Of course, in a perfect world you don’t.
Sabres are not in a position this offseason to lose a T9 forward because they want to “sell high”
They don’t know what the timelines are on Kulich, Rosen, Savoie yet. Ostlund is far, far away - sbroads24
Ostlund looks very good to me. |

It's hard to project the long term outlook on casey and players like him.
personally i'd say best asset management is get rid of him before he walks if he's not in the plans. (obviously)
but that's a simple way to look at it. there's a lot of variables to review before making such a move. - TheSabresTaco
In a perfect world Mittelstadt gets you a young 3/4 D man in return straight up that also needs a new contract
Unfortunately that’s not a guarantee |

Are they a budget team or will no expense be spared with Stanley cups being the real objective? I'm confused. - TheHank
Over the summer I would've said the latter, after the TDL, I'm not so sure. The reticence to retain cap and pick up extra picks has me worried, that's certainly not "just dig another well" type of stuff. |

Yes he does, if he can fill out a bit more. He could be the best of the 3 in 3yrs |

Just not with on much of anything today I guess.

I don’t see VO and Mitts being comparable in this sense.
They’ve given Mitts every opportunity and he’s ran with it since December. When they have injuries he’s moved up and down the lineup, they use him as the extra F at times when needing a goal, and he’s played both PK/PP at times.
There is absolutely 0 rush to make a move on him unless Adams truly never wants to win and just wants every year to be a developmental season.
Because Kulich or Rosen aren’t stepping in and giving you that production next year - sbroads24
Heard the same thing about Quinn all offseason and he’s a legitimate top 6 forward already.
They hedged Peterka not being ready by signing Vinny.
If Olofsson lived up to his contract we’d be fine as Peterka could have slid into a line 3 role but it is what it is. |

That’s debatable but he’s playing mostly well.
Quinn has also been benched multiple times this year.
Again, when will winning be top priority if it’s not next year then? |

He is. He's in Sweden for two more years and Rochester for potentially another one.

Is he though?
He is developing and taking the next steps to get there but let's not act like he is lighting the world on fire.
He has 29 points right now.
He is starting to look the part but lets not act like he hasn't struggled this season.

How many goals should a guy with a $4.75 million contract score in a season to live up to the contract?
Contracts are based on the whole season, not just part of the year.
You cant act like they signed olo for any other reason and he's not holding up there.
He has way more 5 x 5 goals then anyone expected.

id pose that it already is. it just comes with, if we're going to win, it's going to be with this young group.
I know the argument of 'winning' or 'development' is going to exist for a while and you can make a case on either.
either way, i dont see a better way to handle this franchise than how they're doing it now.
improvements in personnel are required as complimentary pieces. |

Quinn has had good underlyings the whole season and the points are finally reflecting it now that he’s been put in a position to succeed.
He didn’t get points earlier in the year due to puck luck and being in the bottom 6 for the most part.
He’s already a legitimate top 6 forward. The two best rookies in the league this year play for the Buffalo Sabres.

It’s great that he’s scored a few goals this year, he’s also killing us defensively and is the sole culprit for many more goals against us.

Olofsson is massive negative value when the puck is not going in the net.
he's not a playmaker, he can't defend, he can't forcheck, he can't kill penalties, he can't win puck battles and he does weird swirlie poop when he's trying to get the puck back. |

Can only retain cap on retired goaltenders apparently. |

We already writing off Rossi when the guy lost a year of development when he nearly died?
I’d wait a few more years before this becomes a thing.
Just like all the Sabres fans with egg on their face saying we lost the ROR trade

With his new contract, the expectation was to improve on his 49 points (.68 per game) last season.
