I think Torts at least makes it through next year. This team has at least competed this year with having basically zero talent on the roster. - mickel25 Are they really competitive? They are badly outplayed way more times than not.

Any hiring of a guy Tulsky has to include a complete buy in across the board. Which means a lot of other things have to change also. Many others would need to be removed also. Including the coach eventually. Tulsky and Tortorella would be like water and oil. - MJL
Maybe the new gm comes in and changes coaches . I’m fine with that. |

Don't know. If the right outsiders are brought in and given complete autonomy, then he shouldn't be safe. |

"If" Barber is one of the guys retiriring like SanFIllipo is reporting. Does that change your opinion? He has not given out names as of yet- the retirees. - Trox88
If a guy like Barber "retires" That's just a save face move instead of a firing. |

Yup. Briere or whoever is running things will have their hands tied up pretty well. Thanks Fletch! - hereticpride
Ristolainen is Briere’s Pronger Contract. It was one of the better aspects of the Hextall tenure…getting out from all those bloated contracts. |

Yeah Torts would NOT be willing to adjust his strategy based on personnel or what the GM wants.
Like the Canes being so aggressive leaves them open to odd man rushes against if they turn the puck over in transition so to counter that they just... don't transition. They just dump it to the neutral zone and go get it. It wasn't Brind'amour who came up with that plan. |

Of course it is. The outcome is still the desired outcome. I'm looking forward to see the "retired" list. I hope it is very long.

I doubt the plan is to have Briere be the interim GM leading the offseason moves and drafting.
My biggest question is what is the next step. One would think hiring a president of hockey ops is next. So who is making that decision and who is influencing DS in deciding who to hire.
If it’s any of the old heads then I’ll pass and expect more of the same.
If it’s Torts I have major reservations.
Until I have a reason not to I will support Briere. |

We'll never know what might have happened but one trade made a long time ago has completely changed the paths of two franchises. I watch how the Canes play and their design, which is so smart and well planned and I just have a ton of envy. A lot of it is certainly talent but under the Flyers current coach, even with an upgrade in talent it wouldn't be at that level. |

Agreed that is where the lack of talent hurts them. Not a lack of effort. My point is I think he at least gets until they have some talent on the roster before he is fired. |

Bill reports that they’ll separate the roles of gm and president which is good imo. |

That they gave Fletcher the full ball of wax and both titles from the get go is an indictment on the competency of this organization.

I want someone from outside the org with proven track record in both roles. Easier said than done but that should be the plan. Then start cleaning up this mess. If we end up with a top five pick this summer then are able to get rid of some dead weight somehow we’ll be golden.

Looking at the bench shots last night the plyers didn't seem to engaged with anything he was saying.
Whatever talent they acquire through the draft or young prospects probably wont bear real fruit within the next 3 years,

Glorious day. I finally have hope once again don’t like seeing anyone lose their job tbh but a change had to be made. It’s a results based business. The jvr debacle was likely the final straw |

I agree it will take time for this team to be good. Just not sure why that requires Torts to be fired in the near future. I only watched the second period last night but I did not see a team that was not trying. I saw a team that was not as talented as the other.
For the record, I am fine with Torts staying or going. He is very low on my list of actual issues with this team. |

Comcast should back the truck up to someone with that track record. This is the one area where money actually can buy you results and instead they listen to dinosaurs who recommend their buddies. |
