I'm not rushing to any judgement. I've seen them both play in a Flyers uniform. Neither is particularly good defensively down low and in the corners but Gostisbehere was solid in defending the blueline and breaking up plays with good reads on the rush. DeAngelo is just poor all around defensively. Very similar offensively. That gives the edge to Gostisbehere.

made comments in the past, Ghost didnt get enough credit for how he read the play and broke them up prior to D zone entrance, why I was never on the trade Ghost train. Ghost is what he is, a 3rd pair PP specialist, it will be interesting to see what he is on a well constructed team

more hardened fan? can you elaborate as to what that means. would love to hear that.

Yes it was proven years ago. I will ask you again when was the last they they both scored 30 goals? Company speak from Boucher. Farbee has regressed.

Boucher also said if Laughton was available teams would be lining up. So I wonder if he was not made available by the keystone cops.

Hardened fan simply means that I have been a Flyers fan since their Cup victories (first game attended was in the 1975 playoffs against the Laffs and second was against the Habs in the Finals that year). Been through lots of ups and downs over the years. Saw some great hockey and some heart breaking losses in person. That's all....nothing more and nothing less. I don't consider Boucher to be a Flyers apologists. He is more of a national guy now, but still has Flyers roots of course. I'm not a big fan of Laughts, but he would be a player that teams would covet come playoff time.

I think Laughts should have been moved at the TDL for the right deal. He is a good piece, but who knows what offers CF would get, I can't help but feel the good teams look at CF and the players who they might want and think the players are damaged goods.

Ghost is a better player than Angelo and always has been. He is better on both sides of the puck and always has been.

Ghost's issues here were injury and confidence related. Vigneault hated him and had no idea how to use him. His knee injuries robbed him of his mobility. And with it his confidence. Every mistake he made, even when other players did the same, got him stapled to the bench or scratched the next game.

He got bitter and rightfully so.

The worst part is that Vigneault was fired not long after.

It was one of Chuck's worst blunders in a long list of blunders.

Yep. Depends on the depth of the team. On Carolina, 3rd pair and PP. On other teams he can play 2nd pair.

It is very unlikely that the Flyers are a playoff team next year. It is very unlikely that they add any player in the upcoming draft that will immediately upgrade the team.
- MJL

I didn't say anything about next year. I said the Flyers will be better next year and if they infuse the team with young top-end talent within a couple of years they will be a playoff team. My point is the Flyers have a good core group that just needs to top-end talent to push them to the next level.

Pretty much this.

I will add, as others have mentioned, he's very good at reading the play in the neutral zone and preventing the opponent from gaining the offensive zone. In the defensive zone, when paired with conscientious forwards and a decent partner, he's adequate. But paired with four guys who chase the puck at half speed, he gets exposed (as do most players).

Vigneault definitely didn't know what to do with him as they had acquired Niskanen specifically to be paired with Provorov.

It is not the first time that the Flyers have traded players that got into a coach's doghouse and within a season ended up firing that coach (not that other teams haven't done the same thing).

I guess we'll get a chance to see what Gostisbehere can do on a well constructed team. While it was before injuries impacted his mobility a bit, he seemed to hold his own during the World Cup. My suspicion is that he'll do just fine.
