenway is a middle 6 fixture he filled one hole in the lineup for the next 2 years - homiedclown
Klingberg went for virtually nothing (who cares about a 4th round pick 2 years from now?), and Gostisbehere the same (a 3rd round pick 3 years from now).
They have a dire need and it is painfully obvious that Jokiharju isn't the answer.
IMO, they should've brought in a rental like one of the two above for the minimal cost each went for.
Instead, they seem to be hoarding 6/7/8 type defenseman. |

I think the HB Penguins blogger said it very well on Twitter a few days ago when the idea of Boeser was brought up as a trade idea. The same applies to Olofsson when he isn't scoring, and how his entire game crumbles as a result.
I have no interest in Boeser. The way he's been going if he isn't scoring he isn't helping. I need players who can provide value when the goals dry up. Because the goals eventually dry up for stretches of time for every player in the league

Well somewhat, are Forwards weren't the only thing that were asked for and kept trades from happening. We have 1 Dman who is young and under contract long term that was also wanted in a couple trades, but we don't have the depth to make that trade. Would have been a lateral move instead of strengthening are Top4 |

Yes. But, even I said earlier in the year, when he hits 5 games without a goal you have to think about benching him a game or two. At 12.... well it tells you what "one of the best analytics teams in hockey" thought of Asplund.
I'd think of reuniting Jost and Mitts with Vic if he's immune to the press box. And, why is he? Don is a soft coach. I don't think anyone can deny that. He always let's guys play through mistakes. It does work. We all got pissed at Vic when he went 8 games without a goal earlier in the year, and then he carried us through January. Yet, he wasn't dealt. Ek, at least (probably very least) claimed about 100 times in his pod the Sabres were trying to get Tom Wilson. Who knows?
If Greenway comes in balls to the wall, he makes all of our soft forwards better. He gives Peyton Krebs and Dylan Cozens bigger sacks. But, that's only if he comes in raging. Don has got to get that out of him, and if he really pounded the table for him then he at least believes he can.
So, something like:
53 - 72 - 22
18 - 24 - 29/77
71 - 17 - 37
28 - 19 - 21
Dahlin eligible to play today. Will the shark be on the prowl?
26 - 10/23
25 - 10/23
61 - 46
No Dahlin, it looks a lot worse
25 - 10/23
61 - 46/23
78 - 10/46 Anyway you shake it without Dahlin it's rough. That right side. |

On March 4, 1972 the Sabres traded Eddie Shack to the Penguins for Rene Robert. |

Carried us through January, such Bullsh!t!! He helped but it wasn't just him. The guy has scored 18 of his goals in a 22gm rage. In January when he went on a tear, 9 goals in Eleven games. Tuch, Tage, Cozens, and a few others were all pretty warm at that stretch themselves. So stop with he carried us. He blows other than when he goes on a 10 game bender. Which only happens twice a year. |

we're not in a playoff race if he doesn't go on that tear. like or not. And, I've said multiple times this year he should be benched. I'm simply not going to let him get the Risto treatment. Maybe if we had goalies and defensemen who played defense, but we don't. I'm not blaming a small, soft role-playing forward who scores 20+ goals every year for being the reason the worst defensive team in the league lets up goals. |

What ? Sure are Defense isn't good, but when Olofsson isn't atleast scoring he is a big problem with that defensive problem. Fantastic he is scoring 20 goals, but when he does it in a 22gm bender, there's still 60 games left, and he is bad or disappears for a large portion of those. |

I’m not trying to take their side, I’m just expressed an opinion as to why they didn’t do as you hoped.
Maybe they did try to go get a goalie, and the ask was “inflated”, none of us know.
Who was really available that’s any good? Nashville was never going to trade Saros.
Did Gibson change his mind, and if so, what did Anaheim ask in return?
Chycrun? Idk, maybe it’s just me being leery cuz every down here drooling over the South Florida boy as if he’s Bobby Orr, jr. But, I have my doubts about him. - Ratsreign
An A for effort is what you get when you're a little kid as a lesson from your parents.
Professional sports are about results, and that extends from on the ice all the way to management.
If the goaltending situation and defense continues to be an issue into next season, that's a big problem. |

The idea floating around that Ottawa's 1st this year is much more valuable than ours makes me laugh. - Lunaion
Read that too and laughed loudly.
My best guess is Ottawa was willing to only top 5 protect their pick (in case they miss the playoffs and win one of the lotteries), while the Sabres weren't willing to go that far, or were even willing to include their 23 1st. |

Where's the coaching staff? Olofsson has been the same player his entire cateer. If they can't see when he's hot or cold and play him accordingly that's on Granato and Ellis. |

In 2yrs the Sabres should be able to roll 4 lines of Speed Forecheck and scoring. They have that kind of talent coming up, plus basically 5 out 6 spots in your top 6 are already taken for atleast 4yrs. Krebs Kulich Savoie Ostlund Rosen Nadeau Rousek, this year's 1st or 2nds are gonna be your bottom 6 to start. - Buff36
Isn't it for the next 3 seasons as that'll be the point when Tuch's current highly valuable deal will end? |
