Analytics take emotions out of player judgement.
I think that’s a pretty underrated pushback to the anti-analytics crowd.
“Analytics are subjective” yet so are the opinions of people who judge with their eyes.
Victor Hedman is a first ballot hall of famer, he’s also having a rough 2022/2023 season.
Both can be true |

Noticed hedman pair with bogo for a good portion of the game.
I see the Sabres pairing power with a meathead that he can cover for, and the meathead adding muscle /protection.

Do they though? People see what they want to see. There's no such thing as an analytics robot making decisions. It's very much like poker and GTO. There's what the solver would do and then what humans actually do; even if they try and play as close to GTO as possible. There are always holes in any analytic. The job is to spot them better than the next guy. |

There will be tracking error in anything, however, you can same the same about the eye test too.
Just like there are good and bad hockey players, there are good and bad scouts.
Also emotion dictates logic, not the other way around.
The best decision makers use all of the information they have available to them.
But there are still scouts and GM’s that drool over the Erik Gudbransons and Ben Chiarot’s of the world because of misguided ideologies, and wonder why they are getting caved in on a nightly basis.
The analytics only show data points, doesn’t take into account who the player is, what the player has accomplished, and just judges a player by what’s happening on the ice.
I’d argue analytics has much less tracking error then the average human because of that |

Mitts, Cozens, Vinny has been a decent 2nd line. Any chance Greenway doesn't simply swap in for Vinny and we see a significant lineup change? Recent performance says yes, but Donnie has resisted sitting certain guys all year. Is it time? |

I think JJ or Olofsson should be up in the presser… |

I think we all appreciate him but it should be stated how good Power is going to end up being. T be as good as he is now at 19, playing the minutes he plays is really u heard of. Hom and Dahlin are going to do special things. We need one more top 4 d (why I wanted chychrun so much). They guy we drafted in third rd last year (rhd) has a chance to be special but it’ll take a couple of years. He had 5 points last night

I really like kyle okposo the person, he is getting excruciatingly slower. Painful to watch him backcheck or try and breakaway.
Obviously the Sabres do not bench the captain, I think the same goes for the guy they just paid 4.75m .....
Quinn looks like such a professional goal scorer already. |

Yeah, as much as I’d love to see Vic sit for a few games it will never happen due to his presence on PP1.
Greenway-Krebs-Olofsson with JJ taking a view upstairs for a game makes sense.
Could also see JJ taking Vinny’s spot on the Cozens line and him hitting the press box.
Guess we’ll find out |

Gotta be peterka right? Maybe krebs every other game?
Although krebs really does what it takes to stay in the lineup. He's the poster boy for utility knife player. |

Comfortable with those reasons? Don't you have to do what's best to try to win at this point?

The deal was Savoie, Samuelsson and a 1st for Chychrun and Adams said that Savoie was off-limits as was Ostlund. Just like I said the deal was and Adams told Armstrong to go pound sand. - SABRES 89 rightfully so

comes down to who is providing more overall value in the moment. my guess is, that's kyle.
plus this org is comfortable benching rookies, and it works. |

I'm not sure greenway scores more goals than olofsson the remainder of the season.
He has 2 goals in 40+ games this season.
That's not a winning move |

I know you like kyle too, this is his last ride......
I'm 99% sure okposo will not be on this team next year, unless he's nursing an injury of some sort? |

It’s playoff hockey the rest of the season.
I don’t think based on what we’ve seen the last month, that Vic has that game in him. But like what’s been posted the rookie sits first.
Greenway is playing every game the rest of the way. They don’t trade for him to sit him. |

Good post
I could see olofsson get moved in the offseason, the streakyness has to be a grind on management as well.
Tampa was very dirty again today. Sabres responded. |
