Agreed that is where the lack of talent hurts them. Not a lack of effort. My point is I think he at least gets until they have some talent on the roster before he is fired. - mickel25
The Flyers issue was never a lack of effort. Although they've been trying to market effort as a product. Smart and informed fans will never buy that but that's not what the majority of Flyers fans are. Tortorella is basically just a high paid interim coach who has dummied down their style of play to try an compete. It's all he knows. It's not working and it won't work, even if they get more talent. Keeping in mind that my definition of working is becoming a true top team in the league. Not just a playoff team that can compete. |

Bill reports that they’ll separate the roles of gm and president which is good imo. - Hextall271
It is very good. It has to be an outsider. No one from the "circle of trust" can be the hire. |

"Danny Brière, who is holding the Flyers' interim GM role, will be considered for the full-time role as well as the president of hockey ops job. Not a surprise, as the organization has been investing in him for a while now."
This is a total surprise. |

I agree it will take time for this team to be good. Just not sure why that requires Torts to be fired in the near future. I only watched the second period last night but I did not see a team that was not trying. I saw a team that was not as talented as the other.
For the record, I am fine with Torts staying or going. He is very low on my list of actual issues with this team. - mickel25
He plays an outdated style of hockey. The game has 100% passed him by. |

Comcast should back the truck up to someone with that track record. This is the one area where money actually can buy you results and instead they listen to dinosaurs who recommend their buddies. - hereticpride
Completely agree. There’s no salary cap for this. Say to a talented agm with a proven track record. Write your own check and fix this. Time for Comcast to put some money in the right spot. |

In past years this team quit many times during the games. Packed it in more times than one can count. Effort was an issue.

Because the Flyers didn't do what the Blackhawks did this year, they need to do it next year. Even with throwing out the garbage, this team needs to get worse before it get's better if the goal is the Stanley Cup.

Unless it's Vancouver and the owner hires the coach before you get hired and then won't let you bring in your own guy |

Mathieu Darche is director of hockey ops for tampa. Ive heard his name mentioned before. I wonder if he’d be a good candidate? |

Vancouvers handling of that process was bonkers. It was on par with gallant being thrown from a moving bus for Florida. |

Well. If they do get the team moving in the right direction talent wise, they’ll need to execute a different game plan. |

The twitter deal will go down as one of the worst purchases in history. Sure let him run this franchise. What could go wrong? - hereticpride
You're grasping a straws now. Don't make a fools argument, HP, just because you hate the guy that bought Twitter and took away a major censorship tool of the left. End the discussion now. It's not relevant here. Besides, I never said he should be Prez of Flyers. |

It makes the most sense to get the talent and then see what happens with Torts and the systems. Torts has been very good for the goalies’ development, it has been far more predictable in front with less of the impossible saves. Younger players are improving. Torts has said multiple times that he would not be here to see it through.
Firing Fletcher is the first move in a change of direction…now we find out if it goes anywhere. Will they get the high end talent? Build a complete team that can contend? The coach isn’t the issue for me right now. Let’s see what gives next in the front office.

They probably will not do it because it's not the nature of the incompetent people within Comcast that run the Flyers. Fletcher was just a symptom of Comcast incompetence. Until that's changed, it's highly unlikely that a reorg of the deck chairs on the Titanic will result in saving the ship. |

To me you clean house. Coaching staffs at both levels. Torts isn't the future. Whenever he is fired, I would think a new coach will have a much different style of play he would want to employ. So start fresh.

Him or Stacey Roest would be good candidates IMO. I heard Tulsky's name thrown around on this forum today. I just want to point out Tulsky holds a B.A. in chemistry and physics from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in chemistry from UC-Berkeley. Haven't we had enough of a Harvard graduate running this franchise. The Flyers don't need a metric geek, they need a real hockey person in charge. |
