Winning teams like montreal play a system and draft players who fit in that system… not necessarily the most talanted. Hawks need to do the same. - LFS
Winning teams like MTL? Winning what exactly?
You referring to those 70’s teams? |

Ottawa has a good young team that played like crap last night. If the NHL ever reinstates Q, that might be a perfect fit for him. Don’t let one game fool you, they’re really not that far away. |

Dorion is doing a nice job with that team, Chychrun was a nice pick up. now they have to make a decision on ADB. They locked up their young guys and have some solid veterans. Not sure they have the high end talent to be contenders but they will be competitive. |

Ottawa needs goaltending. Once they got rid of Anderson, their goaltending has been a merrygoround. |

Definitely and added depth won’t hurt. Yesterday they needed a few brain transplants. I lost count of the number of two on ones. |

I watch a good bit of OTT. They are fast and swarm, fun brand to watch. ... What I saw last night was a perfect structure win. Hawks created a lot from causing turnovers from taking away time and space and then transitioned. Created a lot of loose pucks then won them with speed/compete.
The structure really frustrated OTT and to think LR has had many of these guys for a few days!! Makes me think LR's systems are simple and easy to understand.
Guttman seems a perfect fit. I can't help isolating on that kid. He reads really well and jumps from spot to spot taking away time and space causing quick decisions while taking away options. .... His shifts always seem to affect play in some way. |

Interesting the Hawks didn't do a paper transaction to have Gutman eligible for the playoffs like they did with Reichel. Maybe the plan is to have him play for the US in the Worlds?

I was a little surprised with how unimpressed i was with Sanderson. I know he's young. |

I'm not aware of this. This mean Guttman can't go back down and play in the playoffs for RKF?....... Also, with regular NHL minutes and seemingly a role and his effectiveness if it's better to leave Guttman up with the big club?
Speaking of with the NHL roster so depleted I wonder how that will affect who won't go back to RKF for the playoffs due to the need for warm bodies in Chicago? |

The Hawks sent down Seney, Phillips, Gust so they are in Rockford and qualify. They did a paper transaction on Reichel so he qualifies. They did not do a paper transaction on Guttman, that is my only guess, they want him on the big club, andthey are going to make sure he plays in the worlds.
Also I think Gutman was kept up, because you only get so many transactions up and down from the farm after the trade deadline.

Watching this team is not bad. That is a credit to KD and LR.
Watching the Colliton teams you just wanted to gouge your eyes out. |

Although former Blackhawk and journeyman goaltender Forsberg had performed well He is an injury waiting to happen though and it seems each year |

Chychrun is a huge add. A legit 2 way minute eating 1st pairing Dman. Really happy this is where he landed at this time with the arrow pointing straight up for an OTT club full of young talent... As the saying goes the domino effect of adding him allows the rest of the D to be slotted properly. This put Sanderson in the 2nd pairing with Zub and Chabot paired with Chychrun giving the Sens legit 2 pairing/top 4, also dropping Branstrom to 3rd pairing ....... I watched the OTT feed last night and at intermission Cheryl Pounder did a great job articulating his addition and the Sens overall. Big fan of that lady's hockey mind.
You bring up an interesting point about the Sen's top end talent or lack thereof. ... IMO Stutzle at 21 will be elite. Same with Tkachuk and Chychrun. IMO 3 legit elite players.
Chabot and probably Josh Norris a tier below as very good hockey players. Batherson maybe in that range and it looks like Pinto may get to this level giving them Stutzle, Norris and Pinto as a nice top 3 centermen. I really like Sanderson's game. IMO his floor is a very good player with a chance to be near elite. No, the 20 yr old didn't have his best game yesterday but if you see the Sens for even a small stretch the 6ft 2in 5th overall pick kid impresses.
And of course we know Dcat. Is he elite? At least a tier below if not elite. And of course Giroux is an excellent vet with a lot of hockey left in him and a guy the youngsters will learn from........... I also think Dman Branstrom bumped down to 3rd pairing is a useful weapon. Brings speed/pace/offense to a 3rd pairing.
Do they have enough elite/high end talent? Maybe, maybe not but they're close IMO. |

Saw in the Sens thread someone counted 32 odd man breaks for the hawks. that would be an amazing number and i don't believe but the sens were very out of sorts after the hawks had 3 goals on 6 shots. |

They do, but IMO OTT's only weaknesses are experience and goaltending. They can afford to address goaltending and think they will. |

Just read on another site Guttman was a bit disappointed to not be eligible for the AHL playoffs but is aware the hawks have other plans for him. Mainly playing in the Worlds like you mentioned. |

Thanks, LA........ Glad to see Phillips go down and get big minutes and hopefully a couple rounds in the playoffs. |
