Probably not. I just don’t see the need - sbroads24
Agree, I am hard on Mitts but would rather keep him over Olofsson |

Flip side is that the front office made a decision that he isn't a long term piece when they drafted 4 1st round F's, then just reaffirmed by telling us they wouldn't consider moving them.
Have to trade an F for a D soon. Just of a matter of who and when. Everything KA has done and said says VO and Mitts are top of their list. Playing well makes that trade a lot easier to make. - Lunaion
I don’t see VO and Mitts being comparable in this sense.
They’ve given Mitts every opportunity and he’s ran with it since December. When they have injuries he’s moved up and down the lineup, they use him as the extra F at times when needing a goal, and he’s played both PK/PP at times.
There is absolutely 0 rush to make a move on him unless Adams truly never wants to win and just wants every year to be a developmental season.
Because Kulich or Rosen aren’t stepping in and giving you that production next year |

casey plays well with cozens
not sure why they did not move him to the wing in previous years when he was stuggling |

Played well with Jost too, and was fine with Thompson in a small sample.
I think people act like we should never have a player enter UFA
If they keep Mitts for 2 more years while guys develop and he ends up a 26-27 year old UFA that’s absolutely fine |

Might be worth more in a trade at that time to. |

Yeah, this team should be completely over selling anyone. It should be all hands on deck from here on out.

If Kulich/Savoie are here next year, you wouldn't be asking them to replace Mitts, you're asking them to step in as 3rd/4th liners. Perform in place of JJ/Krebs/Quinn, and those three move up. Quinn clearly has already. Krebs as well. With what they paid for Greenway, have to expect him in the middle 6 as well.
I think there is some urgency to make a good deal. It needs to happen before the 25 season starts. Sounds like a long time, but it's 2 real chances and timing is everything. Frankly, the D demands an upgrade immediately.
Trading high on Mitts and/or VO was their dream scenario coming into this season.

Yeah I think there’s 10x as much urgency to win games next year.
If there’s a deal there for a D, and you can add a good forward, by all means that’s fine.
There’s 0 need to trade him just for the sake of trading him. |

That's why the timing is great. In a good position to move him, but you don't have to. The following summer, if you wait, you're overflowing with F's and have to do something.

We should be exiting the world of only worrying about asset management and contracts and entering the world of only worrying about winning.
Teams that win lose guys to UFA every year
It won’t be the difference in winning a championship if Mitts walks for nothing someday down the line.
What will be the difference in winning will be if the GM is only worried about constantly shuffling guys in and out of the lineup because his draft picks are always the next best thing |

Couple GM's thought they could get one over on Adams, that was not going happen. |

With the way certain players have developed, IMO some decisions have to be adjusted. The timeline as you would say has moved up a bit. |

You're trying to move the ball. You should never walk a significant player to UFA.

I'd say Adams has proved he's not a dope.
This in regards to using Savoie et al. in a trade?

Of course, in a perfect world you don’t.
Sabres are not in a position this offseason to lose a T9 forward because they want to “sell high”
They don’t know what the timelines are on Kulich, Rosen, Savoie yet. Ostlund is far, far away |

It's hard to project the long term outlook on casey and players like him.
personally i'd say best asset management is get rid of him before he walks if he's not in the plans. (obviously)
but that's a simple way to look at it. there's a lot of variables to review before making such a move. |

Mitts is now a significant player. More news to come in the 9 o'clock hour. |

True, but doesn't mean a Young Sabres team should let another asset walk into FA |
