So management can’t focus on a present and long-term solution all in one because if they can’t, they should be fired immediately. - ImThatGuy
Hypithetically speaking, let’s say the Sabres paid the price the Devils did and acquired Meier.
A) No guarantee they make the playoffs this year even with Meier.
B) no guarantee he wants to sign an extension.
C) he’s then staring at a $10M QO that takes him to free agency.
Then what ?
Do you left him walk ? Trade him again at the deadline next year in the middle of your playoff run?
I’d rather the 15th pick in the 2023 draft then a late 2024 first |
|

I'm pretty sure they the Sabres brass had them at a fake. 500 team this season. Maybe 82-86 points
Your fandom had them at +12 chasing a playoff spot ☝️
At 92+ points.
Reality should be setting in soon pal. - Boss34
They were at a 94 point pace. That was reality.

Let's give KA a pass for his first year. Should it really take 2 more full evaluation years to come to some of these conclusions? Are they just slow at evaluating, or bad at doing anything about it?
Coming out of this season learning Power needs a better partner is pretty gross. Should have been working on that from the second they drafted him. - Lunaion
Shouldn't the youngest team in the league get a little more time with evaluating their players?
What's this 2 year thing? Is this written down somewhere?
Power played a handful of games last season, every sabres defenseman should get a look without going out of the building. Now they looked.
Samuelsson seemed like a natural fit.
Boosh maybe too?
If they play this hand again next season, I'm not going to defend them. |

It didnt really come together.
The lack of a true goalie was very obvious if you put aside the blinders.
4 true rookies in quinn, peterka, power and upl
A good first line
Cozens had a break thru year.
Jost from waivers
You hate mitts, olo and girgensons
Krebs was good
Okposo is old
You know all of this. 1 trade deadline wasnt gonna improve thewe weaknesses IMO
Or age this team into a playoff spot - Boss34
So Skinner Tage Tuch Cozens Dahlin having career years isn't coming together. A rookie Dman playing very well. Goalie has been a issue since Adams got here. One trade could have helped 1 of those weaknesses, which in turn could have helped the Team. |

So you thought they had zero chance for the playoffs when the Sabres signed ben bishop.
They played good enough hockey to be at a 94 point pace with the youngest team in the league.
Young teams aren't used to the full NHL grind
The other teams in our conference added big vets
You didn't see this coming.... some regression late in the year? 🤔
You had faith in KA 👍 |

Yep , 5 guys had good years.
Teams need 15 good players to make the playoffs.
5 + meier and chychrun = 7.
15- 7 = 8 more good players needed.
5 or 6 we have , but aren't ready for us to succeed. (Yet)
Quinn
Krebs
Peterka
Power
Upl

It's just too soon, I'm done trying to convince you that the youngest team in the league has a bright future.
*rookie dman playing really well.
You know this isnt true. He's played well for a rookie, but has made a ton of mistakes.... |

Sure doesn't help playing with Joker. You don't have to convince me of anything. They have a good foundation and looks to be some really good young players. Doesn't mean you don't try and help them on the way. |

Without really really backreading... more backglancing, I think Boss is missing the picture that sacrificing this year on the altar of "development" or "not being the Bruins/Canes doormat".........
Well I had a point but it's my burthday and my wife brought home a bottle of proseco and a carrot cake with her from work. I just smoked 3 joints and drank the bottle (and I dont drink anymore) and I don't quite remember my point.
I'll say this though, 43 is just like 42. Forget all the lies they've told you. And, the Sabres made me get this inebriated. F you, WAGs. VD all over that locker room.
What if we root for a team of swingers? |

Having Joker and Boosh as your 3rd pairing would certainly help a lot.
Adding good players move other players down the lineup which especially on the blue line should put them in better positions to help the team or hurt them less.

Not critical of single thing KA has done in 3 seasons?
You like to make a big point of youngest team in the league, which they no longer are. They didn't need to be, they chose to be. Chose to keep evaluating Joker, Bryson, and Fitz. That's what last year was for. Wanted UPL in Roch, but put themselves in this terrible position where they needed him..
The next 2 above them in age? NJ and Ottawa.

If the Sabres go into next year with the same D core they will basically be spending 21mill on there D. They can afford a upgrade in there Top 4 |

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Panthers acquired the No. 1 overall pick from the Bears in exchange for D.J. Moore, the No. 9 overall pick, a 2023 second-round pick, a 2024 first-round pick, and a 2025 second-round pick. |

Yes , you are not help them along the way , by trading for players that would be taking their playing minutes.
Good players who fit our salary structure, yes absolutely.
This is such a tired arguement.

It takes a bit longer with small market teams and a very money conscience budget.
We traded our franchise captain mid season last year.
We made some very significant trades with sam and risto as well. You just cant jump that quickly IMO.
I think its fair to give the Sabres this season for growth and not making splash in season trades.
It's ok to disagree on the expected time line for a young team. 🤝 |

Who in the Top 4 am I taking minutes away from ? Joker. So what he should be playing 3rd pair minutes anyway. |

Samuelsson-Joker would be a respectable 3rd pair. Now, way too expensive. If you keep playing Joker in the top 4, you either have to move him or be prepared to pay him like he belongs there.
Everyone on D has a year left on their deals, except RFA Clague. Every move screams that they want to bring this group back.

Meier would have blocked Quinn perhaps?
Gotta a better idea already on Quinn for next year.
Since the trade deadline ironically.
Gotta a look at greenway on the top line.
You see what I'm saying....
And , I see what you're saying in regards to chryrun and joker.
Chryrun would require star minutes. I cant see how that wouldnt hold back power over the next 3 years....
Theres only so many pucks to go around |
